Why does it remind you of Phantasy Star as opposed to other 16 bit RPGs? The female lead? The cowardly lion as Myau? PS is very close to my favorite RPG.

The first person combat. There aren't any screens of it online yet, unfortunately, but it's just in the style of that series.

The style of what part of the series? Certainly wasn't the style of 4 (the best one)... or from what I can remember 2 or 3...
