The President's Address to a joint session of Congress 9/9/09 - Page 2

Insurance exchange you say, even got the Republicans up off their hands, interesting.
God, Boehner looks like he's having a stroke.
Liar.

I pay all my health care costs out of pocket. Fuck you for requiring me to carry coverage. I am able to pay for my health care and choose to do so out of my own pocket.
No public option so far. Disillusioned.
Finally Obama calls out the Shitheels!
Whoa, did someone just call Obama a liar?
Wow, someone actually yelled "Lie" at the President of the United States in the goddamn Congress.
Who was that idiot who shouted out "Liar!" at Obama!? Oh, we're going to hear more about him. God, what a disgrace.

Republicans totally no-sold the "Death Panels are bullshit" stuff.

Agree. I'm glad he took it on directly and seriously, without any jokiness. It is serious.

Also, public option... YAY!

You pay for your own insurance, or are you being mavericky and just paying it without it?
Obama sold out the public option?

Try getting me to volunteer for
you in 2012, jackass.
He just mentioned the Public Option!
Public option for those who do not have insurance.
lol, I thought you guys were talking about Tzu.

Was going to watch this live, but I opted to go to the library and teach my kid about roman numerals.
The one thing that worries me is the "public option only for those who can't afford it" part. Anyone should be able to buy in, especially if they have crappy WalMart insurance.
So Public Option, but very weak. Not funded by the government and will only cover 5 percent of americans. It also can't be offered by employers.
Glad he's taking it to the Republicans on a few points.
No, it's not only covering 5% of Americans, that's how many they expect will use it.
What's the deal with the people holding up the documents?

I'm not being mavericky. I pay cash for my healthcare needs. I negotiate with the doctors I patron and receive the lowest cost for the services I seek.

That isn't being mavericky that is doing what is truly going to reduce costs and keep me in control of my healthcare not allowing a government official or an insurance company to decide what I recieve.

I hate this "not one dime to the deficit" stuff. Isn't health care to save millions of lives worth more than tax cuts for the very rich, which carved out the greatest deficit in US history? Hate.
I swear to God, there is going to be a "Republicans weren't lit as well as Democrats!" meme in the next few days. Fuckers are totally on the dark side in more ways than one.
5% of 300 million = 15 million. 30 million less than the 45 million not covered now.
"Fuck YOU very much, Mrs. Palin."

I liked him taking on the Republicans for their shitty spending habits during Bush.

Yeah, he's being much more direct than I thought he would. Good stuff.

There are not 45 million uninsured Americans now.

Let Obama be Obama.
So Obama is trying to do incremental changes to Health Care and is hoping in 10-20 years that the Public Option will be expanded by a democratic president with more balls.

Nice Leadership, Barry. This is the least that you could do.
Wow, he even said "Fuck you!" on Bush's privitization scheme. He didn't even need to bring that up! Awesome.

I'll give you war spending but tax cuts increase government revenues. Have every time since Kennedy did it and will every time they are enacted.

What is the official number, Tzu?

Creeping implementation has been an overt affair since the bust of Hillarycare.

Republicans: standing up (literally) for rich doctors who fuck you up. That's a constituency they can get behind.
What would you do to reduce the cost of Health Care
post #89 of 489
"if you mis-represent this plan, we will call you out!"

Watch it , Snaike!

LOL. Especially since curbing malpractice has been tried and is a big fat bust. No savings.

Wow. If you are not rich, good luck with that. You are really playing with fire if you are not insured and disaster strikes. I'm going to guess you don't support a family either.

The man is surely at a crossroads. He's been playing fair and nice with an opposition that is neither and he's getting his arse handed to him. If he doesn't take the gloves off his presidency will simply be recalled as a terribly missed oppurtunity.

This will be the great test of President Barack Obama. The negotiator needs to put aside. The US is simply not that country anymore. If he wants the US to be anywhere near relevant in the future, the warrior needs to step up.

Approximate estimates are that

10 million are illegal immigrants or foreign nationals.

17 million are people like myself that choose not to purchase health insurance.

7 million are people who because of income limits do not qualify for current government plans

Less than 10 million people in America are chronically uninsured. Of those remaining 45% are without insurance for an average of four months.

So you end up with 5 million chronically uninsured. Offer these people insurance. Don't force me to buy something I do not want.

Quick and dirty because I'm trying to follow the speech. Sorry.

There are definitely 46 million uninsured. I imagine what he meant was there are not 46 million uninsured American citizens whom are actively seeking health insurance. In other words, you wouldn’t count Tzu amongst the uninsured, or at least, it wouldn’t make sense to count him amongst the people reform is meant to help.

Our unemployment numbers are similarly juiced the other way.
That was what he needed. Don't know how much of a difference it'll make, but it was damn good.

I am a small business owner who does support a family and I would not be considered rich by any standards. I am not playing with fire in my view. I am 33 years old and relatively healthy. In a few years I will purchase some insurance when it makes more sense. Right now I prefer to put money away for a rainy day.
I would purchase insurance but I am being discriminated against because of a pre-existing condition. My parents could pay my insurance, but I can't be covered by insurance companies right now.

No there are not. Please look it up. 45-47 million uninsured is a manufactured propaganda number.
So you don't pay insurance for your family? Do you have kids?

Also, you're 33, so you don't think you can be struck by a serious illness, or injured in a serious accident.

Your choice, but you are playing with fire to be quite honest.

The basic problem with Tzu’s position is its far too radical to be implemented, he is completely against a health insurance system in its entirety as far as I can tell, so anything that makes it more efficient would only adversely effect him in how he handles his own healthcare situation.
