Underrated SNES Games

Thread Starter
I recently acquired a SNES and would like to know some underrated gems I should check out. I'm pretty familiar with most of the well known ones (Super Mario World, Super Metroid, etc.) and was wondering what you guys would suggest.

Zombies Ate My Neighbors: Yay or Nay?
It's OK.

Axelay
Vegas Stakes
Shadowrun
Seconding Shadowrun. If you like non-traditional RPG's like Shadowrun, also check out E.V.O.: Search for Eden. It's sort of like an SNES Spore.

I always loved Tetris Attack, but I think that's pretty well known.

Zombies Ate My Neighbors! has a great sense of humor and it's very playable, but runs out of steam way before you ever reach the end.

Super Ghosts and Goblins is hard as SHIT but also very fun.
Zombies Ate My Neighbors is a huge yes.

Chrono Trigger, duh.

Secret of Mana. Multiplayer classic Squaresoft RPG. It was amazing.

Actraiser.
ActRaiser. Sparkster. Uniracers.

Thank me by naming your first born after me.

Also, I'm well aware the real Turbo-CD version stomps a mudhole in it, but the SNES version of Dracula X is worth a look.

Thread says UNDERrated, not ALL TIME CLASSICS. No sweat, though, I submit to you:

Metal Warriors!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CZTJ1guQwMo

If you can find it, it's flippin sweet.

EDIT: Uniracers is that shiznits! Original Tony Hawk playstyle, except with crazy Unicycle action. The end boss is rough.

I want Earthbound but the cheapest I can find it is $80.
Secret Of Evermore was great. Basically a time travel version of Secret Of Mana.

Metal Marines was a pretty decent turn based strategy game.
Blizzard actually had a decent run on that system, with Rock & Roll Racing being the standout, also, I remember hurling far more hours than any human being probably should have at UN Squadron, Gradius III and Ogre Battle.
Shit, I forgot Blizzard made SNES games. Blackthorne was one of theirs, wasn't it?
Alien3 anyone?

A lot of people let Secret of Mana fall under the shadow of all the other Squaresoft games. It needs to be brought up. And Uniracers is AMAZING. I remember playing it for like 48 hours straight after getting it that Christmas.

As did I . . .

Aladdin is a really good platformer, no lie!
I was going to recommend Unirally, but I did a little research and discovered that in America it's called Uniracers, so Justin beat me to it.
Some of the old Micro Machines games are a blast in multiplayer.
Actraiser, Actraiser, Actraiser.
EVO: The Search for Eden. The only platformer game that's based (kinda) on Darwin's theory of evolution. You start the game out as a fish and then evolve into a lizard and eventually a human to fight the last boss. Pretty trippy game.
Uniracers yes. A million times yes. And I'll stand by Skuljagger being an underrated classic, but it might not be worth it unless you can get a copy with the complete 80-plus page instruction manual with the cartridge.

Zombies Ate My Neighbors is a great choice, too. And if you can find it for three bucks, Bill Laimbeer's Combat Basketball is fun. Easy and rote, but fun.
I think it's generally held in high esteem, but Super Bomberman 2 is up there with Goldeneye and Halo in generating hours of multiplayer fun.
I like Assault Suits Valken, sometimes known as Cybernator.

UN Squadron aka Area 88 was a solid shooter from Capcom.

The SNES version of Super Bomberman was excellent.

Again, these aren't really underrated but they were less well known.
Someone who's played it within the last ten years care to chime in to tell me if Demon's Crest has aged well or not?
Uniracers gets old kind of quickly, but my friends and I can play Kirby's Dream Course for hours. It's a multi-player golf-type game.
Illusion of Gaia
-"SkyBlazer", an obscure action game based on Hindu myths...fuckin loved it back in the day.
-"X-Men: Mutant Apocalypse" was god damn awesome, specially if you liked the comic book.
-"Hagane", the best damn ninja game on the snes if you dont count Ninja Gaiden Trilogy.

God dammit, I think I wept a little when i saw UN Squadron in there...that game was pure joy.

Its still one of the SNES best games, except for how difficult it can get, specially if you're shooting for the best ending.

Justin, the snes version of "Dracula X" was as good as we could get back in the day...until that glorious "Dracula X Chronicles" was released for the PSP.

I sold my Earthbound set just last year. Original mint condition box, player's guide, cartridge and everything. Got exactly that amount for it. The guy I sold it to in a video game pawn shop seemed pretty surprised that I had it in such good condition. I also sold Final Fantasy 3, no box or anything, for nearly the same amount.

All good choices. I would add Contra 3: The Alien Wars. Still holds up after downloading it on the virtual console recently.

Yeah, and Lost Vikings.

I love that game. It was called , for some stupid reason, Probotector in Aus. The soldiers were replaced with robots. Finishing it on the hardest difficulty was a special day for me.
Lost Vikings is great. Like Lemmings without all the ugly.
Difficult to find (and it's Japanese), but Magical Pop'n is one of the best platformers on the system after the Marios.
I gather it was never released in the US so finding a physical copy may well be impossible for you guys, but Terranigma is probably the best Jap-style RPG I ever played.

A friend back in high school managed to snatch a copy from a trip to europe (along with a pal snes)...it was all so worth it, damn it.

Aerobiz
Nobunaga's Ambition

Both strategy games. One is about owning airports and opening flightpaths. Exciting stuff!
Not so much underrated, as just plain awesome, but the Star Wars trilogy of SNES games is worth picking up.

Also Secret of Evermore
Illusion of Gaia
Super Mario RPG
Uniracers

I actually just won Empire Strikes Back on Ebay.

What's amazing is the Star Wars SNES games almost mirror the movies in quality. The first is good, the second is even better, but ROTJ is more of a dip than the film... you go in expecting a crowning achievement, and instead it's like something they did at the last minute.

It's sitting in my SNES upstairs as I type. It's a little clunky, but still great.

And yeah, I second the recommendations of Blackthorne and The Lost Vikings. Great games by Blizzard before they became BLIZZARD!!!
I remember playing "Out of This World" and loving the visuals, I'm not exactly sure how I remember how the game played overall except that it was very hard.

Edited to include "Flashback" instead.
After searching for videos on YouTube for "OOTW", I actually meant "Flashback." I remember "OOTW" as the cool visual game but kind of boring, while "Flachback" was both visually stunning and fun to play.
Kind of like the original Prince of Persia as I recall. like if you wanted to do a running jump you'd have to hit the button prematurely compared to other games.

Flashback was cool too.
