CHUD Album of the Month - Page 2

Mick Harvey did a really cool collection of Serge Gainsborough songs sung in English by assorted vocalists. But I've got a different album in mind.
If I'm not too late, I'd like to get in on this. I'll try to listen to the Rainbow/Supertramp asap. Trivia: Supertramp was my first concert ever as a wee lad.

RE: a covers album.

I can think of a couple that have merit. Go for it, just justify the choice.

Man, I sure was hoping. I was about to have a crisis of faith with you.

I'm in too.

There are quite a few people who signed up for this that haven't participated in the Rainbow/Supertramp thread yet. Just because a new selection is out there doesn't mean that a thread is dead, however; go ahead and post your comments when you get to them.

With that being said: Jeb, go ahead and roll on your two albums if you want.
My plan is to put them up tomorrow (among other things, I'm trying to edit the logorrhea of an introduction I wrote up); don't see any advantage in jumping the gun.

Should I date the thread title or otherwise indicate that it follows after the previous one? Or does that matter?

Oh, and Buck Dharma? Dude: "Hot Rails To Hell."

Just name it in a similar fashion to mine. I'd leave the date off of the title in order to keep it more timeless, but I'd throw a date in the first post.

RE: BOC - There are far too many quality BOC songs that feature fantastic guitar work from the mighty Buck Dharma. 'Cultosaurus Erectus' is probably my favorite album of theirs, but my favorite song is ASTRONOMY off of 'Secret Treaties'; I had to go with that.

Forgive my presumptuousness but I'd like to nominate myself on the next go around, I have two choices waiting to go.
Same here. I'll wait Judas's call.

I've got an idea for my two as well, so if I could be after Dragon and Martin that'd be swell.

It's not my call, it's Jeb's. Whoever is currently presenting albums gets to pick the next Chewer. Ideally, the selection of the next presenter is based upon contributions to the current discussion.

Jeb?
Guys, I'm on the road, and only have a minute here. Let me read over and post a choice tomorrow. I'll also toss in a few comments to the Sinatra/Lobos thread.
Is it too late for me to sign up? This sounds like fun.

There's nothing to sign up for, Ali Just listen to the albums, have fun, and contribute to the threads. Welcome aboard!
Cool. I'm going to have until Monday to listen to the two new albums due to travel, but can't wait to contribute.

You aren't just limited to the current thread, Ali. All threads are fair game for the life of this project.
I'm having a bitch of a time narrowing down my choices, so I'd actually like to go later rather than sooner.

I had a couple of good ideas, but had trouble finding some of my slightly more obscure choices on lala.com, so I've been forced to rethink. Anyone else run into this?
Wait. Does it have to absolutely be on lala.com?
Thread Starter
Not necessarily. It just has to be obtainable SOMEWHERE by LEGAL means: lala, youtube, iTunes, etc.
Nope, but I understood it should be something that can be found on some legal streaming site or YouTube so that people don't have to obtain anything via The Dark Arts.

Edit: beaten
Free is obviously going to engender more discussion, though.
I might have mentioned this before but I go with imeem for my free streaming music site. Lala's one-time free play thing is kind of a drag.
Well, it's on Itune, and some of the songs on Youtube, so there's that. Will inquire more...
I was just going to mention imeem. Grooveshark too, though it's much more difficult to navigate and/or link to from a thread.
I completely forgot about immem. It's one there. Saved! Thanks Eyeball!

Credit where credit is due: Even though it doesn't look like it, I totally mentioned Imeem before Nicholas did two posts up from my mention. I no longer need the weirding module, 'cause I can warp TIME, motherfuckers.

Um....yeah, so thank Nicholas, not me.
I also have two choices ready to go. Sorry I haven't contributed in the current thread, I've only just had a chance to listen to the Sinatra and Los Lobos and I'm still working on my thoughts.
OK, for the next one...

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot (to whom I still owe an album exchange) was the first person after myself to volunteer for this project, so I think you should go next... IF at least one of your choices is fairly contemporary.

Judas and I both reached back a few years for ours, and I think the next pairing should bring things more up to date.

So, WTF, if your pairing meets that criteria, I think you should go next. If not, anyone else have something that would fit?
They're both from the 80's. That cool?
Well, since no one's objected, I'd say go ahead, and post yours Friday, or as soon after that as you're ready.

Maybe the various candidates for the next one after that (I remember Dragon Ma and a couple others) should indicate if they have anything even more up-to-date than that.
I'll have mine ready for Friday, the 18th.
Sorry, mine were both from the sixties and seventies.
Well, I was just tossing out an opinion: that since Judas and I went back aways, maybe for the sake of variety we'd see if anyone was trying to advocate for something truly new.

But that's hardly a "rule", it was just a thought. I'm looking forward to what WTF and DM have to offer, regardless of when they were released.
Dupe post. Must be time for bed.
Mine will both almost certainly be from the 90s or the aughts, but I'm still trying to narrow it down.
I've got one from last year and one from the late 70s.
I'm very down for this. Need to catch up on the first entries first though.
I have 4 albums from the 90s, and while one is a sure thing, the other choice is debated on my side. I guess I'll go with the feel at the moment I really have to choose.

Welcome aboard, joey

As a side note to everyone: Participation in the current threads is necessary to getting selected to put forth your own selections. Jeb's thread is a little light on discussion at the moment.
Let's stop with the begging, folks. Let the selection process flow naturally. Whiskey Tango knows what he's doing, I'm sure.
Forgive me for being eager. Although it would be nice to have some contemporary stuff as well as all these golden oldies.
I'll give you guys a head start for Friday, 09/18/09. 80's guitar noise ahoy!

'The Days of Wine and Roses' (1982) - The Dream Syndicate
'Isn't Anything' (1988) - My Bloody Valentine
post #96 of 356
And yeah, I am still working on Jeb's picks. Enjoyed both immensely.

WTF: If you can, please make your thread for your selections. I'm probably going to listen to at least ONE of them today.
Sorry for the delay Judas. That was harder than I'd expected.
Who's got picks ready for the next round?
I've got my picks and I've found them on Lala. Just trying to work out the theme, so I should have stuff ready for next week. However mine can wait if people are desperate to get theirs across.
