Darkest of Days

What is this game?

The only thing I know about it, thanks to Alex's gamertag profile*, is that you get an achievement for punching a horse to death. This is the greatest achievement ever.

*side note: it's lame you can't look at achievements until the game is officially released. I wanted to check out the Beatles achievements.

Embargoed till tomorrow, but let's just say it's not really worth a thread.

Although I did take a video of that achievement, just because. 100 points too!

Hmm, that's too bad. The premise is so ridiculous that it could have been a lot of fun. I'll have to keep an eye on the bargain bin just so I can claim that achievement. That cracks me up.

Check this site.

EDIT: Um, nevermind, kind of useless in this instance as they don't have the Beatles achievements listed... but a good site to keep in mind for the future!

Played the demo on PC. The shooting was on a 2004 console FPS level. Cool idea, bad execution.
That's too bad. I kind of liked the premise and thought it had potential. Sort of like Timecop with lots of cool weapons and battlefields to play around on. If it isn't too atrocious I may pick it up when it gets cheap.

Jesus, the things I do for you guys. I'm still trying to push through this and am amazed at all the bugs. Twice I had game-killing bugs and had to restart from an earlier save. Like the time when I died and restarted on my last checkpoint on a bridge... which I promptly fell through. Restarted again and the same thing happened. The long loading screens just add to the experience.
I couldn't even make it through the demo.
Should have pushed this game back till next year to work out the bugs.

crazy injuns, eh? I thought society got to a point where usage of Native American was standard. I saw this kind of shit from some untalented blogger on kotaku last week, didn't expect to see it here.

Just be thankful I didn't use redskins.

I'm surprised at your snotty, racist attitude.

When I got hired I put in a good word for you to our producers at 2K Marin and marketing folks at 2K Games asking them to give you access to any events for the site.

I'll be requesting that to change when I get into work tomorrow morning.

That's fine, you prick. I got my contacts at 2K Games a long time ago without your help, and will continue to work with them regardless of your request, I'm sure.

If you're so blind that you can't see that the sentence was me poking fun at the game (which frequently calls them "injuns") then I don't know what to do.

Is this the first off-color line you've read on the site?
Yeah, Nick and company have had their fun with colorful language about natives in their podcast in the past.

I'm being an oversensitive ass about this. Irked yes, but no I will not be burning any bridges come morning...
I'm honestly much more offended that you would think that I was trying to be racist with the sentence. I would think that after writing for here so long that you guys would know that while I like to push buttons, it's all in good humor.
That was the most ridiculous reaction to your throwaway intro to the review of this game. Threatening to get you blacklisted was completely assholish of me and I'm sorry that came out. Embarassed, really.

As mentioned privately you and Russ are great video game reviewers, who add tons of value to this site. Not a whole lot of places offer well thought out and well written insights worth reading these days. I forget this is chud.com, where buttons do get pushed daily. Hell, one of my first reviews on this site had a Custer's Revenge caption.

My bad, and apologies for this unneccesary drama.

What the fuck just happened?
Mongycore got a bit savage and went on the warpath, but now he's red-faced with embarrassment.
But seriously, the even-handed treatment of native peoples in games is a big chief concern of mine.
Can I trade this game back in for some beads?

I can't wait to see the achievements for that level.

Say what you will about the shitty game, but it takes matzoh-sized-balls to do an Auschwitz level. I can't believe somebody approved that.

I either read somewhere or dreamt that there's a 9/11 level. True?
Yes, being able to to Auschwitz is cool and all, but are you able to engage in comical yet heartwarming shenanigans while there?

My time there was way too short, sadly! I thought there was going to be some elaborate escape plan but when I met with my contact there he got caught, was about to be executed, and I got guns and led everyone in a revolt. Yep...

No 9/11 level... give it 40 years.

That would have been a nice excuse to have, but I went off the fucking rails all on my own.

Alex's review and videos make me wish my gamefly account was still active. Any game that makes History Channel's Civil War game look like COD4 is almost worth some exploration.
It's okay, I ran out of puns anyway.
So, is the game going to get an Oscar nomination?
Can't wait for the first History's Atrocities dlc.
My god this seems cool. I've ALWAYS wanted a First World War/American Civil War/ POMPEI!!! videogame. Those are era's and events way too under utilized and never before seen in this generation of consoles. (i know there has been some breif civil war stuff but no big scale battles like this)

I am trying to decide if I run out and get it today, or wait till its cheaper. 60$ is alot of money but this sounds like a fantastic game.
