For those of you doing CDs, feel free to do all kinds of cool cover art and liner notes. Those have been traditional for these exchanges.

Yes...

you'd think that, wouldn't you?

16 tracks of Engelbert Humperdinck's finest are being copied as we speak!

MUAH HA HA!

P.S. just kidding

P.P.S. or am I?

I'll think of you, Lima...after the loving.

I've had no internet access at work today and I've been away all weekend. Do we just pm our addresses to our partners and go from there?

Pretty much...

Since Judas and Lima are old guys whose videogame highlight was Pong and Pacman, how will you guys be able to copy that music you listen to on your gramophone records into a CD format?

Ancient Chinese Secret, my brother!

Plus I'm a little more hi-tech than that.

I have 8 track tapes!

Oh Judas will love it. Here's another hint: he likes his rock sung by guys who look like chicks.

Since I'm doing playlists, I'll try to do extensive liner notes for my "fake soundtracks" instead. I've got three -- one for a modern film noir, one for my take on the Millennial Generation (gag) version of Dazed & Confused/Adventureland/American Graffiti, and one for a comedy whose high concept is "Juno gets cancer." If anyone would like a copy, please let me know.
My playlist will be for the major hit movie 'What are these strings for?', not appearing in a theater near you.

You did! But I dug it, so as long as you don't mind giving me another one, I don't care. But now you have to up the ante. Sorry! haha
post #66 of 166
Does anyone have any suggestions for sharing a playlist on internet? My first thought would be uploading to yousendit, but they have a 100mb limit which is probably too little to fit everything in.
I don't mind sending a cd overseas if the cost is reasonable (I have no idea on that yet), but still, it'd be cool to sample some of the other mixtapes, esp. if they have some obscure tracks on there.

Please chime in if you haven't heard from either of your partners by the end of the week. It's not uncommon for people to sign on to things like this then vanish, so we'll try to pair up any orphans that may come about.
I got a message from Rath and waiting for a reply from Fat Dragon as I decided to make cd instead of sharing a playlist.
Something to keep in mind about mailing overseas (or anywhere) is that you can buy a 1 gb memory card for virtually nothing these days, and that can be sent in a much smaller envelope than a CD. Just need to confirm form factor/format with your recipient.

So, i'm too late for this, huh?

I had an "unseen movie soundtrack" already done too.

Sucks to be you guys!

Ben, we'll keep you on as an alternate if someone from the original list doesn't make contact or has to back out.
Sweet. Is that still the theme?

Gotcha covered, Ben. I have no problem making two of mine if you want.

Spotify, my man, spotify.

You're my boy, Booth.

The rough playlist I started putting together over the weekend was an amalgamation of the different bands I've gotten into from the different places I've lived in the last five years or so. Not quite the soundtrack to an unseen movie, yet anyways I may play with it still cause I had plenty of room on the CD when I stopped.
My theme is "good music that goes well together"

That looks promising, but unavailable in this part of the world except if I take a premium membership- which still keeps me better off sending a cd or memory stick (which is a good idea, thanks!).

I'm going with songs that I associate with moments in my life, so basically it's Ken Savage the soundtrack.

The play list is coming along nicely but I can't decide on the length. I thought 32 songs (as that's my age) but wondered if that was too long?
For two years I've been trying to write a screenplay for an idea that I really like. I'm not sure I will ever finish it, but I just put together a CD with bands (most of them are my friends) that could actually work as an OST for it.

A reminder, if you have not contacted either of your partners, please do so by end of day tomorrow. We'll regroup on Monday and see who hasn't surfaced and make any necessary adjustments.

I understand people using playlists (as opposed to actual CDs) to alleviate shipping costs, but part of the challenge of putting together a cohesive mix CD is being bound by a time limit. You know you have 70 or so minutes. Playlists have no finite end.

Yeah. I'd go CD, but Tournel is in Belgium, so I'll ship him a CD's worth of Mp3, in the right order and all, with a cover.

That's why I mentioned in the rules post that any playlist should be kept to a length that would fit on a CD.

I still need addresses from Turbo and Ben Thomas. Ideally, I'd like to get my CDs in the mail before I leave on vacation next week.

PMs have been sent...this is just a reminder to them.

Sent a pm to MrMushnik with an address correction, but have not heard back.

Have not gotten an address from Judas, either.

My error, I thought that I sent it to you. I'll correct that now.

I'm not a rules-reading kind of guy. Obviously.

Edited to add:
Also, I've been in touch with cheftournel, too, since we're keeping track for potential deadbeats.

I'm having a blast working on Dan's mix tape. I hope he gets just as much enjoyment out of it has I had putting it together. I've got 14 tracks right now...been editing on and off over the last couple of days, rethinking and critically analyzing every song to make sure they're worthy of inclusion.

I sorta do have a theme: summer melody. I want Dan to get the feeling of sitting on the beach, looking at the clear-blue sky, singing along to tunes basking in audacious, feel-good melodies and sturdy percussion.

While I'm a fan of album art as a music fan, I'm not the greatest artiste. So Dan, I hope you don't mind if you get just a CD and a tracklisting. I'd rather give you no album art than something that's shoddily done.
While part of me wants to include some thoughtful liner notes as to how and why I chose a particular piece of music, I feel it is more exciting to use the same approach to Judas' mix CD, as my father used on me when he taught me to swim...

Throw him in, and hope he floats.

Judas, you have no conception of what you are in for...

but in a good way.
It's going to be interesting to see who has the biggest collection of 80's rock bands, Judas....or...me.....

(sorry i fleeded for a minute there.)

We've done double and multiple discs before. How is a longer playlist any different? That's a dumb-ass rule, especially since a lot of us grew up working with the 110 minute format of tape.

Sounds good to me.

I feel bad for Jacob because my county fair is coming up next week and I pretty much only listen to country around fair time. I hope he is prepared to handle some backwoods hillbilly music.

And you can burn 200-250 songs onto one disc with the MP3 format. I have over 90 gigs of music on my iTunes, most of it rare and strange. I was hoping to share here.

That's too easy. And lazy. I hate to sound like a character from High Fidelity, but a good mix is more than just, "Hey, here's sixty songs I like." There should be a flow to it, and I just don't think you can get that kind of flow over three discs or 200 mp3s.

It's not a competition, so I'll just give you a HIGH FIVE, pour a scotch, and call you BROTHER.

My CD that I'm making for Ben and Turbo is going to be two things:
1. A guitarist showcase
and
2. A modern-day soundtrack for the movie 'Vanishing Point'.
