The Time Traveler's Wife wasn't on here.

This list must have been made before its release.

Interesting list, though I have to admit I'd expected a couple more obscure movies. Was quite surprised at the additions of Supercop and Anything Else.

I can't believe he prefers Police Story 3 to the vastly superior Drunken Master 2.

Thanks for the link!

Interesting to get QT's unique perspective on the last wave. Pretty good list. Only flabergasting choice is Woody's ANYTHING ELSE. I'll have to give it another look.

That does sound very intriguing. My bad though that Youtube is blocked at work. Any place where I can find that list scripted? Not that I am not going to watch that asap when I am home anyway.

Quite an odd list there QT. Love the 'Memories of Murder' though. Does what Zodiac does but better in my opinion.

Thanks Humanoid!

This is an acceptable list. Rather conservative for QT actually. Haven´t seen Anything else so I can´t really comment on Devin´s latest article on the same subject.

I'm surprised he put JSA in there instead of Oldboy or Mr. Vengeance. Gotta give him props for putting down Memories of Murder, one of the best films of the last decade

"To each their own" is all I can say. QT's certainly an odd-ball in terms of the films he openly talks about nerdgasming over. And that's one of the things I love about the guy.

Maybe he just really dug Woody's performance in Anything Else, which was pretty funny and strange. But, yeah, that's an odd one. Has to make Jason Bigg's day, at least.

I don't understand all the love for "Audition". I thought it was shaping up into a nice little love story and then it was ruined by all the stupid, boring, gratuitous torture bullshit. I know that was kind of the point - catch you off guard with the violence but setting up the movie as one thing (which was actually really good as it was) before 'shockingly' morphing it into something else just annoyed me.

It's like how I was digging "Million Dollar Baby" as a solid boxing movie and then it suddenly turned into this lame euthanasia melodrama. I just don't understand what's interesting cinematically about acts of torture being rendered realistically. It's a total yawn, and even though it was a total fakeout and meant to just be the window dressing for the *real* point of the movie, I thought that love story at the beginning was one of the sweetest ones I'd seen in awhile.

The girl was more interesting to me putting on her innocent, kind-hearted act than she was when we got to see her real character, the sadistic bully. And I really don't see how the guy deserved what she did to him, even if he lied about what the auditions were for. I kinda liked how she said that word over and over again when she was going to work on him with the piano wire, but the scene was still just blah.

Anything would make Jason Bigg's Day. He would jump at recastiing 'Ethan' on 90210.

Police Story III has Maggie Cheung. And Michelle Yeoh. And guns. Lots of guns!

Surprised there's no Wong Kar-wai on his list.

DRUNKEN MASTER II has Anita Mui and Lau Kar-Leung - and uses them well. POLICE STORY III completely squanders Yuen Wah and Maggie Cheung's role is barely even a cameo. POLICE STORY III has lots of guns; DRUNKEN MASTER II has the Axe Gang. POLICE STORY III is directed by Stanley Tong. DRUNKEN MASTER II is half directed by Lau Kar-Leung, half directed by Jackie Chan.

Advantage: DRUNKEN MASTER II. This isn't even close.

Why does everyone keep pluralizing FRIDAY? Did Google die today?

Look, I love Drunken Master II and probably prefer it to Police Story III overall. But does Drunken Master II have a scene with a fat American coke dealer, staring at a huge pile of cocaine, snorting with laughter and then declaring, "I don't know about the rest of you...but I'm buying three tons."

No, didn't think so. Advantage: Police Story III.

Don't forget Ti Lung, only 8 years Chan's senior and cast as Wong Fei Hung's father!

Both movies are great. But I prefer CITY HUNTER. Ha ha hee hee.

Ti Lung, while the casting works, doesn't really have a lot to do* - I suspect he would have had a bigger role in the film Lau Kar-Leung originally set out to make, not unlike how Andy Lau's role was originally intended to be more than a cameo. But Jackie had other plans.

DRUNKEN MASTER II is a classic but it's a classic born from a VERY troubled production.

CITY HUNTER is Gala Gala Happy.

*Rather like Yuen Wah in PS3... only not quite as much of a waste.

Can't agree with you there (not that anybody'd care) ... but Memories of Murder was decent enough, but certainly compares badly to Zodiac.

Some of the comedy in it was badly judged and unbalanced the film.

Seems to me that people are less critical with foreign language films after they go to the extra effort of reading subtitles (it's also much harder to notice bad acting).
No that's not it at all. I just think the 'Being obsessed with the case' aspect is handled better than it is in Zodiac. That's not a slight on that film, but it could very well be down to my dislike of Greysmith and his self-serving books.

That's a criticism you could make of many Asian films though the odd switches in tone generally add to the charm for me.
