Visiting Minneapolis: Meetup possible?

Thread Starter
I'm going to be in Minneapolis October 4th-6th if everything works out as it should, and while my friends go to the Creed concert at the Target Center (yes, I know, moving on) I was wondering if anybody would be interested in meeting up for some dinner. I'm aiming for somewhere in the vicinity of the Target Center obviously and I'm open to suggestions, just be aware that I'm only 20 at this point.

Hopefully we can work something out, I'd be pumped to meet some fellow Chewers.
Let's see what happens when we get closer to October. I'm going to be pretty busy that weekend with a wedding, but I should hopefully be able to meet up with you on one of those days for some grub.
I would be down for a meetup. I'd probably take you out of downtown for a dinner, though, unless the Hard Rock Cafe is your thing.
We should take him to Matt's for a Jucy Lucy.

I just had one at the 10-8 and was underwhelmed, but I would be up for Matt's. I was thinking Quang for Vietnamese or Black Forest for a rueben.
Black Forest would be good, but it will be packed for Oktoberfest when he's here. He can't drink, so that would probably be a wasted effort anyways. I'm not familiar with Quang.

Good point, although I don't usually go there to drink. There's a nice Malaysian restaurant across the street called Peninsula, too.

What cuisines are your favorites, Jakespeare?
Bump.

Jake, are you still coming?

Yep. Sorry, after checking the thread fairly often for the first couple of days I kind of forgot about it.

I'm really simple when it comes to eating options, I mean, the best you'll find in this neck of the woods is Red Lobster. Honestly the Hard Rock does sound about my speed.

I'm not big on Chinese/Thai/foods from that region though, I see that being batted around as an option.
Too bad, we've got some great Viking food restaurants out here.

Let's figure shit out when it gets closer to your arrival. We'll make something happen for ya.

Sounds good. My friend's wife is a travel agent so I'll see if she has a restaurant guide that I can look through, see if anything catches my eye.
I'm leaning towards Matt's, though. You'd love a Jucy Lucy.

I would agree. And it's about as Minnesotan a cuisine as you can get outside of lutefisk.

No pressure, though.
Man, I haven't been to Quangs in forever. That place is so good.

PM me when we get down to the wire guys, there's a very good possibility I'll be able to make it to something, assuming I still haven't found a job (which looks doubtful).

And so inexpensive too! You'd never know you only paid $6 for one of the best Asian meals you've ever had.

I'll stop gushing now.
I KNOW!!! I used to live in Stephens Park, and when I was undergoing chemotherapy Quangs was one of the few things I could eat and keep down. Something about that mix of garlic and spice I think.

So you aren't 'of age' Jake? I don't actually drink, but I love spending a few hours over at the Kitty Kat Club every week or so. It's a pretty good place to chat, though the local bands are always a total crapshoot.

Date change: I guess I'm only going to be there the 5th and the 6th.

Just thought I'd float this out there, but I'm hoping to catch A Serious Man if it gets to Minneapolis first week or Capitalism: A Love Story if it doesn't, if anybody thinks they might be up for a movie as well.

Just catching up on this. Sunday the 4th would have been my best shot to group up with you guys: I'm busy on the evening of the 5th and (probably) busy on the 6th, so I'll have to catch you guys some other time.

Shitfuck.

That sucks Judas.

Bendrix, Gabe, are you guys still up for at least dinner? If you're up for the movie too I did find a theater playing A Serious Man (the Uptown Landmark Theatre) about ten minutes away from the Target Center.
Jakespeare you are in luck. I work for Landmark theatre and can probably get you in for free for both films. Let me know closer to the date and we can set it up.
I can swing a couple more people for this too. Just let me know and I will do my best to set it up.
I'm gonna be chased out of the cool Minneapolis club for this (and please, please, please don't take this personally Chiana), but I hate the Uptown theater. Hate it. Saw moon there and missed most of the movie because I was mesmerized by the huge fucking stain on the vinyl sheet they call a screen. And they have the gall to charge more than any other theater in town.

I know it makes me a bad movie fan for not supporting the local independent place, but I'm cool with the Lagoon and waiting a few days.

Anyway I have plans both Monday on Tuesday, but I can probably move the Monday plans for a dinner (Monday's I get together with a friend and we make dinner and iTunes Mad Men - totally gay). Tuesday I'm free until around 5pm if you're looking for lunch.

And parking is a bitch and a half. I'm with you, Gabe. But if this is the only chance you think you'll get to see A Serious Man, Jake, I can go.

I should be able to do either Monday or Tuesday.
Gabe, I don't take your hate of the Uptown theatre personally at all. I used to be the assistant manager at the Uptown around 1996. I voluntarily went back to floor staff after just 3 months. I have waited over 13 years for the Uptown to be remodeled. But the owner of Landmark (Mark Cuban) has not shown any interest in sinking the money in the theatre. I guess he is more interested in the Dallas Mavericks.
Oh thank God. That's actually a weight off. I genuinely feel guilty about avoiding the Uptown, mostly because my friends call me a snob for doing so.

Really? Because I almost never see anybody other than snobs going there.
woah. are people meeting up?

I'd love to crash whatever you all have planned.

Sorry, Chiana. I also care little for the Uptown. But it's strictly from a former projectionist/sound technician background that I hate most theatres that don't meet my OCD requirements. Maskings off by an inch? Sound echoes? Focus not 100% perfect? Xenon bulb not adequately bright enough for the distance to the screen? I am on that shit with a classically passive agressive email to management.

Seriously though. I've never met fellow Chewers. Let me know. I'd love to catch the flick with all of you.

Great! This is going to be a good time.

So let's do Monday. My friends are now going to the Vikings/Packers game so I imagine they'll need to be there early. I'll check for sure today but I'm guessing I'll be free about 5:30-6:00.

Chiana, if you can get us in free for A Serious Man that would be great. I have one question about the Lagoon, do you know if This Might Get Loud will still be there next week out of curiousity?

So we're looking at Gabe, Bendrix, D. Richard, are you going to be able to join us Chiana or are you working?
Damn...let me see what I can move around. I'd love to make this.
But what are we doing, and where are we meeting?
No matter what, the restaurants and bars in the Uptown area will be PACKED on Monday with the football game. Be aware of that when you plan your parking.

Dinner and a movie? A Serious Man for whoever wants to go to the Uptown?

Somebody will have to pick a place for dinner though as we were discussing above. I'd be up for trying a Juicy Lucy (having googled it since you guys mentioned it).

Matt's would probably be the closest for a Lucy, but it's still not close. Parking would be more tolerable, however.

Uptown Bar would be great, but I'm not sure when they start carding. I'll think about it and get back to you. Open to any other suggestions.
Well it's not going to work for me on Monday. On account of the football. But I hope you all have fun. Definitely go to Matt's. And if you want to go further, do up The Blue Door on west Selby Ave in St. Paul. Blue Cheese Juicy Lucys. Even better!

Now let's not get crazy here.

Seriously though, we should decide plans for sure.

What time does the movie start?

Your hotel is in downtown, correct?

I can pick you up and take you anywhere after 4:00. If your heart is set on Matt's, it wouldn't be too far away.

The hotel is actually a block or two away from the Mall of America. I'm waiting to hear time frames on when my friends are heading to the game, hopefully soon.

Movie plays at 7:30.
Any chance I can pick you up at the hotel? That is waaay closer to Matt's.

If that's where you want to go.

I'm fine with eating just about anywhere. Matt's seemed to be the general consensus. If anybody wants to go somewhere else that works too.

Gabe? Judas? Chiana?
I've never been to this place, and it looks like it would work out well for me. If I were already on that side of town I could get where I need to be that night in no time. I'm in for food, and assume I'm not in for the follow-up movie at 7:30.

No guarantees. I can say with 100% certainty that the movie is out of the question, but I MIGHT be able to swing dinner...depending upon the time.

NO guarantees, though.
Hi guys, sorry I took so long to get back to people. I have been working long hard hours at both jobs. I have Monday night off. I would love to go to Juicy Lucy's but probably can't get off from work before 5:10 or 5:30. I can try to meet you guys there but I would be coming from the bus at rush hour. I would recommend we get to the theatre by 7:00. Parking maybe a bitch even on a Mon. depending on how many people show up for the &:30 show. I know the Uptown got about 300 for the 10:15 show last night. And how many people are going to the movie? I need to put this on the pass list.

It'll just be Bendrix and I for the movie it sounds like.

Do you know how busy Capitalism: A Love Story has been at the Lagoon? I'm going on Tuesday and I'm wondering how far I should be there in advance.

Ok, so let's say meet at Matts (just had a thought, Matts BAR doesn't mean I need to be 21 to eat there does it?) at 5:15. I get into town about 2 (leaving at 6 in the morning, blech) so that'll give me time to grab a shower at the hotel. If we meet at 5:15 when will you need to pick me up Bendrix?

Looking forward to this guys, hope it all comes together.
This sounds quite doable. I may just pick the passes up on Sunday to save time. I will be working at the Lagoon on Tuesday Jake --so I can put you and a few others on the pass list. Capitalism has not been selling out. It's on 2 screens and A Serious Man has spit the customer base. Things are looking very exciting for me . I can't believe I will finally meet people from Chud.

EDIT: Never mind, plans changed, I'm good.
I've got bendrix's cell phone number. If I can be there for dinner, I'll be there - it really depends upon whether or not I'm stuck at work at the end of the day (which is likely for all of October, unfortunately). Assuming that I can make it to dinner, please be aware that I'll have to leave Matt's by 6:30 AT THE LATEST in order to make my Lodge meeting at 7pm.

Today/tonight would have been perfect. Oh well.

5:00 would be swell. PM your cell number.

What hotel are you staying at?

PM sent. I'll figure out which hotel and post in the morning. I can't remember at the moment.
I hope I have no trouble finding you guys. I will probably be the ghoddess sized black woman wandering around asking "Which one of you guys is from Minot"? You will recognize me as the flip side of Halle Berry. I will be coming straight from my daycare job so I will restrain myself from bringing up cute poopy diaper tales. See ya soon.

I can already tell you that I will be wearing a black Criterion shirt and a brown hoodie that says Totally Rad Show on it. Just look for that.
