Dungeons & Dragons Online - Shit is Free

Hey fellow nerds. So, the the D&D MMO is now operating under a free/paid premium thing.

You can sign up an grab the download from the site, www.ddo.com. Now, I've not played this MMO before, until last night, and it's not bad. Everything is instanced up into it's own little modules that you go to once you get a quest. And it's got all the little D&D accouterments (I guess. The only D&D stuff I've really played is the Baldur's Gates and Neverwinter Nights games) that happen as you delve into the instance. You search for traps, sneak, swim, break shit and hack monsters. And you don't get XP for monster killing, but all the other stuff you do during your adventure.

It's not bad and if anyone here on CHUD wants to start up a guild and do some dungeon siegeing on the weekends, I would be up for it. We could be the Dungeon Chewers.

I'll post my server and name later tonight when I get back home.

I'm actually just finishing up installing this right now. Good to hear its decent. I really wouldn't have given this game a second thought but being free I figured it was worth a try.

Hm. I'll have to take a look.

Shit may be free, but shit is taking 10 hours to download....

Okay, I haven't played an MMO since Star Wars Galaxies, but I'm downloading. This had better make me any less TOTALLY AWESOME than I currently am.

Dude, you're going to play D&D Online so it automatically takes you down from TOTALLY AWESOME to SOCIALLY AWKWARD SATAN WORSHIPPER.

The pay content is going to be adventures and such. Sort of like buying modules for the pen-and-paper game.

A coupla races and classes are premium content as well, but all of the premium content can alternately be purchased with an in-game currency earned via questing. There's also a subscription option like the kind players have been using up til now, which makes you a VIP member with automatic access to everything.

I downloaded the game and tried to make a Halfling Paladin tonight, but the name "Fredo Teabaggins" was already taken. Which one of you fuckers was it?

Ok.

I've got a rogue on the Sarlona server. "Karavoc Illender" I don't know if you need the both names or not.

Apparently there is in game voice chat so if anyone is interested in doing some questing this weekend, let me know, we'll see about killing some shit.

I was reading some stuff on the "freeness" of the game now and it seems to be much in line with old shareware games of yesteryear. You get about 1/3 of the full, used to be monthly subscription game for free with the option to use cash money to buy shit you really want, like the 2 extra classes and races. And juuuuuust noticed...pretty much what Rheokhu said.

Oh, and I don't know if I'll be playing him yet, but I also rolled a Palladin, so you might be able to search for him. "Tallco Mclargehuge" Yes, he is a dwarf.

Me and a buddy were fairly amped for this (I know, I know ...) as a way to get back into MMORPGS before KOTOR hit, but several friends told us it basically sucked. If the chatter here is different, maybe my interest will once again be piqued.

Reign the hope in a bit, brother.

The game is not shitty and plays different than WoW, but it ain't setting the world on fire. It seems like it could be pretty fun with a nice group to "adventure" with, but it's not gonna blow ya.

I haven't played this since launch. Anyone knows if the servers are separate for Europe and the US like in WOW? I'd love to try a few dungeons with you nerds.
