Royal Pains - USA Networks

I couldn't find a thread for this show and I'm a little surprised it is really outstanding!

I kind of ignored it when it first came on the air, since I was getting over the whole medical type shows (except House, I LOVE House) and I figured it would meet the fate of most network shows, canceled.

Glad to see I was wrong! I didn't watch this until about two weeks ago but once I watched the first episode I was hooked and burned through five episodes in one night.

It's a great show with an interesting premise, the medical stuff is kinda meh but I think the charisma of the lead (the dude from "Good Morning, Miami!") combined with the charisma of his on show brother (Joey's nephew from "Joey") really makes this work.

I sort of consider this to be the medical version of burn notice, high production value, charismatic leads, plenty of eye candy (for either sex) along with some zany home made solutions (this time for health). That last part may have just been in the first episode however... I think they dropped that idea, I can't remember.

I was surprised by how much I liked the pilot. The McGuyver-esque emergency treatment for the kid who totaled the Ferrari was great. Not sure if they dropped that idea. I've got the rest of the episodes DVR'd but haven't had time to watch them.

I've always liked Mark Feuerstein, and I'm glad he finally has a show that's been picked up for a second season.

Watched the pilot. The brother was just too annoying to keep watching.

I saw a good chunk of an episode at a friend's house, and it seemed like the House mystery illness formula transplanted to wherever it takes place. Not impressed.

Royal Pains

I love the show, but the brother Evan is so freaking annoying.....the producers should drop him. He has no redeeming values to bring.

Overall I enjoyed the series, I was a little bummed I have to wait until next summer to see some more episodes.

The charm of the main cast really is the only thing holding me to the show. I also agree with TV Gal over at Zap2it, I hope they're not pushing the brother with the PA... I like the dynamic as it stands now... perhaps a little less of the annoying brother. I liked him better as the ackward guy trying to hit on the chicks in the hot tub that turned into a bad situation than the guy tagging along pestering people for more business.
