Nothing too exciting to my ears. Also, the 3 or 4 pop cues are all pretty laughable. Whatever song they play over the closing credits is awful.

Oh, and there's nothing at the end of the credits, in case you were wondering.

The end credit cue is this shit http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QtGlHPFCH8A or some remix of it.

MoonBaseNick, I really enjoy Alan Silvestri's Score for G.I. Joe. It is gloriously...over the top, just like the film. I find it quite exciting music, and I recommend it for anyone who likes film scores.

Knowing it's BEP makes me sad.

Am I the only one here who hated this movie?

-JGL was 10 years too young to play Cobra Commander. I thought that his voice was dubbed by another actor when he first spoke as the doctor.

- The Sienna Miller face turn made no sense. If the mind-thingy worked so well, how do you explain the fact that she disobeyed Destro's orders when she kissed the Baron?

- Why the fuck did Ripcord save Putin's ass before going after the DC warhead?

What's age-specific about Cobra Commander?

Was she mindwashed to follow Destro's orders? Or Cobra Commander's?

The Russian aimed missile was going to hit its target about 10 minutes before the DC missile.

Just the fact that both cities got saved by a fucking Wayans brother tells you all about this movie you need to know. I've never seen more bullshit spit out in such rapid fire succession as it was in this film but it worked. The movie just didn't give a fuck about anything or anyone around it. I could not stop laughing the entire time but I'll be damned if I didn't have a blast watching it. I will certainly be seeing this again real soon and I'll be taking my eight year old with me.

I thought it was a fantastic summer movie and a nice subtle middle finger to Transformers to boot. At least this movie knew what it was and had the balls to play it with a straight face. It embraced its comic/cartoon roots perfectly and didn't look back. I wish the editing was slightly more restrained (certainly not a proper word for this film but whatever) during some of the action but that's just a minor quibble as everything could be made out with clarity for the most part anyway.

"It's like finding a haystack in a coal mine." Holy Fuck.

The most PURE fun I've had in a theater in a long time.

Whenever I see Arnold Vosloo, I know he will not...hurt my feelings.

It just occurred to me that Duke and the Baroness were more than likely coupled by the screenwriters because their names are Duke and Baroness.

Loved how all the future tech had a consistency. Cobra (or M.A.R.S.) had blue laser shooting guns, hovering jets, and nano-machines, and all of their weapons seemed to revolve around those three aspects. Love how the invisibility and accelerator suits are thrown in for their own respective scenes, but are only apart of the Joe's vast array of weapons.

Best team superhero movie since X-Men 2. Everyone had something to do, even if it was translating Celtic.

For some reason, ending the movie with Zartan still as President felt ballsy to me. The next movie could pick up immediately where this left off.

Only thing the movie needed was the Baroness having a flashback with just her and Rex, because I felt there was barely a connection between the two. Meh, no biggy.

Come on, dude. She made Duke promise Rex wouldn't get hurt. In a war. Because Duke can control that, you see?

Doesn't that tell you all you need to know?

Did anyone get a "Death Star" vibe from that underwater final attack?

Dennis Quaid could have been Admiral Ackbar.

"Somebody stop that Pulse Cannon!"

P.S- Spy Fish! nice idea!

If those are your reasons for hating it, you're watching the wrong movie.

I can't believe it but this thread has convinced me to pay money to see this fucking movie. If you had told me that two months ago I would have laughed in your face.

By in large Breaker got short shrift (No flashback to torturing Mark Wahlberg?). The haystack banter was amusing though.

At least they gave him gum to chew.

Right as you see the school of fish, I tell my friend next to me it would be great if they were robot fish, and they were! I don't see how anyone could not have had a blast watching this.

It was Duke's last piece!

I thought she kissed the Baron so Storm Shadow would kill him, which is why she said afterward that she heard Storm Shadow's threat the first time.

I realize you can't please everyone but I amazed that there are some not finding this enjoyable on CHUD. This is the most fun I have had at an action movie in a long time. Devin's review was pretty dead on. I think what made this work so well was the attention given to the action. This was not a case of action scenes being created in the editing room with fast cuts and all that. You could actually follow what was going on at all times and they actually had good choreography instead of extreme close ups of fists flying and lots of shaky camera movement. In fact I loved this thing so much that I didn't even think Wayans was bad. Some of his jokes tanked and he was heading out into Will Smith territory but I and the audience laughed at some of them.

I'm so glad this had a big opening night and I hope it keeps snowballing. A big dumb summer action movie that gets it right deserves to be rewarded.

I want to give special praise to christopher eccleston. Being a Doctor who fan I know I'm being a bit partial here but I think he played the part pitch perfect and is kind of the glue that holds the film together. Had he not found the right tone for destro I think things would have got messy.

When they were runnig around Paris in those suits-almost felt like an episode of "Greatest American Hero"..
JohnnyZ, I thought the suits made the Joe Team seem like...Iron Men. Surely the suits were technical...MARVELS! YO JOE!

Will the Director be incarcerated in Director Jail? The film may make some dollers, but aparently the studio hates it and the job he did (all teh firing rumors)?

Those rumors were debunked.

Princess Kate, No Jail time for Stephen Sommers if...G.I. Joe Rise Of Cobra is a hit. If Paramount won't make a G.I. Joe sequel, then someone else will, if the new studio agrees to Paramount's terms. The studio which produced Hellboy did not produce the sequel, so anything is possible.

interesting, thanks for the information!

Eyyyyyy ees dat double bubble??

In true Stephen Sommers fashion, this movie never lets up. Ever. The first three action sequences were strong (the convoy, assault on the pit, paris pursuit). The sub-heavy finale was kind of let down, though. My favorite bit during the finale was when Snake annihilates all of the people who were manning that pulse weapon. Then he starts fighting Storm Shadow and a bunch of new grunts just walk in to man the controls. I wish they would have spent more time on the Snake Eyes/Storm Shadow fights. The adult super-ninjas were upstaged by their little kid counterparts. The first clash between li'l Snake and li'l Storm was the strongest fight in the whole movie.

I also thought the villians totally upstaged the Joes. While Tatum is mush mouthing his way through the whole movie, Eccleston, Miller, Volsoo and Levitt are all strong. I especially like Levitt's sudden HAW HAW HAW HAW super villain voice at the end. The actual design of the Destro mask was fine, but the execution stunk. Eccleston's stunning "Whut have yeh done tuh mehhhhh??" delivery was weakened by those cg chicklet teeth.

Can someone tell me what just happened? I was NOT planning to see this film. I despise the Transformers films. I really, really don't like big dumb action films. Wouldn't you know it, I found myself drunk off my ass at a midnight showing with my coworkers... and I fucking loved this movie.

During the opening commercials and trailers, I made some smarmy comments, sent texts to friends laughing over the film I was about to watch.

The first 45 minutes were pretty heavy handed. Lots of nods for old fans. So over the top. I was unimpressed. Then something changed. I don't know what it was, but I realized I was enjoying it! Pretty soon I was cheering along with the crowd. The next day I told all my friends to go see it.

GI Joe surprised me. So much so, I'm going to see it again tonight. Alone. And I'm not sure if I should feel proud or ashamed about this turn of events.

This was noted and heavily discussed by our gang of locals afterwards. Hilarious. Like it was just time for the second shift to take over, or something, and they don't even worry about the guys who were there before lying dead on the floor.

So fun.

EDIT: OH, and if you haven't seen this stop-motion GI JOE video that Paramount and Hasbro made to promote the movie, you'll probably want to check it out.

Wow...y'all are almost convincing me that I need to see this...almost. Would I lose much by Netflixing this (my theater budget has been tight as of late), or does it demand a big-screen viewing?
Easily the most enjoyable blockbuster of the summer, so far (District 9 and Inglorious Basterds might have something to say about that).

A weekend tally of $56-61M seems likely allowing G.I. Joe to join only three other films to open north of $50M in the month of August, the weakest of the four summer months.
Not a huge hit, but it has no competition for the next few weeks

I read a draft of this year. Laughed my arse off. It was dreadful. The finished film was pretty much faithful.

And it kicked a nice amount of ass.

How did that happen? Simple. Execution makes all the difference. Just as Snakes on a Plane would have been agony if played straight faced, and to be clear I dug the hell out of it, this was played gloriously over the top. Rather than going dry and generic, all involved set out to make a true cartoon adaptation. They set out to make us laugh at the insanity of it. And when it was time to throw down, such as in Paris, they threw down wonderfully. Loved the kinetic flow of that sequence. Also, gasp, I could follow the action. Silly? oh yeah. A 10-year-old's wet dream? Oh hell yes. But exactly what I want out of a no brainer
post #137 of 409
Saw it this afternoon in a packed theater. LOVED it. Action from start to finish, and for some reason the ending siege on the base reminded me of the sieges in You Only Live Twice and The Spy Who Loved Me.

One thing that made me laugh was the first shot of Storm Shadow. His white suit and the way his hair was made me think of an Elvis impersonator.

Vosloo, Eccelston, Levitt, and Quaid all looked like they were having fun. I really hope this flick does well and they greenlight a sequel.

This movie just goes to prove that Celtic is a language worth learning.

Just read the "GI JOE Mission Dossier" Book and it said that there are Easter Eggs in the GI JOE Relaxation room scene.

1) A Food Bowl for Snake Eye's wolf Timber can be seen.
2) A Leftover Ski indicate that Snow Job is on a mission somewhere.
I'm disappointed that they show a polar bear, but Radioactive Snake Eyes didn't get to fight it.

The movie's pretty good, but I do sorta wish that there was more character stuff, or just stuff, for the rest of the characters. Most of them are just there and don't get to do much. Cover Girl's role was pretty thankless.

Ah well, at least we get Snake Eyes stabbing a dude in the eye.

Wasn't that Duke?

I thought an underrated moment of cartoon violence was when Heavy Duty blew off that Neo Viper's head with a grenade.
I thought it was Snake Eyes. Pretty sure.
I had a great time with this but all I could think of walking out of it was CGI polar bear.

It was pretty much the perfect adaptation of the property though.
This movie failed to amuse me. The combination of Channing Tatum and Marlon Wayans proved too large a hurdle for me to overcome.

I did like the robot fish, though.
Snake Eyes was the one who stabs him in the eye.
Are we talking about the same moment?
What I remember is Snake Eyes dropping down for the save and Duke stabbing a Viper in the face before running after Baroness.

Not just that, but the Neo Viper was also on fire.

1. I'm glad I'm not the only one who went "Blade!"

2. Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje is British. That's his real accent.

Still better than your fucking face the second time. My parents liked it.

About this eye stabbing, I could have sworn it was the red-head chick using some fancy tech. Am I thinking of the wrong moment?

EDIT: And I just got back. Still pretty good, if brainless.

Duke, Snake Eyes, and Scarlett all have eye stabs. They are all bitchin'.
