Assassin's Creed 2 - Page 6

It got really great reviews, and it's a giant step up from the first one. I hated the first one a lot but I pretty much adore this one. There's way more to do, and it's a really meaty game. There were quite a few raves, Kotaku seemed to like it the most and they weren't the only one. It seemed to really fulfill the potential that the first one had.

And upgrading your villa is easy Overlord. You'll wanna stop by there to pick up money every once in awhile anyways, just upgrade as you go. I got over 80 % upgraded pretty quick just through that and buying a few paintings.

The six tombs are definitely worth it. You get a nice set of armor after finishing them all, but they would be worth it all by themselves. Each tomb has unique platforming runs that feel a lot more like Prince of Persia in design. They are a nice change of pace from the outdoor environments.

The hidden symbols aren't that difficult to find since you know exactly what building each is on. The puzzles themselves aren't too bad for the most part. However, the last several puzzles get a bit difficult. They aren't really necessary, but I found them fun.

Huh? I'm just stumbling across the buildings where the symbols are (a red eye shows up). What am I missing?

And the tombs sound like fun, I just have no idea where to start looking other than vague hints (the duomo ... great ... thanks).

The tombs get listed on the map as you find new viewpoints.

Interesting. My maps are currently such a mess of stupid posters, wandering city officials, and other crap I probably haven't looked at it closely enough.
No way is this a GOTY contender. Without putting much thought into it I can think that Batman, inFamous, Uncharted 2, Dragon Age, Ratchet and Clank, MW2 and hell even Red Faction: Guerilla are better. It's good, but not great.

You can turn off any or all of the symbols on your map to make it easier to see things. It's been a while since I've played the game, but I'm pretty sure the option exists when you have your map open.

As you walk past any major building for the first time, it gets added to your database. The ones with a symbol have an icon next to the building's info in the database. If you pause the game and look through the database for each city, it tells you how many buildings have the symbol and how many you've found already. If you've walked by the buildings with the symbol, it will be listed normally. Otherwise, it shows up as a "???" in the list.

Unless you really enjoy the brain puzzles within these (triggered by standing next to the glowing symbol for a couple moments while in Eagle Vision mode), these buildings can be ignored. Solving all the puzzles unlocks a video that sort of fits in with the story, but not really well. If you're curious, the "Truth" video is all over youtube and the rest of the internet by now.

I'm guessing you have to get the upcoming DLC to get 100% on this? I've done everything, including the fucking feathers, but I'm still on 95ish%. I noticed there a couple of memory sequences missing from the strand too.
Yeah, they announced that they were adding in the "missing" memory segment as DLC later.

And yet people get on BioWare's ass for free day one DLC.

That's incredibly lame. I really hope companies forcing you to pay for the rest of the game you just bought doesn't become a trend. As much as I complain about DLC for Brutal Legend being lame, at least it's extra stuff and not part of the main game. God, imagine how short that game would have been.

It's been the trend for the last year.
Well then, up until this point I've been blissfully ignorant. It's one thing when the content is free, but to only let you have 95% of the game you paid for is a crock.
I'm a little late to the party and just got this game yesterday as an early birthday present. I'm really loving it so far. I just got the wrist pistol and i'm just having a blast running around shooting shit with it.

Started playing this last night, amazing little game. I'm still in the prelude section I think (running around Florence as a nobleman) but everything feels way more refined and way more crafted. Even the free running seems to be a lot more exact and you're already having to put a bit of thought into how to get on top of something.
Loved the living shit out of the first half of the game. Felt like they'd corrected the vast majority of the first one's flaws (though I also loved the first one). Enjoyed the next 25%, though I started to feel a bit confined. I already had the Altair armor (boooooooo on the inability to change its color) and best sword and every friggin' piece of equipment at that point, and for the final 25%, it was still fun to run and slaughter people, but there was no challenge and thus not much excitement. Needs boss battles or tougher enemies. Badly. The infiltration of the Vatican was pretty exciting and freshened things up, but then the final "fight" was a joke.

SPOILERS

If they intend on bringing this series into the present day, they're going to need to do something about just how fucking stupid it is to have Desmond fighting with his hands in a world full of guns. The fact that the ending guys have shock sticks, but no firearms, is absolutely fucktarded.

END SPOILERS

Did they want him alive? I don't recall.

As much as I loved Ezio's story (and despite EVERY MAJOR PERSON FROM THE RENAISSANCE appearing I thought it was great) I could have done without the sub David Ike bullshit at the end. Ancient civilizations, 2012 prophecies, alien god, Adam and Eve escaping from what is essentially a futuristic sweatshop. The game was already pretty weird, you have a fist fight with the Pope in the Sistine Chapel, but that just made it uncomfortably weird.
I liked all the ancient astronaut shit. Suggesting that all religions are false and were derived from an advanced civilization is kind of a ballsy plot twist for a major studio to put in a videogame. This series has always had a silly plot, and the ending made good on the silliness.
By itself, it's a ballsy choice, and again, I'm okay with the DaVinci Code silliness on paper, but the meat and potatoes of this series is traipsing around centuries old cultures, stabbing things you disagree with. Anytime it goes from interrupting secret backalley meetings with a stiletto to the neck from 50 feet up to alien intervention and mythology, the sudden shift is jarring. The Truth video was an intriguing way of trying to weave the two together, but not nearly enough. Hell, the pieces of Eden don't even come into play until Ezio gets made as a genuine assassin, and that's maybe 20 minutes from the end of the game. The first game had much more of a slow burn in that respect. The piece of Eden/mind control factor was a big deal halfway through.

I suppose from a story standpoint, it's a tough transition to swallow. From a gameplay and presentation standpoint, that stuff has always existed in the loading screens and the glowing NPCs. The present-day stuff/animus has always been a construct to explain some of the more "gamey" events. Like God of War II's ending, it not only teases that the stakes are raised, but it teases how they're raised (for GOW it's fighting on titans, for AC it's fighting ancient deities rather than more corrupt politicians).

That said, I hope they don't do away with the interesting locales. Suggested stuff like WWII and NYC would just be boring since we have enough games that explore those settings. Late 19th century England would be terrific.

Victorian England would be great. I'd love to see the game take part during the War of Independence too. Lots of room for interesting stuff their and it'd be enough of a visual change whilst allowing them to keep the overall style of Assassin's Creed.
Personally I still think enough hints have been dropped that to me it's pretty obvious the third game won't have one specific setting.

Desmond will reach this 'The One'-type state (after dipping back into Altairs memory and reaching the point where historical figures bled into the modern world he's almost there as it is) where he can access his ancestral memories without use of an animus and will be shifting between a number of different historical settings in order to unlock the keys to defeat the templars and save the world, with plenty of switchs back to the modern day to drive the conclusion of the trilogy.

I'm pretty darned sure that the third Assassin's Creed game will almost exclusively feature Ezio, take place in Renaissance Italy (primarily in Rome), and will include a multiplayer component.

As I understand it, thats more of an extra add-on type thing Assassin Creed: Episodes.

I'm talking about the conclusion of Desmonds trilogy - Assassins Creed 3.

As mentioned, I'd love Victorian England or maybe back in the 1600's for the Great Fire of London?

Failing that Revolutionary Paris would be great, exciting political backdrop, nice architecture, lots of fascinating historical characters to shoehorn in, rioting in the streets, last minute escapes from guillotines etc.

I think the modern day stuff will take up much more of the game though, playing in the same city in different centuries could be interesting.

Awesome, there's a big fat game-breaking glitch to be had if you download the DLC before you finish the game (for some people, apparently). You start the final level in Rome, except the entire town is empty. No people, no objectives, nothing, no way to progress. Googled it, and apparently it's happened to more than a few, and that I'm shit out of luck. Can't revert to an earlier save, can't abort mission, and uninstalling the DLC only makes the save unopenable completely. Thanks for thorough testing, Ubisoft!

Exhibit 28989791 why the "single save" system of heavy handedly organizing your progress for you is awful.

Yep, fucking retarded it is. When given the chance, I multiple-save like a fiend for this very reason.

I was really enjoying the shit out of this game, and was actually looking forward to collecting something like the last 5 feathers. No way I can bring myself to re-find all 95 of those again, as time-consuming as that was.

Not to mention I'm totally out ten bucks on the dlc I bought. I could have bought booze, or something.
That's seriously fucked. I'd email Ubisoft and demand compensation. Ask for a discount on their next big game, free dlc on something else - I dunno, something.

That's the least they can do.

I have a feeling that the least they can do is nothing. Xbox live states no refunds on the download screen, probably covers their bases. I'll shoot them an email though, won't take any more effort than writing this post. I will say that writing letters has always gotten me more action than I would ever have guessed. Used to write letters every time I got a slightly subpar effort at fast food joints because they were always quick with the free food vouchers.

The only thing that seems feasible is to offer people a download that overwrites their existing saved game, and gives them sort of "template" saved game that lets them finish the darned thing. Hell, give them all the best armor and equipment. They deserve it.

Not a bad idea considering it's a linear story. I did have the best armor and equipment at that point, and had the villa maxed out except for some of the feathers. I imagine most people would by that point in the game.

ETA: Although, if the issue is just that save files can become corrupted at that point due to DLC, then that might not be an option. To be honest, I'm probably more bummed about the lost DLC, I heard the last level isn't that long, but spending ten bucks on a DLC that sounded pretty good, and not being able to play it, that burns the most.

I think it is 100% feasible to overwrite the saved game using a download. The only reasons I could think of it not happening is cost/effort/annoyance, or the fear of ruining the integrity of the achievement system.

So I realized I enjoyed the game enough to play through it again, and didn't have the glitch this time. Fun ending, and good DLC with Bonfire of the Vanities. The only thing I don't get, is that throughout the game there is always a white haze obscuring the distance. Now, I realize that probably saves something graphically so the game can run smoother, and even though the haze isn't there in the Villa, I realize that's probably a smaller area. But, weirdly enough, during my entire playthrough of the Bonfire DLC, the haze was gone from Florence, and the distance was strikingly clear and beautiful, and the game ran just as fast as any other time. Oddly enough, upon completing the DLC sequence, the white haze returned to Florence. What gives? If they could remove it from Florence during that sequence, why is it there every other time/place? Or do I just have a weirdo copy? Anyone else notice this?
