This was very solid, but I think I enjoyed UNDISPUTED 2 a bit more. I like my fight scenes to be lengthier, even if it's unrealistic. Bone was just too quick for his own good. I also prefer DEATH WARRANT over LIONHEART. Coincidence?

Ruffio's got quite the potty mouth on him in this.

One thing's for certain, MJW deserves another headlining theatrical release. What was his last? SPAWN? Did BLACK DYNAMITE even get a wide release (EDIT: Nope. 70 theaters)?

I'd watch a sequel to B&B for sure.

I and many others would love to see Jai White as Luke Cage. But Jai White better act fast before he loses out to the Old Spice guy (not Terry Crews):

Agreed!

This was a totally solid movie, as soon as White opens up an epic can of whoop-ass on those prisoners, you know you're in for something special, in a way this film reminded me of Hard Times, although the fights were really good, I never really got the feeling Bone was in any danger.

He never did call Gina Carano.

Well, I finally watched this movie tonight and I agree with the consensus. It's good stuff that is better than its DTV origins and it's definitely theatrical quality. In a fair and just world, Michael Jai White would be a much bigger star than he is now and he'd appear in stuff on the big screen that we'd mark out for, instead of the stuff that passes for action movies that appear in cinemas.

That's about all that I can say about it, as much praise has already been said on the highlights. Although, I was amused by Eamonn's character, who tried to be suave and sophisticated but it turns out that's just a facade. I was also amused by his ultimate fate.

Here's a really good interview with Michael Jai White. He discusses Blood and Bone, Black Dynamite, and his upcoming directorial debut Never Back Down 2 (which he describes as being the greatest MMA film ever made).  He also talks about the various obstacles he has encountered in Hollywood:

No Competition: An Interview With Michael Jai White

In the world of Mixed Martial Arts, concentrating in a single form of combat isn’t enough.  One has to be versatile and well-schooled in many different disciplines.  A combatant that specializes too much in a given style could find himself at a disadvantage in the ring or the cage.  He who fails to adapt, evolve, and capitalize on any given opportunity will eventually die an unceremonious death.  That same philosophy holds true in the entertainment business.  You can’t be a one trick pony.  The stars that shine the brightest and the longest are the ones with many shades and layers to their onscreen persona.
