To be fair I was like fifteen, but ouch.

Continue.

I used to like blink 182 when I was small
post #3 of 238
I liked Korn for a few years in the mid-90s.
In fifth grade I LOVED Limp Bizkit. Beat that.

Yeah, I liked Limp Bizkit a lot too.

Alternate thread title: "Why Teenagers Are Douchebags"

Loverboy.

I was all over their first 3 albums in the early 80s. They are totally unlistenable now.
Sha-Na-Na and Flash Cadillac and the Continental Kids were terrible bands-- even at the time, I think I knew that. But I listened, and bought their records, because they helped introduce me to 50's era performers that, at the time, had basically vanished from radio, and popular consciousness in general.

True fact: I once saw Flash Cadillac open for Roxy Music.
Nightwish is probably my biggest travesty, I used to be REALLY into those douchebags. I also kinda dug Limp Bizkit at one point and System of a Down.

To be fair, Tarja had a fantastic voice that needed to be featured in a better band.
Enuff Z' Nuff- even saw them live in a club that is now a hardware store.
Ratt/Twisted Sister- Irony be damned, they sucked. Except for I Wanna Rock.

Wait, it's not cool to like System of a Down anymore? I really dig one of the offshoots, Scars on Broadway.
Meh, I can still listen to System of a Down's first cd if I'm in the right mood. Regardless I'm in with you guys and the whole nu-metal thing. ICP too. I listened to shit until I discovered 80s goth and legitimate metal when I was 15 or 16. My tastes have evolved from there.

Another one: Imperial Drag.

This group consisted of many ex-bandmembers from Jellyfish. I played the hell out of this album for a few months, thinking that I'd found a replacement for Jellyfish...in retrospect, I was waaaaaaaaaay off base.

I will defend Jellyfish to this day, but Imperial Drag does NOT fucking hold up at all.

In comparison to a lot of the bands mentioned so far, Imperial Drag is The Beatles.

Jellyfish needs defending? News to me.

I bought albums by Foreigner, Bad Company, and 80s-era Heart when I was in junior high. This is what happens when the only rock radio stations available are heavy on the classic rock.
I liked Concrete Blonde for a spell.

Fuel, probably.

Same here.

Difficulty: Realizing that all three of those were fairly indefensible when I finally hit 20.

Aqua.

I win this thread.

I've run into many people who didn't 'get' them, unfortunately. 'Bellybutton' and 'Spilt Milk' still get pretty heavy rotation on my iPod.

I'll also admit to jamming out to Journey and Styx in the early 80s. Nowadays, I can really only listen to the Tommy Shaw/Neal Schon songs because they at least 'rock', somewhat. The syrupy ballads that Steve Perry and Dennis DeYoung put out are unlistenable, now.

Not by a longshot if I was being completely honest.

It's a Pyrrhic victory to be sure.

Live, that was another one. I really liked them when I was in high school.

To be fair, "Mental Jewelry" is worth a listen, although I could never get behind "Throwing Copper" or anything afterwards. True story: at my prom, the DJ played "Lightning Crashes" as a slow song. How are you supposed to dance to that?

My brother absolutely loved this band, I'm guessing about the same age, because he was still in high school. I just never got it, probably the same way he regarded my obsession with Alice In Chains, which I understand there is a considerable movement to throw on the trash heap, but I sure did like my dark E flat dirge metal back then.
Aside from a handful of loathsome songs on their last couple of records I don't see much wrong with liking System of a Down - one of the smartest and weirdest mainstream rock/metal bands of their day as far as I'm concerned.
Musically, LIVE weren't that awful, it was the lyrics that made them the piece of shit they were.

ETA:

Come on baby leave some change behind
She was a bitch, but I don't care
She brought our food out on time
And wore a funky barrette in her hair
Live just seemed to get weirder and more quasi-spiritual as time went on.

They weren't awful, they were just kinda bland, but agreed that the lyrics made them ten times worse.

"THEEE ANGELLLOPENSHERAAAAEEEIIIIYYAAIIIEEEYYESSS"
You liked Creed though, so you may as well have leprosy.
Oh, I almost forgot, I liked Orgy.
Will anyone cop to liking Bush?

Quasi spiritual as in

Quote:
Love will lead us, alright
Love will lead us, she will lead us
Can you hear the dolphin's cry?
See the road rise up to meet us
It's in the air we breathe tonight
Love will lead us, she will lead us
God, what a turd.

It's true. It was the "cool" thing to like in a predominantly Southern Baptist small town, which is the only defense I can muster for it.

So, yeah, leprosy would be a massive step up from that.

Saw them once, but never really liked them. was indifferent. I do remember thinking the Greedy Fly video looked cool.

There should be a camp for people like you, Jake.

And not one of those fun camps where you make birdhouses.
I liked Everclear a whole bunch and must have seen them about 8 times from '95-'97 or so.

I'll defend Mental Jewelry till my last dying breath.

Ugh...I was managing a new/used CD store when 'Sixteen Stone' and 'Razorblade Suitcase' got released. One of my employees used to beat that 'Sixteen Stone' album into the ground whenever I wasn't there. I was so relieved when 'Razorblade Suitcase' came out and a ton of their fans (including my employee) realized that they did, in fact, SUCK.

I was recently told by my doctor that I like two songs by The Killers and I only have six months to live it down.

Bingo.

Loved Live, but after the album with the Dolphin Cry, I started seeing them for what they are. Throwing Copper ain't too bad still, but fuck. I remember seeing them live and presenting their guru or spiritual adviser. I should have taken a clue then.

Who is going to admit to EVER liking Nickelback?

I remember seeing them live for free. You have no clue how bad Gavin Rossdale sings until you heard it in person.

When I was a teen, these were favorites: Blind Guardian and Rhapsody. And here's a fact about music that I learned right after:

DUNGEONS & DRAGONS + METAL = SHIT. When your lyrics are about The Lord of The Rings or your latest D&D game, you suck.

Right here. Saw them a few times on the Sixteen Stone tour, which must have passed through New York 5 times, each time playing a bigger venue until they hit arenas (which is pretty rare for a band touring on their first album).

Listened to the follow up album twice, never liked anything else.
i liked aqua when barbie girl came out.

but i mean, life in plastic IS fantastic, so you cant blame me
post #48 of 238
There have been songs I've liked by otherwise awful bands, but I wouldn't say I liked the bands themselves.

Millions of Zeppellin fans disagree.

It's one thing to do a song there and there, but a whole album, let alone a musical career? Fuck that shit.
