Heading to Seattle the weekend of the 11th

Well, it's exactly what the title says it is. I'm heading to Seattle that weekend. Why? Why not? I've never been before and the Northwest was always a place I wanted to go to. My question to you fine folks of the ever-rainy city is: what does one do there? Any good restaurants, cinemas, etc, that can keep a guy traveling solo occupied for a few days?

Also, are there any hotels or other accommodations that are easy on the wallet but in a nice place? Obviously, I'm looking around on-line, but I thought i would ask all of you, the people who live there, what the good places are.

And, if for whatever reason, Seattle chewers want to meet up, that's cool, too. Always enjoy meeting fellow Chewers.

Thanks.

Can't really help you with hotels/accomodations since I've never needed one.

But the Landmark Theater is generally THE chain around Seattle for a nice variety of films that don't play at the multiplexes (though they play the big movies just fine).

Looks like the Egyptian Theater's midnight movie that weekend will be... Purple Rain!

The Seattle Cinerama is playing Inglourious Basterds. But with all the other nice theaters opening up lately, the Cinerama has lost a bit of its luster. That, and they aren't doing their yearly 70mm film series yet.

There's the Experience Music Project at Seattle Center (which also has a real IMAX theater) which now also has the Science Fiction Museum. That's one of those places I've still yet to visit, so I can't really recommend it from any experience. But it sounds cool.

I've only recently started going around trying to find good places to eat lately. There are places like the Kingfish Cafe. A really good sandwich place called Paseos. Some friends and I have been going around Seattle looking for all the ramen places we can find. A lot of those are in the International District, which has tons of places for Asian cuisine that I've never been.

Then there are places in the Capitol Hill area. That's where my family's convenience store is located. Should you be in the area, definitely stop by for a drink/snack on the house. Nexus-7 stopped by on his trip to Seattle. It was a pleasure to meet him.

On behalf of my brother I have to suggest The Black Bottle if your looking for something to eat.

Thanks for the suggestions, gentlemen, I shall definitely be hitting up the Landmark to catch Purple Rain. It played in Brooklyn a few weeks ago and I missed it and have been kicking myself for doing so ever since.

nooj, what's the name of the convenience store, in case I find myself in the area?

Store's name is J's Quick Stop. Nearest to the corner of Bellevue and Pine.

Hey guys, especially you nooj. Seattle's a great place, had a blast. The weather was shockingly spectacular. I had no idea Seattle had beaches, but I went to one. Sorry I didn't get by your, nooj. Next time, and oh yes, there will be a next time, I shall.

Glad you had a great time. I ended up being busy finishing up a short film I was working on, so it's all good. Did you make it to Purple Rain?

Your visit coincided with a string of really nice weather.

Oh yes, there was Purple Rain. I think seeing it in a semi-crowded (or crowded) theater late at night is the only way to watch that movie.

And yeah, weather was gorgeous. It was apparently shitty here all weekend. Odd that...

Yeah, those late night movies are lots of fun. I've seen Raiders of the Lost Ark, Serenity, Jurassic Park, Independence Day, and Starship Troopers there. The only problem is that the sound in that theater gets really shrill for these older movies. I sometimes bring my earbuds to slightly muffle the audio for certain scenes.
