John Steakley - only two novels?

I remember around the time John Carpenter's Vampires was coming out I decided to check out the book ($ and all). Loved it, and ended up reading Steakley's only other novel, Armor, and loved that as well.

Two questions: why did he only write the two? And what's the significance of the characters Jack Crow and Felix showing up in both novels?

Considering the novels take place hundreds of years apart, I thought it would have been interesting for Steakley to continue the trend and write them into a period piece, like a pirate or old west novel.

Guy is just not prolific I guess.

Here's his official unnofficial site: http://johnsteakley.com/faq.html

Apparently has four short stories published and is currently working on Armor 2.

I've seen his website before, it's just strange that Armor has been relatively forgotten about in people's sci-fi lexicon. It's a great companion piece to Starship Troopers and, now, Halo and Gears of War.

Any theories on the use of Crow and Felix? Anyone read these books and love them like I do?

Armor is one of my favorites; I'm always amazed that given how long it's been since it was originally published that there seems to be a lone copy usually avalable at most book stores.

I'm surprised that Armor hasn't ever been optioned for a movie. Especially seeing all the buzz for a Halo movie.

Armor is a great one. But I think that website is optimistic, because I seem to recall it saying the same thing about 6-7 years ago.

And I agree about optioning the book into a film. Surprising.
