If you'd attended the graduation ceremonies at L.A.'s own Hamilton High last month, you would have heard Kenya Mejia conclude her valedictory address by revealing her secret passion for one of her classmates, calling out, "I love you, Jake Minor!" As the Journal dryly reported: "The crowd roared. Mr Minor stood and pumped his fist in the air. A few days later, Ms. Mejia cashed a check for $1,800."
Fuck! I wished I'd graduated from L.A. instead of LA.

Coincidentally, $1,800 is how much the actual movie made.

Lame idea, but I can't throw stones. I dared my high school friend to quote Buckaroo Banzai in his valedictory speech, and he foolishly did. Kept me amused through the endless ceremony, and it didn't cost me a dime.

Okay, it's been a couple of days since I read that, and it's killing me now.

I have to know what the Buckaroo Banzai quote was. Was it "character is what you are in the dark?" Or did you have him call the principal "John Bigbooty?"

"Remember, no matter where you go, there you are." [Crickets, except for me snickering]

I professed my love for Shelley Duvall in my speech and I didn't get a single cent.
