The Death of Bunny Munro (Nick Cave)

So, just found out about this today via the AV Club. Anyone heard anything? There's a chapter read by Cave on the AV Club, and I listened to it and I'm not sure what I think. Truth be told it reminded me a little too much of Paluhnuck (not meant as a compliment). Thing is, I love everything Cave has done except for his first novel, And The Ass Saw The Angel, which I felt was trying too hard and was way too derivative of Cormac McCarthy (minus the gorgeous prose). Anyone out there want to throw out their anticipation/reactions/whatnot. I know I came upon a thread for Cave's musical endeavors a while ago and it seems like he's not shy of love on this board.

I'm reviewing this soon as another place online. If there's demand, I'll see if I can carry that over here.

I'm expecting my copy in this week. For some reason, books are always sent on a delay.

Got this in rather late. It gets done after I finish the review for the Kevin Smith book at CHUD.

Read it, it's great. Think 'Death of a Salesman' by way of Tom Sharpe, albeit with a better and wittier writing style. A wry attack on today's sex-indulged society. Not too optimistic, but then again that's Nick Cave we're talking about.

I was also lucky to catch a book presentation here in Antwerp (Belgium) a couple of weeks ago. It was at a rather intimate theatre venue, and Cave did some reading from the book, and performed a number of songs with a reduced Seeds (Martyn Casey & Warren Ellis). He also responded to a number of mostly idiotic questions and requests. All in all a fun night.

I would love to read you review of this book, Troy. Nick Cave is one of my all time favorite performers and his writing is usually a few steps above most celebrities who try their hands at literature. I had no idea this was coming out. Thanks for the heads up.

Almost done. If everything goes right today. It should be up later at the other place.

EDIT: Done. I'll send PM links later.

I just picked this up today and I'm really enjoying it. It's nothing like 'And the Ass Saw the Angel'. It's very funny and surprisingly brisk. I get the Palahniuk comparison, but I think Cave is a much better writer and a more astute satirist.

Good to hear. I was just basing that comparison off the preview chapter I listened to. Been hearing good things about this, so I'll probably pick it up. Especially if it's an improvement over ASTA.
