Blu-Ray Abbreviation

I have been seeing more and more people use the abbreviation BD for Blu-ray discs. Does it throw anyone else off as much as me? It seems to me that BR would have been a much more marketable and easier flowing abbreviation.

Did it simply come about as a shorthand for Blu-ray Disc or Blu Disc? Was it a concerted effort to not label them BR?

BD rhymes (as do CD and DVD) and BR doesn't so it wins. Q.E.D.

You've opened a can of worms. There's also the folks that prefer the term Blu-Ray media. Do what makes you happy, as long as you don't call it Blue-Ray.

I believe it was always intended to be BD. "Blu-ray" is basically one word (albeit hyphenated). So, just like DVD is the first letter of each word from its name, BD is the first letter of each word from its name. If it would have been Blu Ray, they probably would have called it a BRD.

That. Everytime I get instructions from distributors on making reskins they INSIST that it be spelled "Blu-ray." So BD stands for "Blu-ray Disc."

Plus BD sounds better than BR.

BR is the sound you make when you are freezing. Brrrrrrrr ....

But how are we supposed to know you're saying "blue" and not "blu"? God! This technology is too confusing, I give up movies.
