Their corporate masters must have a tin ear for irony (or maybe are having a hearty Marie Antoinette laugh at the whole thing) but evidently the tea partiers released a photo of their march that was actually taken during the Million Man March. Is there no end to the hilarity?
On the Glen Beck show Monday he was talking about the numbers (I can't remember what he claimed at the time, 1.5 million or something) and said, "Even if that isn't right, it's still a success! I would have called it a success even if only 200,000 people showed up!"

So, according to Glen Beck this wasn't a success.
He'd have called it a success even if it had never happened because his job is to drum up support for Republicans through demagoguery. Facts have no home at Fox "News".
I agree, but he's on record saying he would call it a success at 200,000. Not that he has any problem contradicting himself, but that would be perfect for one of those Daily Show segments where they argue against someone using the person's own sound bytes.

I learned years ago that the reasons the crazy American Right give for their opinion resemble those opinions only in that they share a common language. Lots of arguments in favour of the Iraq war went like this:

Bush Torture-coward: We have to invade Iraq! They have WMD's!

Me: No they don't. No searches have turned up anything like what Bush claimed.

BTC: Well . . . We have to invade anyway!

At which point you give up and wish that duels to the death were still legal.

The leader of the tea party movement has a meltdown on CNN

James Carville's reaction is priceless....
You know, when he's not talking, Williams has this look on his face that reminds me of Bob from Monsters Vs. Aliens. Maybe that's just me.

Again, the irony bell is a-clangin' for the split-second that this guy was speaking the truth (about the corporations running Washington) when you step back and remember that the tea party "movement" is bankrolled entirely by corporations for the sole purpose of preventing any of that power from being taken back. Freedomworks, which paid for all those buses, pre-printed signs, organizational support, etc., has huge clients in the health insurance and pharmaceutical industries. And all the publicity/marketing is being done by Fox, a corporate octopus with tendrils into all the (only marginally threatened) industries.
I would very much appreciate this guy dying in a fire.

And this is why I watched the clip with no sound. Glorious.

As if that wasn't enough, Crooks and Liars dug up some past quotes from Williams.

About Cindy Sheehan protesting outside Bush's ranch:

Quote:
O'Donnell: "Mark, if you don't mind, you're making the case that Cindy Sheehan is hurting the morale of our troops?"

Williams: "She is aiding and abetting the enemies of this country and the people who killed her son. And right now Casey Sheehan is spinning in his grave!"
About the victims of Katrina:

Quote:
Williams: ..they didn't have the necessary brains and common sense to get out of the way of a Cat 5 Hurricane and then when it hit them- stood on the side of the convention Center expiring while reporters were coming and going..

Morris:...that's just sickening---that is atrocious what you are saying...
About Kanye West:

Quote:
Williams: The only role race plays in this is that the American black population has been the prototype for an entire race of people being, being turned into a group of dependents of the government--trapped there, I'm using that word very loosely are screaming we want help, we want help..
To call him a cockroach would be an insult to cockroaches.

I do not understand how democracy (little d) is possible, or at least how our republic can function, when News organizations are able to discuss the meaning and ramifications of a march on Washington in a way that is completely detached from reality. Fox News and Glen Beck have managed to exaggerate the number of 9/12 Tea Baggers to a figure twenty four greater than the highest reported official estimate.

How can a News organization not lose their ability to issue press passes or something after actively promoting the idea that more people attended the 9/12 tea party than attended the events in DC 1/20/09? Put simply, at what point are they actually in the fiction buisness? As far as I've been able to gather, the only 'proof' anyone has managed to turn up for these monstrously absurd fabrications are photos of the Million Man March taken in the 1990s, and Glen "Disturbed Individual" Beck's demented claim that he took his figure of 2 million attendees from a "university study". Which University you wonder? Beck's got that answer; "The University of ... I do not remember the university"

Are we really supposed to run a government and insist on the principal that even these voices must be heard from?

FOX News is only confusing if you consider it a news source, or consider news channels in general to be objective. Every channel on TV is owned by specific people with specific interests.

It's not just the neocons. Even Bill O'Reilly briefly performed a public service by covering stories about General Electric's dealings with the Iranian energy program, a story that GE-owned MSNBC would never touch.

That is interesting... he's making a Populist argument here...I guess the New World Order first targeted the Blacks for their Welfare/slavery program. Who's next? The Hispanics? The Eye-Talians? Maybe it's YYYOOOUUU!

It was. You can just tell this Williams guy's argument when he's not on TV is "Well, DUH!". He looks like a guy who can't stop reliving his glory days as a linebacker in high school. I had to watch it again with sound just to hear what made Carville do all but fall off his chair laughing.

For me it was Gergan's shocked expression that makes the video
post #172 of 196
I don't recognize the man. But I recognize the expression! It was similar to Biden's "Oh you poor soul" headshake in response to Wilson's heckling last week. I think (hope) you'll be seeing more of it.

Oh my god, I hate you for bringing this to me.

This is what struck me most about that video. I had to move the slider back a second and see if he really said that.

One of the better man on the street videos from the Tea Party. What makes this a keeper is when the Tea Party folks hear the truth about what Czars really are....

That's awesome. We should just let these folks keep on talking until they bury themselves with their own stupidity.

"And you know this how?"

Thanks so much for posting that link.

My favorite is the young kid who has absolutely no fucking idea why he's there except for the canned responses he's probably heard his parents shouting at the TV.

In fact, I love how none of them seem to be able to give any specifics behind the policies they're so vociferously against.

10 minutes of Weiner, huh? A particularly light touch. It's a shame he wasn't found by a crazy religious suicide cult first.
A lot of people in these 9/12 videos seem to process information on the level of seven-year-olds. If you were to ask them which is more, a tall pint or a short pint of water, I honestly wonder what some of them would say.

Holy fuck they are ignorant! I know that the majority of republicans can't be as stupid as these, but what really confuses me is how the media is not flooded with normal intelligent republicans distancing themselves from this shit? Or is this video a representation of the average republican? Surely not!?!?

Well you do have David Frum and John Henke trying but the overwhelming amount of intelligent Republicans are staying silent and tacitly approving of these morons. You have to realize that the Republicans have lost the college graduates, the young people, every minority including the Hispanics, and the West. As a consequence, the Republicans are now left with the old, the white, the stupid, and the racists having a bigger impact than they normally would.

Which is even worse than being stupid and racist. At least the morons are too deficient to grasp how pathetic and foolhardy they are; like a calf born with three legs, just standing up is a real accomplishment for them (or in their case, remembering a catch phrase from the radio even after they see something shiny). For many of them, their illiterate signs are probably the pinnacle of their artistic and philosophical lives.

The only person who would want stupid assholes on their team is an evil asshole.

Wow - I could barely get through most of that on the van.

What the hell does "If They Don't Like Our Smoke / They Don't Like Our Money" even mean?

If they actually had brain cells to kill that just might work.
