My wife just found some old video footage of our daughter that was shot years ago, and when it was shot some in-camera effects were used. They are really bad looking, and I'd like to see the footage straight w/o the effects. I doubt this is possible, but does anyone know if I could use after effects, or something to remove the optical effects leaving only the natural footage.

Can you give any more details? Is this digital video? VHS video?
What kind of effects are we talking about?
Do you still have access to the original camera (or at least know the name/model of the camera) and the name of the effect(s) used?
My best guess is that the original images are not recoverable, but depending on the effect you (well, maybe not you, but someone) might be able to partially reverse engineer it if enough about the effect/s are known.
