An intriguing project, IMO. For one thing, it avoids the reboot cheat of covering the character's past but keeping everything contemporary: It's actually set in 1976 during the bicentennial celebration (like Andrew Kevin Walker's unproduced screenplay Red, White, Black & Blue). A crime drama focusing on McClane's history as a NYC cop was a concept I would have preferred to the first DIE HARD sequel in 1990, and the original Roderick Thorp novel (The Detective) is along the same lines.

Is this just terrorist action stuff? Does anyone know more about the story?

Bought and read #1 yesterday. Pretty interesting so far. A LOT of character setup-- weaving together a half-dozen scenes and characters, with McClane and his partner just sort of bookending the whole thing.

I enjoyed the mean portrait of '70s NYC they painted. The art works for me, and the dialogue seems just fine.

$4 cover price, though. Sadface.

Man, I just looked at the price of that hardcover again. I should've just held out for that... but I do this for YOU PEOPLE.

I really liked it. All the new characters were really interesting, like the crooked cops, and that Walden guy who I hope is going to be the evil mastermind. I can't wait to see what their plan is. I also liked McClane chasing down that pickpocket and punching him out. "Police brutality!"

I was surprised they made McClane a Vietnam vet. He seemed a little too young for that. Also liked the American Century vibe I get from it - definitely a good thing.
