Favorite EAST COAST Beach Destinations

Since my summer has basically been rained out so far, I am planning a long awaited trip to the beach next week for a few days to get in some actual vacation before the rain picks back up. I thought I'd ask fellow Chewers for their favorite places to visit the East Coast Ocean.

I'll list a few and why I like them

* Rehobeth Beach in Deleware. Went here as a kid, its alot of fun, good surf, pretty clean
* Any Cape Cod beach.... great Massachusetts destination, with great examples of our wonderful Bay State wild life. Cons: Too Many Tourists, and if you live in MA, you've gone there too frequently to really enjoy it. I had to go on like three seperate school trips there over the years.
* Easton Beach, Newport RI. My absolute favorite East Coast Ocean beach, on my favorite island found in the East Coast Sea. Newport is an amazing place if you've never been. You can visit the houses of the 19th century super rich, walk the cobblestone streets, go to awesome beach side restaurants, and my favorite place to eat, The Brick Alley Pub (they have awesome pinball tables and food). This is where I'll be next week.

Curious to hear the thoughts of others, or hear about places I might not have heard of! Anyone else have any cool ocean related summer plans?

Princess Kate, Cooper Beach in Southampton, NY is my favorite beach. Dr Beach usually rates it in his top 3 or 4 each year. I love to...Ride The Waves, sans board of any kind.

Oh nice, I've been there, you're right, it is pretty nice. As for 'riding the waves', I enjoy being hit by powerful waves and knocked over. I guess it comes from growing up away from the coast and the fact most of the time I spend in the water is in pools, lakes, ponds or bathtubs. Feeling the power of the surf is endlessly amusing for me. I am not well balanced enough to surf on a board (which is odd, because in theory at least, it seems like skiing which I am great at).

Rehobeth Beach isn't nearly as nice as it used to be. Storms have really taken a beating on the beach and eroded a bit of it away. Its maybe 30ft from boardwalk to water now. Plus they have grassy dunes that I don't remember being there 2 years ago. You cant sit on the benches and look out at the ocean anymore.

The restaurants there are great though. A lot more of a selection of highbrow stuff.

But for now Ocean City is my beach of choice. Its defiantly way over the top. Im sure if gambling was legal it would be Maryland's Vegas. The beach is immense though.
