Sorta NSFW, I guess, for shirtless white trash dudes.

Wow, I could almost sense the meth even over the internet.

GOD damn. Let's all blame Rob for this link now.

The anthropologist in me is always AMAZED when I go to the Wal-Mart Supercenter back home (my mom's a manager there, occasionally I'll hitch a ride there to borrow her car if I don't rent one while visiting). The weirdest shit I've ever seen there was a guy proposing to his fiancee - he was all decked out in black and turquoise western wear (save for a belt) and when he knelt down to offer her the ring, half of his greasy, hairy buttcrack (which was already making a pilgrimage to the center of his back) was revealed to everyone who turned to look at the spectacle. I'd give anything to travel back in time with my fucking camera on that day.

I, for one, feel it's in all our best interests to keep you away from the time machine.

I look forward to the unwed teenage mother section of the site.

No, it's okay if they're white people.

One of the guys was Mexican(?).

I refer to them as "Wal-MARTIANS". I'm hoping for a War of the Worlds type ending real soon.

Ladies and Gentlemen welcome to what my friends and I call 'Merica.

I just noticed the locations...

I didn't know. I didn't know it had spread so far!
I'm pretty stoked none of the pictures posted thus far are from NC.

Also I don't really get how people can happily defend the place - I'd normally say that people were at least being somewhat hyperbolic in their disdain for a store but this place really is like a Bosch painting but with more rampant obesity and despair. Like, I even get embarrassed saying that my mom works for them but she's been steadily pissing me off more and more over the past two months so now it's almost like an insult.
What do you mean by "defend the place"?

Like justify why they shop there, or is there a group of people trying to study and preserve the cultural richness that it embodies?

Every time I see one of these discussions on the internet someone pops up to say that the haters are just being overly sensitive or that they're being uppity.
But you are being uppity.

That's OK, I'm just trying to understand. :-)

It's been several months since I've been to a wal-mart. But the times I do go, I'm reminded why I don't like the place. The customers are somewhat annoying. However, the cashiers mostly suck at every wal-mart I've been to.
I went to Wal-Mart once. Never again.

Target FTW.

That's nice. However Super Wal-Marts are almost everywhere. Super Targets are not as abundant. So, when you're on vacation and need items, one finds S Wal-Marts rather easily.
There's nothing to defend. Except crap is dirt cheap there. That's it.

For my work I had to put together a forum on Wal-Mart. Got Al Norman, THE anti-Wal-Mart activist and the VP of Ethics of Wal-Mart, Inc. to come talk. I also had to research and put together a 350 page reader on pros and cons.

I won't shop there unless I absolutely have to, though the nearest Wal-Mart is far and hard to get to from my place. Seeing these pics always leaves me conflicted -- on the one hand, being poor must be hell / poor people have to buy stuff too....on the other hand, people need to freakin' clean up and learn some couth because UGH.

If you can afford to drive to Wal Mart to purchase goods, you can afford a whole t-shirt.

Thats the motto I live by.

I grew up broke as fuck and still feel kind of ashamed for going to one of these places. I was probably that stereotypical towheaded chubby kid with the dirty t-shirt and the Kool-Aid mustache, but that's how we rolled.

She should be in some sort of traveling troupe of obese gymnasts. Tricks include: the backwards 180 remote reach, double down doritos duster, and left arm squeeze and squeal heart attack special.

And ya know - I see these pictures and such and it just makes me wonder what sort of Twilight-Zoney town I live in where my local Wal-Mart NEVER (well, RARELY ever) has that sort of awfulness on display. There's only one other grocery store in town and it's purely a grocery store - Wal-mart is basically the only place locally to get everything else Wal-Mart sells, so it may help that the ENTIRE TOWN (from the high class to the low) shops there. But it's a fairly pleasant place and if I didn't know about the abhorrent ethical practices I wouldn't have a single problem at all shopping there.

It's just hanging there like some diseased cock.

At first I thought "Huh, guess Wal-Mart didn't really catch on in Nevada", then I remembered that it's 90% desert.
I'd guess that this map is also a pretty accurate representation of the areas with the most suburban sprawl.
