The Green Lantern t-shirt cannon always came in handy when battling criminals from the planet of hooting drunkards.

Not my best work.

It wasn't long before the Proctology corps realised Hal enjoyed his work a bit too much.

Guess that's it for submissions. Need an impartial judge to pick the winner.

How about it, Eileen?

Green Lantern First Flight should make alot of...Greenbacks for WB, and could be better than the live action film, which could suffer from too much...Greenscreen. I loved the film, and it was not only great to see the...Hal Jordan Green Lantern, but he was introduced as a member of the galaxy spanning corps as well. Victor Garber was great as first the wise then...EEEEEEEEEvil Sinestro! Chris Meloni was perfect for Hal. Jordan has always been cocky, and he used puns in the 70's, not just on the superfriends, but in the comics as well. I definitely would love a...Green Lantern II.

The question I have is, will there be a...Jonah Hex dtv, considering the live action film will ride into theaters next year?

Good review, David. I really thought they did a great job with this outing. I found Superman: Doomsday to be pretty boring, and I haven't had a chance to watch the Wonder Woman dvd yet.

Sinestro was indeed a fantastic heavy, and I was surprised at how much chaos he caused. For a second I thought this wasn't Green Lantern: First Flight, but Only Flight. Green Lantern Corp got messed up. This gives me hope that a competent, exciting live-action film can be made. They just need to have the sense to set it away from Earth.

Well, finally had time to download and view the film.

I'm very impressed for someone who is not normally a fan of the Warner/DC animated pantheon. Perhaps it's me, but if DC could bring this kind of commitment and zeal to their live action films, Marvel could very well have a fight on it's hands.

As for the plot itself, I immediately thought of "Training Day In Space"... and I'm sure others have seen that similarity as well. The GL origin is laid out fairly quickly with a minimum of exposition/back story, and cuts right to the plot of the Jordan/Sinestro pairing.

The voice-over work is excellent, and while Chris Meloni is a bit flat at times, he does yeoman's work. With a few more projects like this, he should find his stride very quickly. I was blasted into the past by the voice of David L. Lander(Squiggy from Laverne & Shirley, for those of you as old as I am...), and it's good to see he's staying busy.

The animation is top drawer, with few CGI elements to distract from the classic style this feature showcases.

Would I have bought this normally? I'll be honest and say probably not, since I am not a regular comic reader/viewer... but I will say this. Viewing it has generated enough interest from me to spock out the rest of the animated films in Warner's DC library.

Besides... looking at the other titles, I notice that Michael Ironside is the voice of Darkseid... and I am all over that like a hobo on a ham sammitch!

Michael Ironsidebar: He voices Batman in an episode of The Animated Series where a bunch of kids tell stories offering different interpretations of Batman. One kid recounts a scene from Miller's Dark Knight Returns.

Still one of my favorite episodes of that series. I love the bit when the kid with the long hair is going on and on about how Batman has all sorts of gadgets, like ice skates in his boots, and that his car can drive up walls, and the other kids just kinda roll their eyes and say, "Yeah sure, Joel...whatever." I laughed so hard at that.

That's one of the best meta-jokes ever. I always forget about it, then laugh my ass off whenever I hear it.

It was a great retelling of the original story by...Denny O'Neill, I think? It was one of my favorite comics and it turned out to be one of my favorite B:TAS eps.

This was a solid origin film - it gets the "origin" part out of the way before the title sequence, and turns into what the title promises. Capitalizes on the often-untapped potential of the Green Lantern mythos and melds it with a really accessible Q&A/Internal Affairs type story.

Small detail, but I like how the GL uniform keeps the reworked GL logo from Superman: The Animated Series, but also has a bit of a priest's collar look to it.

Um, holy shit. I never saw that episode! Must've been from a later season, after I stopped being able to watch regularly. Anyways, they did a great job or interpreting Miller's style (but without the scratchy ink lines.)

So yeah, Green Lantern's pretty good. One thing I've noticed, is the quality of WB's DC DTV animated movies is really nice. I felt a little too familiar with the story's beats because of stuff like Training Day, but I love a good cosmic DC story.

One thing that threw me was how grisly the GL movie was. I haven't seen much of the animated stuff since Justice League Unlimited, but it was surprisingly violent, which isn't the best thing ever.
Yeah, they've been embracing the PG13 rating as a way to rope in the adults who buy this stuff. At least, that's my cynical take. Wonder Woman in particular has some fairly graphic combat sequences, but I felt it was appropriate there. The only thing I really remember from the Public Enemies DTV was Power Girl's tits (on second thought, maybe that's just me). And let's just say Owlman's master plan in the new Justice League Crisis movie is grim.

Not a huge Green Lantern fan but I really enjoyed this. It's a pretty solid introduction for those looking for one before the live-action version, and I hope the live-action version follows this ones lead and gets the test pilot stuff out of the way quickly.
