This leaked a few days back, and it just slays. I can't say I've loved their output this decade (it's not necessarily bad, it just hasn't been very consistent), but this album rivals their classic 90's output (Painful, Elecr-O-Pura, I Can Hear the Heart Beating as One) in my opinion.
It's 12 tracks. The first nine are relatively traditional pop songs that run the gamut from soul to psychedelic to ambient. That portion of the record lasts for roughly 35 minutes. The final three space-y jams run for 36. Pretty ballsy move on their part, but I think it works. Overall it feels cohesive (at least on a sonic level) though it will probably be treated by most like two distinct albums jammed into one. That's probably a fair criticism, all things considered, though oddly enough I think the album might be the best starting point for the uninitiated since it really highlights the band's myriad musical preoccupations without being a total scattershot mess. Definite end-of-year material here.
