DVD Ripping....Region 2.....help

Alright so a while back I went out and bought myself a full 1080p 52 inch Samsung tv and a PS3. Blu-rays look great and so ddo the upconverted DVDs but theres a slight problem. I have a handful of region 2 DVDs but I can't play them in the PS3. I have heard if you copy them you can undo the region coding and switch it over to NTSC. So is there a free DVD ripping program out there that would suit me? I literally only need it for the Phantasm series, the Hitcher, they Live and Dog Soldiers.

If you can still find them, DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink are your friends. The other thing is the PAL encoding, but I think the PS3 handles that already. When I had the "Spaced" R2 discs, I did exactly what you're trying to do so a friend could watch them, and she came back to me and said, "It won't play on my DVD player because it has some kind of PAL problem, according to the screen." Ironically, I was able to play the disc on my son's portable DVD player, as it display PAL output--probably because it already had a screen attached to it.

No the PS3 doesn't play anything PAL. I tried a region 0 PAL disc and it didn't work. It actually said PAL not supported. But thanks anyway.

So nothing huh? Well thanks anyway. It's weird because I remember a few years ago people would talk about easily switching over region 2 to region 1 and PAL to NTSC with a dvd burner and a simple program.

DVD Shrink fixes the Region encoding issue, but I've yet to see anything easy for the PAL to NTSC conversion (free, that is).

Fortunately for me, my DVD player (which is also a portable) has no issues with PAL.

You know what, just for the record, in case any Mac people come across this, I'm gonna say use Mac the Ripper. Works 98% of the time.
