Chewer Mixed CD/Playlist Exchange - Summer 2009 Edition

We haven't done one of these since Halloween. Any interest in firing one up for the home stretch of summer? Toss out any theme ideas too.
If this goes international I'm in.

That's why we added playlist sharing last time, so there would be no need to ship anything and international folks could participate a little more easily.
I'm in. Whoever gets a Playlist/CD from me had better love the metal, though.

I thought you might do something to synch up with your guitarist sig.

That sound you here outside your window? That's UPS delivering you a large green box filled with Guinness. That's an AWESOME idea, Richard.
I've never been involved in one of these. It was all about the timing.

Count me in all the way.
I'll play and would suggest that there not be a theme, although maybe a spin-off of the "songs and bands that are owning you right now" idea would be good.

We don't have to have a theme, just tossed that out there in case someone has a killer idea.

EDIT: Not to say whatever mix you put together can't have a theme, we just won't have an overriding one every has to adhere to.
Sounds fun. I am in.
Count me in too. As a music buff I've skipped way too long on this. Will be strictly playlist sharing though, since I'm in Europe.
I'd be happy to participate, though I kind of feel some sort of theme would help with focus, particularly since I'm more likely to be sharing older music than new.
Of course.

Here's what we'll do -- we'll let people keep signing up through the weekend, and then I can do some pairings and have them up Monday.
The theme should be: "The music that you love."

Pretty simple, eh?
I'm in. My playlist will only include local bands (good ones) that you most definitely never heard before.
I'm in, It's been way to long since I exposed myself to new music. and if its music that we love as the theme prepare yourselves for some 80's rock.
Or if we're going for a theme something like 'Soundtrack to an Unseen Movie'
I'm in.

I was kind of leaning towards this as my plan.

___X___ Will participate
_______ Will not participate
I'm in. I'll ship internationally, too; I don't mind sending music across the pond.
I have a couple of "unseen movie" playlists on my computer. That's a good way to go.
Sounds fun. I'm in.

Hmmm. Fair warning: the unseen movie currently running in my head appears to be by Ed Wood.
I'll give this another go.

I'm probably going to sit this out due to time constraints, but I just want to say that Built to Spill's "Velvet Waltz" simply DEMANDS to be set to an amazing, gut-wrenching and/or triumphant sequence some day. Or maybe end credits. I don't know, the several minutes-long denouement/solo of that song just conjures all sorts of abstractly cinematic imagery every time I hear it.

Carry on.
I'll bite, sounds like fun.
Sure.
I'm in. I, too, have no problem shipping internationally. I love the idea of a "homebrew music" theme, but I don't know how easy that'll be for a lot of you.

How's this for an idea? One we swap names, we PM a brief log-line for a non-existent movie to our partner. They have to come up with the soundtrack.

Thoughts?

I think I'd rather let people choose their own theme, if they choose to have one at all.
Richard: are you still going to do the pairings today?
If it isn't too late I'll jump in. I like country music though so just a warning.
This sounds exciting... and something I'd want to be a part of.

Yes, consider Dan Baker and Lima Oscar Lima the final two entrants. Pairings to come shortly.
Fuck. Too late to come in? Haven't done one in a while.
SWEET!

Thanks, Richard!

If you can, let Martin in here. He got me into The Tea Party, so I owe him some backup.

Yeah, I'll let Martin in, no sweat. BUT WE ARE NOW LOCKED.

EDIT: And I know that gives us an odd number, but I can work with that.

Summer 2009 mixed cd/playlist exchange list and rules

  • Each person will send a mixed CD or playlist to the person to which they have been assigned.
  • PMs should be used to discuss preferred format, mailing addresses, and any other issues.
  • Please do not ask for certain genres or styles to be avoided or included. The idea is to expose ourselves to new things. Getting a bunch of requested songs defeats that purpose.
  • Please keep your mixes to the equivalent of one burned CD. The idea is to put together a good mix, not throw a couple of dozen songs into a playlist.
  • Please have your exchanges made by the end of August.
  • Be sure to come back to this thread and share what you've received and your thoughts on them!

Since we have an odd number of participants, we'll do a circular exchange pattern:

-----------------

whiskey tango foxtrot sends to Patrick Ripoll

Patrick Ripoll sends to Spike Marshall

Spike Marshall sends to Justin Clark

Justin Clark sends to Richard Dickson

Richard Dickson sends to KidNtheHelmet

KidNtheHelmet sends to BadlyDrawnBagel

BadlyDrawnBagel sends to Martin Savage

Martin Savage sends to cheftournel

cheftournel sends to Mr. Mushnik

Mr. Mushnik sends to Lima Oscar Lima

Lima Oscar Lima sends to Judas Booth

Judas Booth sends to TURBO-1984

TURBO-1984 sends to RathBandu

RathBandu sends to Robert K.

Robert K. sends to Fat Dragon

Fat Dragon sends to Ken Savage

Ken Savage sends to bendrix

bendrix sends to Parker

Parker sends to Ray Abed

Ray Abed sends to Dan Baker

Dan Baker sends to Jacob

Jacob sends to Jeb

Jeb sends to whiskey tango foxtrot

-----------------

So you'll be getting in contact with two people, one who is sending to you, and one to whom you are sending.

If anyone has suggestions for good websites or other methods of sharing playlists, feel free to post them here.

And there we go. Have fun, and put together some great mixes!
Thanks. I can dish 2 cds if anything, as I'm the late comer.
Well, Tournel is located in Europe? How much is shipping a Cd to Europe?

Unless I can send him by a FTP site, but the CD is the classiest way to do it.
pm's sent to Turbo and Lima. This should be alot of fun.
Thread Starter
If anyone's curious how I set up the exchanges, I translated everyone's names to numbers by using the number value for each letter and adding them up. Then just sorted highest to lowest.
