Project Runway - Season 6

The season premiere is this Thursday (finally) on the Lifetime network. Any word on whether or not there are any changes to the format of the show?
Besides being in LA? Nothing that has leaked. This season has been in the can for almost a year. Amazing that nothing of any sustance hasn't leaked.

No kidding. They've done one hell of a job maintaining a shroud of secrecy over this season. I recall that the finalists weren't even introduced for their fashion week exhibitions.

Damn, gotta love the fact that the two MN boys came in first and second.
HAve this on my DVR, plan on watching it soon. But damm sucks that Lifetime is not in HD, unlike Bravo.

We finally caught up with Week 3's episode last night. Glad to see Mitchell go; he lacked the work ethic and the maturity to be on the show, to be honest.

Once again, one of the two MN guys came in first. I'm feeling pretty good about both of their chances to make it to the final showing.

Kind of surprised that this season, the nutjobs are actually going first. They usually last longer.

To be honest, the nutjobs are easily the least talented of the contestants this season. Ari, Malvin, and Mitchell shouldn't have even made it on the show in the first place. Those were 3 good cuts.

Chris is my favorite so far. It helps that Shakopee is just 3 minutes from where I live, though.
Still kind of early. VERY hard for me to pick one of the designers at this point, as most of them have been showing some flashes of good/great talent. I'm ready for a wild challenge at this point. Everything has been fairly "safe" challenge-wise.

Agreed. They haven't done a 'make a dress out of cow pattys' type challenge yet, and those are usually pretty entertaining. Regardless, I don't think that Crystal or Epperson are going to be sticking around for much longer.

Exactly. Being nuts doesn't necessarily mean untalented, but it seems to have been a trend this season. And Mitchell made me furious when he picked Ra'Mon so that he could "carry" him. Now that the episode has aired, I hope Ra'Mon went to Mitchell's house and kicked his ass.

That's not exactly a fair statement. We saw one outfit from Ari, not much from Malvin. I actually thought Malvin's idea was interesting for the preggers challenge. It just ended up pretty awful. Still, would have liked to see the other weirdness he could have drummed up. Mitchell, of course, deserved the boot. I love the show, but I wish they'd spend a little more time looking at the clothes. After all that build up, we get a quick glimpse of end results. And then 10 minutes of for shame.

You need to be able to defend your work, though. When grilled by Heidi and the judges, Ari and Malvin folded under the pressure and came off as being weak. I'm sorry, but if you're going to put your dress out there, you need to be able to defend IT and your skill as a designer. They totally deserved to go.

I also LOVED that, from the same team, Ra'Mon WON the challenge and Mitchell got booted. The fact that Heidi and the judges were able to separate the contributions of the two designers and make those decisions is fantastic. Mitchell was easily one of the worst designers that the show has ever had on any of the seasons.

I wasn't a fan of that green dress. Really confused as to why the judges liked it to be honest. At any rate, I wouldn't bag on Mitchell too much. I don't think he is a bad designer. Can't sew? Most definitely. Can't follow through on his design? Most definitely. Annoying as f*ck? Oh god, yes.

I didn't care for the green dress either, but I was really impressed that he was able to whip that out in about 2 hours without ANY help from Mitchell.
Judas, you watch THAT? Is your wife tying you down while doings so or something?
*steps up to the plate to defend Judas*

This is a show about talent. Real talent. Sure, there is the usual back-stabbing of reality shows but it is all derived from the very fast pace nature of the show. Most challenges are finished in 1-2 days. That's getting the challenge, designing, buying material, making the garment, fitting the garment and showing the garment. Pretty amazing what they come up with on a budget and time constraint.

My wife got me into it, yes. She raved about it, so I sat down to watch the 3rd or 4th episode of the first season and was hooked. It's really all about the creative process under pressure, and it's amazing what some of these people come up with. It's fast paced and incredibly entertaining, and the hosts/judges are perfect for the format. Indeed, Tim Gunn seems like an incredibly cool guy.

I love this show without shame.

His commentary is always spot on. I'm constantly amazed that designers don't listen more to what he says.

Well, I love Top Chef, so I can't really bitch that much. The wife loves this and Tim Gunn, but I was surprised Judas loved it. Maybe I should pay attention to my wife. But then again, she'll try to make me watch Trinny and Susanna right after...
As of now I think Shirin, Chris and Ra'mon are front runners. I also really like Johnny's designs, although his crying spell pretty much made me write him off as a personality. I understand he's vulnerable due to the meth addiction, but that whole segment really put me off on him.

Yup. There was even one woman who thought that he was going to be a front runner. He was interesting personally and conceptually. I can't say the same for many of the other designers.

The thing with Mitchell is that he was creative director of a fashion line, so yeah he has an eye for what makes a good design. Unfortunately, he is not a designer. He can't sew for shit and that's a crucial skill for this occupation.

I know, it almost always goes down in flames when they don't listen to Tim.

I didn't think it was that great, either, but I think the judges probably appreciated seeing an avant-garde look that wasn't a big poofy dress with a high neckline like every other group seemed to do. And he definitely deserved the win just for churning out both of those looks pretty much on his own.

We finally caught up on last week's episode last night. This is a really talented crop of designers this year, and I'm honestly torn as to who I think will eventually win this. I'm leaning towards Chris, though.

They mentioned the material he used and the dye job. Neither of which looked amazing to me, but perhaps in person it came off better.

The fact that he whipped that dress out in a really short period of time was pretty impressive, though. If nothing else, it looked pretty well-made. I suspect that the judges based at least SOME of their positive opinion on those facts.

No big shock with Johnny getting the axe last night. I love how even Tim ripped into him for blatantly lying about what happened with the red dress.

Chris should have won, but second place isn't all that bad.
Chris is a clear fave. He's the underdog in terms of not having been classically trained, he is creative and always pushes the boundaries, and just seems like a nice guy. Althea is talented, but unlikeable. Also, is she a giant? She was towering over the others. Ra'mon is solid. I think Carol Hanna (sp?) and Shirin will wound out the top 4.

I liked the coat. It clearly stood out as unique and was well crafted. I'm okay with her winning over Chris for that garment.

Good riddance Johnny. I like drama as much as the next , but he was too much with all the lying and the crying. Just sew and do it well.
No big loss with the last two folks getting the boot.

What is up with Chris? His taste level has shit the bed!

Shirin throwing a hissy fit turned me off her. It sucks that you got the short end of the stick, but as Tim would say "Make it work!" That's the challenge of being on the show.

I don't really have any faves. I do like Gordana, even though the judges keep saying she's too safe. Reminds me of the criticism they kept giving Uli, who made fabulous clothes. Irina's annoying, but can sew and design. Carol Hannah is a front runner, with Althea as a possible contender for final four. Nicolas can only really make costumes, and Logan and Chris seem to be dropping off the radar.

Ho hum season so far. No one is really pushing the envelope the way past winners have.

ah fuck, forgot to watch this last night. Who got the boot?
Epherson. The challenge was to take the wedding dresses from divorcees and turn them into something fabulous. Epherson started making a dress that "used as little of the wedding dress as possible". Tim reminded him of the challenge, so he created something that used as much of the wedding dress as possible. Basically, he missed the point of the challenge.

Shirin got a fussy woman who had very little fabric on her wedding dress to work with and who expressed wanting a dress that Cher would wear, complete with a feather headdress. Luckily, Shirin did not comply with this request.
It has been kind of blah this season. However, I won't miss it or Models of the Runway. Kojii is the bestest. Thought Logan was going home last night. One thing - the show would do better by the contestants if the assignments were clearer, I think.
Well, I was not expecting that. Chris is in the bottom 3 weeks in a row and his outfit was labeled classless and unoriginal, yet Shirin gets the boot? Sure, she made a prom dress from hell, but it was better than silver hot pants.

Still don't have a favorite designer. There really are no big standouts both in design and personality.

What the fuck is up with Chris? He was running away with this season for the first 6 episodes; now, he's putting out absolute shit. As much as I like the guy, HE should have gone last night...NOT Shirin.

Also, Logan is one of the most blah designers that they've ever had on this show. He's coasting by on pure mediocrity: not good enough for acclaim, not bad enough to be singled out.
Absolutely - Christopher seems like a total sweetie, who was doing really well in the beginning. But he's been in the bottom for three weeks running - time for him to go. I was totally surprised that Shirin was sent packing.

In other news - thank god Gordana had immunity! Love her.
Xtina up in that. Diva, you know this was my favorite ep of the season just because of her appearance. ""Xt, you are beautiful, no matter what they say...." I really like how most of the people on the show, aside from a few, seem totally nice and get along. At this point, I'm rooting for Carol Hannah because she has talent and a lot of name. And I like Gordana's output too. I guess top three for me would be CH, Gord, and Althea. I think the remaining dudes are just not as talented as the ladies. Christopher pretty much has to be gone next week - unless he knocks something out of the (Bryant) park. I semi-liked Logan's look this week. Or maybe I just love his model, Kojii. But his look, while nutty, was certainly more interesting than the other two bottoms. I really think the designers are pretty good, actually. But I think the show has suffered due to its network move somehow. The challenges feel off - not as interesing. And sometimes the designers get confusing directions. Still, go Kojii.

Was nice to have Nina back this week. "It was Taste Less." She made it two words. Awesome.
Bullshit. Chris deserved the boot, not that hot little Jewish shorty. Chris's outfit was the worst of the season and that's three weeks in a row for him.

And someone needs to deck Irina pronto. What a bitch.

How in the fuck did Chrisopher survive another week????? I'm actually calling the credibility of this season into question, now.
If you read the fine print, the producers have votes in addition the judges. They probably think he makes for good TV.
Oh, come the fuck ON! Look, Christopher seems like a perfectly nice guy, but this is now the FOURTH week he's been in the bottom, compared to Nicolas, who has designed some fairly solid stuff, with the occassional blip here and there. I'm calling shenanigans.

To his credit, Chris WAS one of the front-runners for the first half of the season. His bed-shittage over the past 4 weeks is inexcusable, though....giving him a 'pass' just because he started out so strong is the wrong call.
Well to be fair, Nicolas missed the challenge completely. Chris got the challenge, but his taste level is yet again questionable.

I'm amazed that Logan is still in there, to be honest. He's been a big NOTHING on this season so far.
Yeah. He hasn't done anything great, but he hasn't done anything truly terrible. Well, except for those pants.

I think last night showed us Bryant Park. Irina, Carol Hannah, and Gordana are top 3. Althea manages to just hang in the middle. The boys have not been able to match the ladies (which I have to say is refreshing this year).

Agreed totally on the FINAL THREE. I'd like to see Gordana win the whole thing, but Irina's just got too much momentum going at this point.
I'd love to see Gordana take the win over Irina. Of course, that's just based on personality, which Bryant Park doesn't give a crap about. Irina's the best designer there, even if she is a bitch. But I'm so glad they loved Gordana's dress - she's so cool.

Yeah, Logan's pointless - he started off somewhere in the middle of the pack and has been circling the drain ever since. Why is he even here?

Also, Milla Jovovich drove me nuts last night. STOP with the crazy hand waving theatrics.
I'm honestly starting to think that Christopher and Logan are there more for their looks then anything else. The shows primary demographic is women and gay men. So that might explain a lot...

I agree Irina is consistently the best designer. She's incredibly cocky and never has a kind word to say about any of the other designers. Nevertheless, she is kinda hot.
