No I'm not. That was pretty horrible. I do like Megan as a blonde though.

God help me, "dip the ladle" made me lol. Actually she was a pretty good sport that entire sketch.

Funny Brian Austin Green showing up, being they're broken up and all.
Other than being bummed that U2 didn't perform Magnificent, it was a decent show.
Other than the digital shorts, it seems the only time anyone talks about the sketches is when someone screws up, being not being able to keep themselves from breaking up during the otherwise miserable Debbie Downer sketch or someone saying "fuck" on live TV. Nobody seems to talk about the actual content of the sketches.
I really hope they continue to make the digital shorts as completely ridiculous as these two were.
Yeah, as much as I love The Lonely Island and their Digital Shorts, the popularity and general quality of these pre-recorded bits in comparison to the rest of the show does make a mockery of SNL's supposed raison d'etre. SNL's always been hit-and-miss, but the actual format of the show's never seemed as pointless as it does now.
I still like the non-bit parts of update. I'm pretty sure Lorne still reserves his best writers for that 5 minutes.
The digital short was good for a small chuckle...the rest so far has been FUCKING AWEFUL
post #58 of 641
Man, I thought Ryan Reynolds did pretty well tonight. His monologue was solid, not overtly great but simple and funny. It got me hopeful for a good show, but the material was just it's usual awfulness.

The second that the "Porcelain Fountains" sketch started up, you knew Scarlett would make an appearance, but it just in no way justifies them still doing those characters. Wasn't funny the first time. Granted, I thought Reynolds was hilarious in it.

Honestly, the most laughs the show got out of me was from Lady Gaga smackin' herself with her own costume when she decided to perform as Rasputin's inter-dimensonal portal. I do wonder if that whole second performance was planned as such, because it just dragged like crazy. With that and her other appearances in sketches, she may well have had more screentime than Reynolds.

I tuned out as soon as the Family Feud sketch started and Jason Sudeikis made absolutely no attempt to even look or sound like Richard Dawson.
Keenan's Charles Barkley impression was horrendous.
It seems like the SNL writers have zero faith in the host of each episode because they barely give them anything to do. It seemed like Lady Gaga had more lines then Ryan Reynolds did.

Are you sure it wasn't turrrrrible?

"Happy birthday to the ground...."

Sudeikis didn't sound like Dawson, but he had his boredom down. Only funny thing in the skit.

Some of the "So you Think You Can Dance: Criminal Version" was funny. Esp. Forte, who needs to be on more.''

Well...

I thought the Family Feud idea was pretty good, actually. You knew that they would touch on the scandal in some way, and I was optimistic when the sketch started. But, my goodness, the writing was terrible (none of the Osmonds answered "virginity" to the first question, which was pretty surprising).

I dunno - I've had occasion to revisit the first couple seasons of SNL recently, and you'd be surprised at how much of it wasn't about being live, or even about comedy. There'd be weird short films (viewer submitted, no less), filmed music videos by Eric Idle and George Harrison, the Muppets were semi-regulars, etc. It started as a much more freeform thing than what most of you grew up watching. I wouldn't hate the show for loosening the formula up again. I just wish I was as behind this cast as I'd like to be. And yeah, the writing is lazy.

Also, get off of Dickson's lawn. And he remembers when he had to WALK to school, through the snow.

I'm not sure which of the two should be more upset at the prospect. But the point was non-impressions ain't nothing new on SNL.
I chuckled quite a bit last night, which was a refreshing change. A lot of bunt singles compared to the monster home runs of old. I mean, the set up of celeb Family Feud was a no-brainer, but they didn't do anything with it. (Like the writers were just content w. the giggle-y set-up) Remember "Dysfunctional Family Feud"? A pale shadow of that.

Lord, help us--looks like the push is on to make Keenan the star. Why? I have no idea!

I still find the Obama impression offensive and unfunny. Also, you can't have Fred impersonate our Prez and Iran's. Talk about a fun link for the nutballs!
The problem with the Obama stuff is more the writing than the impression. Its like they're writing about the two different people with the same name.
There's no dignity in the impression.

Last night he was practically a shufflin' and lazy negro stereotype.

(a bit reactinary perhaps, but impression/skit rubbed me the wrong way--only way that skit could play funny to anyone but the Rush crowd, is if Obama was played with air of nobility)

Yeah, that was from the glory Phil Hartman days, wasn't it? I was pretty sure that SNL had already gone down the Family Feud/Incest road before.

I admit that I kind of loved the Norwegian cop show bit.
I don't think I laughed one time in the first 45 minutes besides the Samberg digital short.

Oh, and while he's usually on... Darrell Hammond's impression of Arnold is fucking terrible. Sounds nothing like him. I think Will Sasso's on Mad TV was 10 times better.

I really hope you're not claimin that SNL is racist against Obama, cause if you are, I don't know what show you're watching.
Any show where the guest cameos outnumber the host's appearances is always bad. I mean, ScarJo I can understand. But what did Elijah Wood or Madonna have to do with anything?

I hate Samberg's stchick and his Digital Short is everything I can't stand about him wrapped in a neat little diddy. All the impressions were terrible, but I did chuckle at Sudekis. He got the mannerisms down; the pinky sticking up holding the cue card, leaning over bored on the table, mocking the contestants for their completely off the wall suggestions... I dug it. The skit itself though went nowhere fast. Everything else was completely awful, including the news update.
Madonna has been a recurring presence for twenty-five years. Admittedly, I didn't think it was really her at first.

ScarJo (Oh, Diva!) was hilarious. Her blazing 3 min. out-funnies (to a shameful degree) the entire cast and show.
If there was a sexual disorder for bashing SNL on message boards, you guys would all have it.

It just felt like Sudeikis wasn't even trying, whereas Chase was being deliberately non-imitative for comedic effect.
Eh, better than my Richard Dawson.

Where was Madonna? I saw the new girl playing Madonna in the techno sketch, but I missed the real her I guess? Oh, and the short had be laughing with Happy Birthday ground, and the look of glee on Elijah Woods' face whilst tasering Samberg's bum.

Ha, just watched again on youtube. I need to get my prescription updated, totally thought it was one of the new girls doing a Madonna impersonation. On that note, Madonna is looking hot.
I enjoyed the short, but mostly for this expression:

Is it just me, or do the two new women look almost identical?

I guess I'd fuck the cryptkeeper then, because Madonna looked younger than Lady Gaga on Saturday.

You can take the Diva out of the Gossip Forum, but the Gossip Forum won't leave the Diva.

What? Other than both being brunette they couldn't look any more different to me.
Sudeikis' Dawson was a highlight. Simply spectacular.

Chris is right, she did look really good. I also wasn't sure that was really her until I got a good look at her, because she looked much better than she's been looking lately.
Yep, I didn't realize until later also that was really Madonna. I think she put some meat on her bones. Her face looked fuller. She did look good.
Dear lord why did they bring back Gilly...

Only bright spots were Hader's Carville (which I suddenly fear will be run into the ground) and the impression of the Diners and Drive in's guy.

I am curious to know what the original Cold Open was before Obama won the Peace Prize.
Yeah, Carville was very good. My favorite part of the show was Justin Long as McConaghey, though. Hilarious.

And of course, Regina sounded great and looked lovely.

After watching that Internet College parody ad, I'm right on board with you.

Best show in years! A Lol-a-thon!

Drew was cute, and game for anything.

The ESPN classic sketch brought the hardest laughs. It's just the kind of silly the show used to nail all the time.

Gilly is a brilliant creation, but writers don't know where to go with it. Only dud.

That fat guy had a great night. His impression of Guy what's-his-name from the Food channel was a total hoot.

Carville's Rush joke was from an old Dennis Miller bit, but still funny.

Yeah he was, I forgot about him and Abby Elliot as Anna Faris.

Both of those were pretty good.
Last skit was best. Forte's creepy old guy character always works.

Meyers desperately needs a co-anchor.
The Mac guy's McConaughey impression was aces. Laughed at the ESPN skit and James Carville. That was about it.

The Gilly skit never gets any better. Please retire it along with all the other Wiig annoying characters.

It's sad that there are several male actors with upwards of 13 hosting gigs, but Drew tops the women with 6.

These are two different people, though the weird lighting is making them both look washed out.

I did get a good laugh when he tore into that hamhock.
I gotta admit: the birds dipping the bread in the marinara sauce made me laugh out loud.

Drew looked like it was killing her trying not to laugh during that final sketch with Forte.
