Is FX the best cable channel right now?

I was just thinking... it goes right from Rescue Me to Sons of Anarchy next week, then we'll get It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia later this month.

Edit: I heard that Peter Tolan is already writing another drama for FX after Rescue Me.

HBO is decent but FX right now, at least in my opinion, is the best.

I actually think AMC is slowly but surely getting there, Breaking Bad and Mad Men are probably two of the best shows on TV right now and they got that remake of The Prisoner which doesn't look half bad, and of course Darabont doing the Walking Dead series.

AMC has some damn good original programming, but they still lose points for the incredibly shitty way they present movies.

Around a year ago at this time when they had The Shield, Sons, and Sunny going at the same time I'd have said yes. But since then I've had to labor through seasons of Nip/Tuck and Rescue Me which are both running on fumes (though Nip/Tuck does throw in the occasional couch fucking which keeps me as a loyal viewer). Definitely glad we're getting new seasons of Sons and Sunny this month.

Everyone seems to say that Damages is quality, so it's probably my loss that I haven't given it a shot.

Hope the new Lawman show of theirs with Olyphant is a winner. Though I'm betting there will be a title change.

I'd say USA Network. Royal Pains, Burn Notice, Monk, Psych are all really solid shows (OK, the last three anyways). I heard good things about in plain sight also..

AMC's stock is rising but I'm thinking USA keeps the title for another year. 3 Years ago, I'd a said FX but the Shield is gone and as previosly mentioned. Nip\Tuck and Rescue me are on fumes.

AMC has my two favorite shows on television right now, which cancels out the umpteenth showing of Pale Rider, at least for me.

I loved FX three years ago.

I think we can all agree that FX, AMC, HBO, and even USA all trumph anything that's on regular network TV, at least it does for me. Save LOST and maybe 24 there's nothing (drama wise) on network TV that i even bother to watch or look forward too.

I wish I could laugh and say "no, of course not, HBO is the best".... Sadly the days of Chris Albrecht are gone and the new HBO lady is the equivillant of the sci fi (er, SyFy ) channel's Bonnie Hammer

HBO's lineup next year promises to be stellar, at least on paper: Treme, the Scorcese Atlantic City series, Song of Ice & Fire and The Pacific. I know I'll be a loyal subscriber again once that lineup hits.

I hope they get back on their game. The Pacific has me interested for sure, but a scorcese tv show? this strikes me as the kind of thing albrecht would never have done. pay the big bucks for a show runner in name only, someone who will most likely not be too involved with the show. someone who indeed has had no tv experience before. If there were a new david milch series then I'd be excited. They seem to specialize in stuff that is show time level these days. "Number One Ladies Detective Agency" exemplifying this trend. Choose a book, make a show. Rather than take a new untried property and give it the funds to really be magical, they make a show based on a series of mystery books read by old people.

I am not into fantasy but am curious about song of ice and fire.

While TruBlood is not quite as terrible as I assumed it would be, it speaks to the depressing direction the network seems to be taking these days (Depressing to me anyway)

In a word or two... fuck no.

HBO still rules with its unbreakable iron fist.

You're obviously not watching HBO right now.

yeah... hate to say it but USANetwork rocks the ratings.. but I'm glad all these networks are doing well.

Discovery and A&E are two more great cable channels with continual new programming.

I would throw in the Nat.Geo. Channel along with A&E and Discovery as having great programming. And lets not forget PBS which does have Nova, Nova Sciene Now, and HIstory Detectives.

All the Discovery hard working shows are getting a bit tedious, but as long as they are paying for Kerri's baby and Jamie to be Jamie I am happy.
