Draft

So people want sex lies videotape to Talented Mr Ripley or the 60s up until Easy Rider?
I vote for the 60s.
Either one works for me. I'd have a much deeper bench for the 90's, but could probably float adequately in the Swingin' Sixties as well.
I'll side with the 1960s. Just to make people squirm.
The 1960s gets my vote.
To buck the trend, I vote 90's, simply because I'm far more knowledgeable if I go with a theme.
I could go either way but I obviously know a lot more 90's films,
post #8 of 162
I am too busy to play this summer so I vote 60's, so that I can do the 90's next time.
The 90's, all the way.
60s. Challenge me.
I vote for the 60s, because I want people to work for it.
I'm up for the 60s. I've got some good sleepers there.
60's.
60's
I am for the nineties all the way. Though I´d definitely wager to take a shot at the sixties as well.
But first choice would be nineties.
I say 90s.

And it's about time we had another draft.
I'd say 90s, cos I think that would be more fun, but 60s would definitely be more of a challenge and more of an eduucation.

Still, right now I say 90s.
The 60's, man!
I vote '90's for what it's worth.
whatever it is, i'm in
I'd vote 90's only because I think there would be more argument, but either way I'd be happy.
Dig deep, fellas. I bet there are more films from the 60's that you're passionate about than you realize. Five substantial picks from that decade, even with the first round grabbing of the cream, should be no trouble at all.

I don't understand why that decade would mean less discussion or debate, especially amongst this lot. No matter what you pick, somebody is going to think it's shit.

To echo others though, I will play regardless of decade.
Any decade after the silent era should be abundant in choices and room for debate. Heck, the 60s is a particularly great era for foreign film even if the Hollywood studio system was failing.
I'm a bit better with the 90's, but the 60's would make me work harder.

60's, but I'm in not matter what it is.
90's!

Thanks Kirby.

I'll mull it over. Probably need to start in a couple weeks. But I'll post which one in a couple days for prepping.

Hey, speaking of lists: does anyone have a Flickchart.com invite they could hook me up with?
Kirby there's a link on their site to request an invite.

I went that route...still waiting.
It took me about 2 weeks to get my official invite email back from them, Kirby.
Then I guess I shouldn't hold my breath considering I just asked for one.

Ah. Thanks for the info.

I'm leaning towards 90's at the moment. Because I'm lazy and a bit busy for the 60's.
yay!
Re: Flickchart

Check the "Your top ten films... EVER" thread. Someone posted a link that allows you to sign up instantly, no waiting for an invite. It worked perfectly for me. The post couldn't be more than 2 weeks old.
*edit- found it.

Re: the Draft

If you guys go 60's, as the vote seems to be leaning towards, it would be a cool idea to maybe start a thread for each of the first(and maybe second and third) round picks when the draft is over. It would certainly populate the boards with more discussion for films that don't get as much talk around here as say, Star Wars, LotR, or lately, Avatar.
Chances are most of the potential 90's picks already have threads around these parts.

I'd be in either way, but a 90s draft would seem to engender some of the same conversations that we've had already.
See, I'd like some time to see some of those films from the 60s that i've been meaning to anyway before a 60s draft. Cos either way i'm gonna have a shitload to watch afterwards anyway.

Not necessarily. Because this is about drafting the "best" or most important movies of the 90s. Not about how they relate to a specific genre. So we would be discussing them on an entirely different level.
True, but a lot of those films have been discussed plenty already, and I don't see anything new being brought to the table simply because one got drafted first and one got drafted tenth.
I vote '60s, and nominate The Apartment for starting title.
Has anyone considered going further back? Perhaps a blanket category that covers movies from the 40's-50's?

A lot of gold to be mined back there...
I'd prefer to go decade by decade. There are more than enough great films if you know where to dig.
I could see conflating the silent era with the 30s, just because so much of the silent era is lost or unavailable. Other than that, I don't think any decade would give a draft much of a problem.
Bump: Any movement on this, Kirby?

There'd be like 3 people contributing, and 22 other people fighting to name the same ten movies.

From the 40s AND 50s? I think you're vastly underestimating this crowd. Heck, the Horror draft should be proof of that. But, you've got Hitchcock's prime, Kurosawa, Ford, Hawks, Fellini, Welles, Wilder, Bergman, Huston, Sturges, the prime of the Western, Italian neo-realism, film noir, 50s sci-fi, Hollywood musicals, Val Lewton, Bogart, Brando, Stewart, Hepburn, etc.
