WET - Demo Out Now

It's like Kill Bill and Crank had a baby. The demo is an absolute fuckton of fun like Stranglehold with a lot more panache and lot more craziness, but the Beserker level and the highway chase are phenomenal. It actually makes QTEs kind of not suck, a little.

God dammit, i needed to decide between this or ultimate Alliance 2! (because the Persona psp remake was already a must get this month)
Better try the demo...isnt this Elisha Dushku voicing the main character in this game?

Well, maybe MUA2 will suck and I'll get this instead...or cave in and get both.

The beginning of the demo almost made me turn it off, but after you get through the tutorial parts it's absolutely fucking fun. Great, another game to play through.

Damn you Alex, dont bring me down with you!
Too much fun. Way better than it deserves to be.
I just queued this up to download. I can't wait to try it out. The gameplay videos for this made me hope it would be fun to play. Glad to hear that at least the demo is worthwhile.

God damn you videogame studios and your insistence on releasing shit during a three week window in fall. Looks like I know what I'm downloading when I get back from work* tonight.

* or as I like to call it 'time away from videogames'.

I feel the same way. The individual elements of this game are pretty unremarkable. We've seen all this kind of stuff before, even down to the exploitation vibe that showed up earlier this year in House of the Dead: Overkill. But the pacing, the action, and the soundtrack all came together for a pretty entertaining 10-15 minutes. I have no idea if it's sustainable for a whole game, but it's definitely worth keeping an eye on now.

Agh. I deleted this after an entirely unconvincing time with the tutorial and the gameplay mechanics. Redownload ahoy!

Yeah try it again. The beginning is absolute shit, everything in it seems to have been done before. But when you finally get into the big battle and the freeway chase things pick up enormously. It's just so ridiculous and over the top that it's hard not to love it.

I think the game won me over when the "Wet" sequence started.
Also loved the "old film with scratches and bad quality" look during the cutscenes.

Someone on the WET development team must be a big fan of the anime 'Black Lagoon'. Rubi is so similar to Revy that they might as well be clones.

Anyway, liked the demo a whole lot, but I think this one is going to land on the side of 'rental' for me. I like the gameplay (which I would rather call 'Total Overdose with a nice rack' than compare it to 'Stranglehold'), but I don't see it lasting a very long time and being more than "shoot these things in a flashy manner".

Holy crap, I didnt realize that, and I own ALL of "Black Lagoon".

Is the demo X360 only? Mine RRODed, and all I have for demos is the PS3. I could not find WET yesterday, though I'd like to give it a whirl.
I played this demo last night, and I have to agree with a lot of people here. The tutorial section was boring and frustrating, but once I got past that, it was much more fun. The highway chase was the best thing about the demo, but jumping/sliding/flipping around while shooting people in flashy fashion also made for good times. However, I'm not sure how it would hold up for an entire game. It's definitely jumped up a couple spots on my radar though.

Loved the demo, from the pulp-y look of it to the retro pulp feel of it (gotta crack a smile everytime she takes a swig)

And when she went into total balls-out insanity mode, holy superlative!!

fun things to do:
Wall run off a human, then jump off of him and shoot him
spin around on a pole while shooting people
SLIDING WHILE SHOOTING PEOPLE BEHIND YOUR HEAD!!!!!!

My only complaint is that you can't control how long a slide is, or else I'd be sliding and shooting people backwards all day

I kind of want a poster of the title screen too.
Definitely reminds me of Stranglehold unfortunately so do the graphics which are outdated. I do like the 70's grindhouse vibe and over-the-top characters though. The game gets kind of repetitive pretty fast but it is fun in short bursts. I could see myself picking it up for under $20 next year.
I don't know how, but this still managed to be fun even though everything about the game seems kind of sloppy and unfinished and I found myself fighting with the controls a lot.

It took a while to figure out when your jumping/sliding animations would end and you could start your next acrobatic move. There's almost no feedback to tell you which objects you can simply autoclimb, and which require jumping. The secondary aiming reticle during regular play and the primary reticle during the highway chase are both too small and imprecise to control. The "Wet" sequence was stylistically cool, but I *really* felt like I was just flailing randomly there.

But goddamn if it wasn't fun to leap Neo-stlye from a car, over a flaming wreck, land on the badguy's car, and lop various parts of his anatomy off. Rental for sure.

I yanked the 360 out of it's dusty box for this demo. Then I find that I've got to be a gold member to download! I'm in Australia, is this the same for US regions?

The PSN e-mail I got today says the demo is available. I haven't checked for it yet, though.

Yep. They changed a bunch of stuff related to Gold/Silver accounts recently, but I think you had to be Gold to get demos before, at least on this side of the pond.
I thought it was just first-access for Gold for the first week or two of release and then Silver could get them too? Or am I just making shit up again?
Silver should still be able to download it. Might take up to a week though. So i guess this Tuesday or Wednesday it should be available to everyone.
The PSN update this week was delayed a day (for some technical reason) but is up now. I downloaded the demo for PS3 today but have not had a chance to play it yet (was playing Batman instead).

Naw, I think you are right with this one. Just Microsoft adding more incentives for people to purchase a Gold subscription.

I'd download it on my PS3, but with my ISP I have un-metered 360 downloads.

UK deal. 360-only I'd assume. £17.95. That's a pretty good price!
Thanks for the heads up, I just pre-ordered. I was undecided whether or not to buy it but for that price you can't go wrong.
Anyone else playing this? It's pretty much lived up to my expectations, limited as they are.

Until now, I'm completely stuck on one arena fight at the start of Chapter 8. There's a mini-gun guy that appears right at the start and if I concentrate on taking him out, everything else kills me. The trouble is I'm dying so quickly I can't even tell what's killing me.
Probably going to wait for it to hit bargain bin - everything I've read so far about the Gauntlet-esque stages and the QTEs kinda makes me cringe.
In all fairness the QTE's are few and far between but very fun.

It's not the "Holy Shit this is awesome!" type that you get in 'Ninja Blade' but it's certainly not Indigo Prophecy shit either.
I didn't even know this game was out. I'll pick it up next month when it hits the bargain bin.
This game is pretty fun. Simple and rental-worthy only, but fun nonetheless.

I would definitely buy a soundtrack from this game, though.
Finished it earlier and I really enjoyed it, but only because I didn't pay full price for it, it's too short to justify that.
I held the box at Best Buy several times this weekend, but I just couldn't justify paying full price knowing it's short and that there are so many AAA titles coming shortly. If it drops to $30 I'll be all over it.

Can we call an official moratorium on tiny collectable scavenger hunts for a few years? Unless the reward is worth the effort, and it never is, I genuinely could not give a flying fuck.

In any case, as expected this is a $20 must buy, but the problems outlined n that review do not buy $60 of forgiveness. Good one, Alex.
Agreed. The controls are pretty much what ruined it for me, but they're probably not unplayable - they just seem more frustrating after playing some really rather well designed games.

Soundtrack's ace too. Definitely agree there.

Thanks guys. By the way, just found some of the soundtrack up on Youtube here- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6T65O...8D1649&index=5

Listen and love!
I grabbed this with the Amazon deal last week, and I really enjoy it. It's not great, it's not terrible, but it is a ton of fun. I agree completely on the excellence of the soundtrack. My niece is in love with the Rage portions. She would jump up on the couch and sing "Lost controoooooool" over and over and over. When this drops to $30 I think everyone should start snagging it.
