There are a couple of songs that I'd swap out (all of the 'Diver Down' stuff, save for 'Little Guitars', can be excised) but overall that's a pretty kick ASS set of Van Halen songs. Even the bonus tracks are pretty decent.

Mean Streets!

I'm just glad to see so much of their first album on there. Really, front to back, that's a killer piece of music.
Yeah, bought.
Thanks. Pass.

And Killswitch? You're in this game why, exactly?

Hot Topic street cred.
The inclusion of Alter Bridge pains me, but the =VH= list is killer.

I must admit my excitement over "Space Truckin'," as well.
The Van Halen songs are fantastic. The other songs, not so much, if only because some of the best ones are already in Rock Band.
I look forward to buying this when it's $20.
...And Rock Band has The Beatles. Check and Mate.

Yep, and head straight to quickplay to make a Van Halen 1 setlist. And what a lazy group of "other" songs.

Rock Band Beatles for the win!

Seriously, why not go with Guitar Hero: Warrant while were at it?

Wait...did you REALLY just equate Van Halen with Warrant?

Not equate, but Van Halen ain't deserving of a videogame, just like Aerosmith. So let's push this further with Poison, Warrant and L.A. Guns.

And I wet myself for Guitar Hero: Winger.
Nice collection of Van Halen tracks! The list of "other" artists is especially awful, "Safe European Home" being the only song I covet. This would be a good rental to go through the Van Halen tracks, nothing more.
OK, call me a heretic, then. I'm much more jazzed to jam out to DLR era Van Halen songs than the Beatles songs. There's no denying that the RB: Beatles game will be superior as far as quality goes (RB is better in virtually every way than GH), and I like the Beatles as much as the next guy, but I grew up on Van Halen.

While I agree that the Beatles game is most certainly 10 times more exciting, you realize that Eddie Van Halen is probably the second most revered guitar player of all time, right? To say his band is undeserving of a guitar playing simulation game is a tad silly.

I love Van Halen. But it's still not worth a WHOLE GAME of it. Christ, Metallica was good enough for it, The Beatles, sure, but beside Zeppelin, who else has the catalog solid enough for this?

Not Van Halen, no matter how goldy he plays guitar. There's some awesome songs that are worth the buy I guess, but 60$? No way.

I'd buy a Queen or Rush game instantly without even looking at the setlist.

Same for me with Floyd.

Same here, but while their guitarist ain't Eddie, they're better bands with more depth.
Martin, you really ought to listen to the 'Van Halen', 'Van Halen II', 'Fair Warning', and '1984' albums all the way through. Those 4 DLR era albums are rock solid, front to back, and they have some great representation on this game. I'm not slamming on 'Women and Children First', but I find it to be pretty inconsistent. 'Diver Down' is really the only bad DLR era album, but even THAT has 'Little Guitars' on it.

Also, these songs will be GREAT in a drunken party atmosphere.

Fair Warning will forever be my favorite VH album, followed shortly by the self-titled debut.

I know my Van Halen pretty well. But it ain't Pink Floyd or Zeppelin.

Seriously, it's not gonna sell very well.

Nothing wrong with that. Personally, I'd rank them all:
'Van Halen'
'Fair Warning'
'1984'
'Van Halen 2'
.
.
'Women and Children First'
.
.
.
.
.
'Diver Down'

I'm not a big Van Hagar fan, but '5150' was pretty damn solid.

What he said. And I'd probably only bother with like a third or so of the VH tracks.

But I'm not a "Guitar Hero" (in bands, I played rhythm guitar or drums more often than I ever played lead), and I can see the appeal for others of having hours' worth of EVH to play along with.

Unfortunately for me, I just don't find their songs all that interesting, and that goes for a lot of the other bands I've seen either coming to this game, or suggested.

On the other hand, as with The Beatles, a lot of the bands I'd like to see more heavily represented in the plastic guitar genre (Los Lobos, Pretenders, The Replacements, Tom Petty, etc.) aren't going to give fans of shredding the experience they're looking for, so I wouldn't expect to see anything but a song here or there.

Call me when Guitar Hero: Television comes out.

That's about right, although I've never heard any of the Hagar albums in full. I was never a fan of his solo stuff let alone the VH stuff. Ironically, his solo concerts are a fucking blast and I never miss them if possible.

Which really doesn't count for much when you're pretend-playing a plastic guitar. I'm not looking for lyrical complexity and complicated harmonies. I want big loud crunchy guitar licks that I grew up listening to, that make me feel like a real goddamn guitar god, even on a fake guitar.

Pick up '5150' and give it a spin. If you listen to it on its own merits without the DLR baggage, it holds up really well. 'OU812' is worth it for the song 'Source of Infection', but it's a step down from '5150' in my opinion. The less said about 'F.U.C.K.' and 'Balance', the better.

Where are the Steve Vai and Yngwie Fucking Malmsteen versions?

Thing is: only the guitarist will really have fun. And maybe the singer, but the rest is standard. The game would have made more sense if it retained the old GH formula of 2 guitars only.

BUT YOU CAN PLAY AS WOLFGANG VAN HALEN!!!!!!

Just make a 'Rock Band: G3 (aka Carpal Tunnel Syndrome)' with Satriani, Vai, Johnson, Fripp, Petrucci, and Malmsteen.

You're really not giving Alex his due as a drummer.

If it did happen... I would hate to be responsible for the deaths of all those who tried to keep up while playing.

Come on, not many bands have the colour and flair of Van Halen's early guitar stylings. There are plenty of bands I like more, but they're really perfect for this kind of game.

There's Malmsteen in Rock Band, and all three tracks suck as gameplay.

Satriani and Steve Vai are in GHIII as DLC. Surfin' With The Alien was extraordinarily crap to play. But For The Love Of God was amazing. Thats one out of three of those guys I would actually play in another game.

That said, Buckethead's Soothsayer is the last time I've ever truly LOVED Guitar Hero. More of that, please.

That song will easily be the hardest one in the game for both the guitarist and the drummer.
If I had to just completely guess, not including the 'Guitar Solo' songs, I would say that "I'm the One" will be the hardest to play on guitar. It's also the one that I'm looking forward to the most to playing.

I don't know, Spanish Fly might actually break fingers.
I know you were probably limiting your impulse buy to guitar games, Judas, but you do know of the Queen Singstar game coming out, right?

Review and tracklist here.
Hahaha, I love how Wolfgang is the bassist but the rest of the band models are all the coked out '70's versions. Jesus.
I just saw that they are giving this sucker away FREE by mail with purchase of GH5.

Uh, yes, please?
Where did you see that? That might be enough for me to buy GH5.

The weird thing about this game is that eventually you get to play as like, Van Halen as they are now. At what point does this just become "Guitar Hero : Your Dad"?
