IL-2 Sturmovik: Birds of Prey

I might have missed a thread on this, someone'll correct me i'm sure - but man I used to love this game on the PC.

It's stunning on consoles. I don't know how they did it, the demo went live recently for PS3 (and i'm assuming 360 too) and it's beautiful. Handles wonderfully and has all the realism options that turned me onto the original.

Bullets tearing up your wings, bombers engines catching fire and oil splatter. It's harsh. Satisfyingly so.

Any takers?

Sounds cool, I may have to check this out, but I can never do flying games for shit.

There's an arcade mode by default which gives you all the fancy things that most flight games give you by default - 3rd person, infinite ammo, target tracking and generally the ability to fly against reasonable physics.

Simulator mode locks you in the cockpit view, doesn't mark or lead your targets with little reticules and causes all kinds of wonderful stalling problems if you try to fly like a manic. It's not exactly Ace Combat though, it's pretty damn realistic on arcade - but give the demo a whirl and it'll be a good example if it's the kind of game for you.

Yeah, I'm a flight sim junkie, loved the PS3 demo, will probably pre-order.
