Strange Tales

For some reason this seems like Marvel's counterpoint to Wednesday Comics. Lots of indie writers and artists with some funny little takes on the Marvel Universe. I enjoyed it and found it to be fun and interesting.

That Paul Pope cover is my current wallpaper.

It does feel like something I would have read in the early 80's; but in a good way.

Johnny Ryan, James Kochalka and Peter Bagge contributing almost guarantee I'll be picking this up at some point.

Johnny Ryan actually in a Marvel comic is worth it alone.

The She-Hulk story falls flat and Bagge wrote his story on autopilot.
Otherwise everything else is great. PBF version of Wolverine is hilarious. Best MODOK parody ever, which is impressive since MODOK parodies reached the oversaturation point awhile ago.

I don't know, I thought Hulk freaking out about cigarettes impinging on his civil liberties was pretty funny.

And I love the deadpan beheading of Beast in the PBF page.

My biggest laugh was in Kupperman's Sub-Mariner. "A dog? A Barrel? Ridiculous!"

Have any of you read issue 2 yet?
I will have to wait a month for my next comics shipment.

It's to the same standard but I'm sure i've read the Hulk story before?

If anything this issue made me respect the nappy wearing/cross-dressing Uatu, i'd have done the same thing* in his situation. Bugger it, i'd be doing it all the time.

*he's blatantly having a wank over She-Hulk.

I love Jonathan Hickman's piece on working for Galactus (Hickman gets so much info into a piece even when its a gag). Also, the Brother Voodoo comic coming out the week after Doctor Voodoo is pretty great.

Peter Bagge did a Spider-man story a bunch of years ago. It was a bit similar.
