The Year-End Game Glut

Thread Starter
I'm going to try to list all of the stuff that seems even just rental worthy. I'm really only aware of 360/PS3/Wii stuff, so PC and portable gamers, please add to the list. From now until January first (with more than a few of these slipping into 2010, I'd wager), we have:

Batman: Arkham Asylum
Champions Online
Madden 10
Guitar Hero 5
Dirt 2
The Beatles: Rock Band
Need For Speed: Shift
Aion
Halo 3: ODST
Uncharted 2
Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2
Kane & Lynch 2
Mini Ninjas
Blur
Alpha Protocol
Brutal Legend
Modern Warfare 2
Borderlands
Dragon Age: Origins
Forza Motorsport 3
DJ Hero
Tekken 6
GTA IV: Ballad of Gay Tony
Red Steel 2
Left 4 Dead 2
Assassin's Creed 2
New Super Mario Bros. Wii
Battlefield: Bad Company 2
Army of Two: 40th Day
Max Payne 3

Christ. And I KNOW I'm missing stuff. I guess January-June of next year will be a wasteland spent catching up on all of this stuff.

But Modern Warfare 2 is probably all I'll end up playing, no matter how many of these I pick up.

Dark Void have a release date yet? I loved Crimson Skies, and this is by the same group, right? I need that one... otherwise, it's Brutal Legend and Borderlands for my for sures... I'm sure I'll get Halo and Modern Warefare 2, though.

*eyes roll back in head, voice changes to a deeper, more booming tone*
Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box!

Sorry, folks, don't know what came over me.
Modern Warfare 2 and Brutal Legend are the ones I'm planning on buying outright. Everything else is 'wait and see'.
*rages out ala the Incredible Jake*

Scribblenauts!

Man, seeing them all done up in a list is very worrying for my wallet. Want to buy Borderlands, MW2, Uncharted 2 and L4D 2 for sure, and at the very least want to rent Batman, Brutal Legend, Halo, Ultimate Alliance 2, Alpha Protocol and AC2.

No clue where I will find the time or money for these lofty plans.
EDIT: Great minds, Trejo.

Assassin's Creed, Modern Warfare, Beatles Rock Band, and Brutal Legend are locked purchases for me. All else is dust and air till I see some reviews.
Augh, fuck. Fucking Scribblefuckingnauts. Between the 360 and the DS, I'm going to be offering handjobs outside EBGames to pay for the rest of the games after I drive myself into abject poverty from buying all of the main titles.
Left 4 Dead 2, Modern Warfare 2, Dragon Age: Origins, and Halo: ODST will burn $200 dollars of mine, I'll wait to see how the others are critically recieved.
I just read the new Splinter Cell and Red Steel 2 have been delayed*, so there's a tiny bit more breathing room. Not much though.

Bring on Modern Warfare 2 ASAP.

*edit- Whoops, someone started a thread about it here as well.
It's looking like I'm going to end up getting Mafia 2, Borderlands, Dragon Age, Left 4 Dead 2, Ballad of Gay Tony, probably ODST and possibly Alpha Protocol. Assassin's Creed 2 and Batman are already on the rental list. Going to hold out on Brutal Legend, because whilst I love Schaffer, I can't stand Heavy Metal or Jack Black
post #11 of 22
I thought the AvP game was due out this fall, but apparently that got bumped to early next year. Just as well, since Modern Warfare and Uncharted alone will take me until next frickin' August to play.

Oh, and thanks a bunch for reminding me about Dark Void, Boomstick. Looks like that's slated for September 22.

Shit.
I'll definitely be buying Scribblenauts, Brutal Legend, Assassin's Creed 2, and probably Modern Warfare 2. I'd also like to play Batman Arkham Asylum, Dark Void, Dragon Age, and Bad Company 2, but I don't think I'll rush out to buy those unless the buzz is really good.
My brain feels like its going to hemorrhage from anticipation of Arkham Asylum, L4D2, and MW2. I want to be really excited about Assassin's Creed 2, but I'm gonna have to see more info/footage before I trust it'll be good, after the way the 1st game shit the bed at the climax...
I'd be more excited about Ballad of Gay Tony if Lost and Damned wasn't still sitting lonesome, unbeaten, and neglected on my hard drive as we speak.
MW2, Dragon Age (truly, this is the age of dragons) and Borderlands are my must buys. Brutal Legend I'm getting a sweet ass deal on so there's that. Uncharted 2, Ratchet 2, RB:Beatles will get picked up in the Toys R Us Buy 2 Get 1 free sale.

And that's it. Everything else (assassin's creed 2, army of two 2, max payne 3, batman and alpha) are rentals unless they turn out to be both shockingly awesome and surprisingly longer than 6 1/2 hours.

Halo can fuck off, I'm done with that. Maro Wii I care about if single player is there. L4D2 I'm sure will be great and still be just as great in 6 months when Steam has it for 25 bucks. Maybe it'll be a complete game by then, too. And Gay Tony is 20 dollar DLC. So I don't count that. Because it's already totally bought.

I'm just glad this list made me realize that Mass Effect 2 doesn't come out sometime until 2010. That's $60 I can blow on something else.

The must-buy titles for me are probably Uncharted 2 and Army of Two: The 40th Day. MW2 will be a must-buy if it's got good co-op and Borderlands is looking likely right now (also for co-op) but if it gets bad reviews I'd avoid it.

Left 4 Dead 2 will be great I'm sure but I'll probably wait until after Christmas to pick it up for $40 or less. A number of the other games probably depend more on what kind of reviews they get. I want to like Brutal Legend but am not currently that into it, Forza 3 looks like it could be quite good and I'm sick of waiting for the next Gran Turismo, and Max Payne 3 could be the game that sneak ends up being bought.
The only must buy for me on...Eyeball Kid's list was...Madden 2010.

My must buys for the Xbox 360 are...G.I. Joe Rise Of Cobra, Raiden IV, and Star Wars The Clone Wars Republic Heroes.

Must buys for the PS2 are...TMNT Smash Up and Marvel Superhero Squad (the trailer at SDCC, that I saw online was...awesome!)

Alpha looks pretty awesome. I'm still unconvined about the new bats game, but lets see. What about Last Gaurdian, Splinter Cell, and Alan Wake, those games look superb. And aren't there two God of War clones coming out this year, Niar and Dantes Inferno, I'm a sucker for those kinda games.
Alpha Protocol (priority number one)
Borderlands
Dragon Age: Origins
GTA4: The Ballad of Gay Tony
Left 4 Dead 2
Assassin's Creed 2 (this one is a 2010 release)
Red Dead Redemption (Next year)
Mafia 2 (2010 ;_; )
AvP (whenever that is released)
Alan Wake

Well, I think I can survive on unemployment for a few more months, I guess. Course, how do I pay for these games? Fucking a. I either have time or money, but never both. This sucks. I want Modern Warfare 2 yesterday.

Whilst you raise a good point. AvP delayed?! ARGH!
That's a lot of games. I'm interested in more games than I thought. Uncharted 2 and Modern Warfare 2 are the only titles that I know for sure that I'll buy, but I am interested in Borderlands, The Beatles, Batman, Tekken 6, Alpha Protocol, Assassin's Creed 2, Brutal Legend, Bad Company 2, and Ratchet and Clank. I'll probably rent most of them if not buy a few.

Would have been nice to play some of these games now, while not much is being released.
