The Jay Leno Show - Page 2

He will never hold those numbers. At least not while he continues to feature long, boring skits featuring "The Dan Band". It was positively SNLish in it's refusal to end.

Well, yeah, an earlier time slot, plus Kanye apologizing less than 24 hours the night after he made an ass of himself. While it's true that he had two advantages, he won't hold those numbers forever - not unless he manages to get a celebrity scandal every single night.

Leno does seem to thrive when scandal is involved. Remember how Hugh Grant's appearance on the Tonight Show helped him get past Dave back in the 90s?

Jim Norton: Bad at PG-13 rated comedy.

Pretty good, in fact I always thought the old set felt more personal, so its actually the set that could be a problem. Bring everyone closer and lets hope we don't lose Conan to a Jay Leno makeover.

Jim Norton was funny. The rest was pretty much just more of the same.

A bit surprised they took a shot at Conan with the baby crying while he was doing Conando then the baby being calm and playful with Jay.

Good stuff. And he is right to a point. Conan does try a bit too much to be the "good" Tonight Show host insted of being Conan O'Brien on the Tonight Show.

conan HAS played it safe when he shouldn't. it's just as easy now to turn over to colbert to see a brilliant comedian playing it as sharp as he can. conan is trying to appeal to the leno crowd which is a mistake because he doesn't bland himself up enough to do it, but he makes himself too bland to appeal to the huge fanbase he already has.

I glanced at your post, and sort of merged your last comment with your signature, and ended up reading in my head, "**edited to remove shit from my ass**".

The writer of that article has his head up his ass.

40% ratings drop for Leno last night
Glad to see the ratings dropping off. Is there a chance that if it fails badly enough, we might have 10pm Dramas back, at lease on some week nights, by mid season?

It was always going to drop regardless of how big the premiere did and will continue to. But you're acting like it was an Ang Lee Hulk-style plummet. A 40% drop is nothing to shit on. Especially when he still won his time-slot against the Big Brother finale.
I wonder if this will inspire the other networks to throw some quality up against Leno or if they just decide to throw their hands up and get out of his way.

Sorry, I know it was not an Ang Lee drop off, and did not mean to imply it was. I am merely hoping the drop off is a sign of things to come.
NBC still had almost 8.5 million people watching the show last night. Besides, are they really gonna cancel Leno?
I can't believe Leno beat out the Big Brother finale. Leno's gonna be on every night now but Big Brother is gonna be absent from our lives for like 10 months now. No veto comps, no Pandora's box, no special appearances in the BB house by Jeremy Piven to promote his film THE GOODS. Gone, all of it.

Depending on how long his contract is for, they might just honor it and then be done with him for good.
Won't Leno just threaten to do an 11:30 show on ABC or FOX? That fear is what got him on 10PM to begin with.

I don't think he'd even threaten. He'd let them ax him then just go over to FOX or ABC.

Said fear was on the part of NBC for making the deal. Say what you will about Leno, but it was retarded as fuck for the NBC to basically tell him, "OK. You're gone once your contract expires!" five years ahead of time. Despite the fact that he's one of the very few people who was still making them money.
Back then NBC probably figured Jay would be content with bowing out and spending the rest of his days under the hood of a Dodge Scamp. No such luck.

Well, didn't he also say he was happy to go, that he'd be able to spend more time with his wife or some such. Seems like he was lying through his teeth, or he realized he just couldn't live outta the spotlight doing corporate gigs and such.

Being in showbiz entails the ability to lie your ass off. Didn't believe that just like I didn't buy that Conan was cool with the Leno deal (i.e. his appearance on Jay's last show screamed awkward and forced!)

I believe you're correct though. Said something to that effect.

Norton sucked. Not to say he's a bad comic, but he doesn't work in that format.

Nobody mentioned Michael Moore singing.

Or the awkward Q & A with Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz.

The less said about those the better. Only caught a bit of the monologue tonight, his "Great white moments in african american history" seemed like a Letterman bit.

Even if you despise Leno, I think there's one thing we can agree on: He's funnier than Jimmy Fallon will ever be. Which isn't saying much, but still.
This got beat by a repeat of The Mentalist last night, although Leno had the higher number in the 18-49 demo.

In fact, NBC finished third for the evening behind CBS and FOX (!). The prime-time SNL and Parks and Recreation got absolutely clobbered by Survivor and Bones.

All is going according to plan... Mwa hahaha!
Keep in mind that 3rd place is an improvement for NBC.
Yeah, but their 8:00 block had about half the viewers of Survivor and Bones.

"It's the Tonight Show with Jayyyyyyy Lenooooo. Tonight's guests; Pamaler Anderson! Harrison Ford! Niggerless Cage! The comedy stylings of Greg Gerarrdo! And me, I'm John. And now: JAYYYYYY LENOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!"

That was way inside.

This show sucks.

I dunno if you can honestly say that.

A bit surprised a repeat took it out, just wait for a new one.

And SNL and Parks and Rec getting beat is no surprise. Parks and Rec is complete garbage. And people just don't seem to care about SNL anymore unless Tina Fey is doing Sara Palin.

After seeing how much this show sucks I wonder if Stuttering John still feels bad about being kicked to the curb? I'm sure he misses the paycheck.

After the first head to head with real competition Leno loses to both CSI and Castle.

I thought he was still a writer?

1.8 rating in the 18-49 demo. That's got to hurt.

He is, but he probably had to take a major paycut and no airtime (even if it was just lifting that mug).

Good. I don't really hate Leno, I understand he caters to a particular audience, but I hate NBC for taking up such a huge piece of primetime real estate with his show.

In a perfect world this would allow NBC to focus on creating and fostering new fictional entertainment. Instead I'm sure they'll either ride Leno until he dies or add an extra hour of America's Fat Fatties every night.

So if this is how we can expect Leno to preform ratings-wise, when does the axe fall? If not on the show entirely, at least on the madness that programmed him 5 nights a week?
He desperately needs more cute animals, at least I know those were the only ones I watched.
No axe will be falling. NBC had to expect these numbers. They gave up on 10pm, there's no going back now. They're an 8-10 network now, like FOX.

These are just the early stages of the death of network TV. First, they gave up on Saturday. Now a network has amputated 1/3rd of its schedule. Soon, the networks will cede Fridays (only CBS gets numbers above horrific there). I'd guess Sundays 7-8 will fall after that. And so on...

Jay Leno is the harbinger of the network apocalypse!
So they just played a clip from the wedding episode of The Office. Shut up, I'm watching because Jenna Fischer is on. Anyway, it was a really good gag. Will this be the funniest thing on the show before it gets cancelled? Survey says yes.

Did he mention Letterman at all. I was curious but not curious enough to watch the show.
He briefly mentioned it. It was a joke about how, with the Letterman situation and Conan smashing his head, he got out of the Late Night game at just the right time.
Like Gravedigger, I only turned it on because Jenna Fischer was a guest. Left the tv on mute and read until I saw her walk out, watched the interview (funny clip from the upcoming wedding ep, btw, but the way he prodded her about her engagement was just gross), and turned it off as soon as I realized that Pamcakes was about to participate in some sort of embedded commercial for Ford Focus. Ew ew ew.

I didn't know it was possible, but Leno seems to have gotten more crass and LCD since taking over the 10/9 timeslot. Handing that hour back over to NBC's rotating cavalcade of cop dramas and hospital shows would be a much better use of the network's time.
