The XX - XX

I've been listening to this album for what, 3 weeks now, and it's definitely the debut album of the year. I really don't know where to classify the band (a rock/pop with R&B influences maybe?), and it reminds me of Cocteau Twins, but with modern beats. It's a serious "don't miss", and a real grower, becoming quite addictive.

There's definites highlights on the album, like Infinity, VCR, Crystalised or Night Time, but there's no fat at all on this album. All great tracks.

Anyone else tried that one?

I like the one or two tracks I've heard on XM. I'll keep an ear out for them, and maybe pick up the album.

Yeah, I shoulda started a thread on it when I was REALLY obsessed with it two weeks ago, but I didn't. Great, great album, and even more impressive that they're both what, nineteen? Infinity and VCR are two big standout tracks for me, but I can listen to the entire thing without a hitch.

I listened to the first three songs, and they're pretty good. I wasn't as blown away as other people seem to be, but I haven't downloaded the whole thing yet. Probably do that tonight.

I wasn't initially, but let it decant for a week. But it's a grower.

I picked this up on as a whim off iTunes a couple weeks ago as I had a $10 gift certificate to waste. The album definitely grows on you, and its nice to listen to at work or other places where you can't rock out.

If I had to describe these guys to someone, I would say they're like a swedish (even though they're from England), minimalist Interpol, with a female vocalist reminiscent of Dolores O'Riordan from The Cranberries.

Yeah, I have a hard time describing them too. The best I can do is like a subtle R&B and dub-step Joy Division...but not as derivative.

See? That doesn't do it either.

I think the fact that they're hard to pin down speaks to their unique sound.

They're playing a sold-out show here in Atlanta right now, which I am not attending, but I did catch their in-store performance at Criminal Records earlier in the evening. Realllly good sound, guys. I never did buy the album, but I think I'll have to now.

Dunno if y'all heard, but one of the girls quit recently. They are now a trio.

Yeah, the keyboardist/guitarist quit and they're just going to continue without her. I love the fact that they don't have a drummer.

They're playing an in-store performance at Newbury Comics next month. I hate waiting in line outside with a mass of 18 year-olds only to shuffle into a store surrounded by crowded pop culture junk to watch a band, but for these guys I'm seriously considering it.

You should do it. They played a six-song set, and it was definitely worth the price of $free.99.
