The cheese tray was great. The cold open was amazing. The rest was so so. I can't believe Wallace would trust Michael's judgment on anything at this point.
Michael used to be a lovable jerk... this season he's just a jerk.

I'm not complaining, mind. He's getting closer to David Brent every episode.

I don't know why, but there's something kinda creepy about that.

As for lovable jerk Michael... he's been simply a jerk for a long time for me. LONG time. Since at least the iPod video Christmas episode. I wouldn't even care about what a jerk he is except for the fact that the show needs to constantly apologize for it. David Brent didn't need to be 'redeemed' in every episode. They saved that for the end. Larry David certainly doesn't, and I hope they never do. That's the biggest difference.
Exactly. I liked David Brent. He came off more as a loser than a jerk. Michael Scott is just an awful human being.
i used to work weddings, and that site is hilariously on point
post #57 of 861
Definitely. I think that's why it creeps me out.

Yeah, it seems every time Michael goes overboard (what's it, like three times a week at least?), they have to remind us that really he's just a poor widdle emotionally stunted man-child and, gee, he just can't help himself. Just making him a good salesman doesn't make up for the fact that he seriously could use a good punch in the face.

Dave and I were talking about this last night when we saw this promo on NBC. I'm pretty sure that it's the promo department that's gotten out of hand over-romanticizing and over-hyping this. I expect that the show will devote the hour it has set aside for the wedding to driving as many holes as it can in the whole hearts-and-flowers, perfect perfect perfect thing. At least I hope it will, anyway.

Of course! Who else is there besides NBC promotion that can save this traaaaaain-wreck of a show!? No one, that's who!

I'm sure the show will handle their wedding just fine. They've handled everything else pretty well so far.

If it were completely up to the promo department to get me interested in a show, I'd hate everything.

Jim is starting to "get" Michael with this position. Interesting.
Theyre on a roll so far this season.
The discussion about the planet meeting was fantastic.

I know the show isn't usually too concerned with episode-to-episode continuity but it would be interesting to see the raise situation carry over. I'm sure next week will be a big interruption since it's the wedding episode.
Pam's face when she showed off the check made out to "Mrs. Pam Halpert" was the most adorable thing ever.
The Office is 3 for 3 this year. The Jim/Michael scenes were delightful squirm-inducing gold. Here's hoping the wedding episode won't throw them off too badly.
More Creed gold with both his interaction with Meredith and him agreeing that it was him talking instead of Dwight in the group shot.

They've hinted at this in a previous season with the way Jim handled the multiple birthdays. It was one of those moments where suddenly Michael shows how 'wise' he truly is. I liked the moment, though I still think it breaks Michael out of the jackass character he truly is.

But this was similar and I think it's one of the more effective ways of making Michael sympathetic. I still don't get why the other characters don't strangle him to death in any of the other scenes though. Haha
post #68 of 861
It makes Michael still sympathetic, because it proves that everyone in the office is a huge baby, but he's still a jackass. Maybe before he was in management he was just a dorky guy with a lame sense of humor, but being manager as long as he's been has molded him into a complete jackass. Just because he "understands" what makes these people tick doesn't mean he isn't an a-hole. You just understand a little bit more why he is. And, yeah, they should want to murder him every day, but I think you still go to jail for that. There are times that it would be justifiable homicide, though...

Not a great hilarious episode, but a good character one. The bit with the mugs at the end was great.

And Kevin's constant, "What does a bean mean!?" was damn funny, the more insistent it got. And Michael's drawing of Toby.
Definitely. As I said, this is one of those moments where it works for me despite the fact that I still find it a bit of a cheat. Because it seems more like an explanation as opposed to the usual 'arrested development apology.'

And as the rest of the cast of the office gets wackier and wackier, I come to the conclusion, "Yes... these people all deserve each other."

Loved Michael's drawing of Toby. It actually looked a LOT like him!

I've known some Michael Scott-types in the workforce. Genuinely good-hearted people...just fucking morons. Always seen the other characters as going, "Well...that's Michael for ya! What else did I expect?" and just moving on. That's why I've never hated his character. But as you said mcnooj82, the majority of the cast are nut-jobs anyway.

But I'd be interested to see how much of the Michael we've known since the pilot was there from the start. Did being promoted to manager and the pressures of said job make him...him. If that makes any sense.

And....did I spot Kevin wearing a wig in the promo for next week's wedding episode...?

Yes. Yes you did. It looked glorious.
So what exactly was so bad about dividing up the raise money equally?
1.5% would probably equate to anywhere from 300 to 500 dollars a year, which isn't terrible (hey, a raise is a raise), but is probably less than what people were accustomed to getting for the normal cost of living increase.

I'm terrified that during a commercial break I said "Why don't the just do a merit based raise", only to find out that was Michael's suggestion as well.
If they had gone with the equally minuscule raise option, the asshole employees probably woudl've started bitching about how certain departments and so-and-so's merited more than others.

There was no way to win with THESE people...
Yeah, but I think you have more of a leg to stand on with "Everybody gets the same thing" than "You get a raise and you don't" or "You all get raises, but some are getting more than others". Especially after they reacted so viciously to just the sales people getting the raise. In fact, I expected Michael to jump in there with a "Jim's just kidding, everybody gets the same raise."
Oh, no doubt. I wondered the same thing.
I gotta say, the Chris Brown Youtube wedding made me laugh. Kevin wearing tissue boxes for shoes made me laugh harder. Michael still sucks.

Helms' reaction to "the split" might have been the funniest thing I've seen (film and television) all year.
The absurdity of the dance in (Shrute kicking the chick killed me) juxtaposed against the genuine sweetness of Pam and Jim on the boat worked for me.
Holy shit the tissue boxes, Kevin is my hero. Also, the speech was probably the most cringeworthy minute of television in a long time. I love that it was so awkward even Creed looked uncomfortable.
I know that vomit jokes are just a hair above fart jokes but goddamn the opening of the episode was funny.
That little dance was sweet. Love Angela just walking down the aisle. I too would be offended if people thought Kevin was my boyfriend. I wish Andy the best of luck with Erin!
Not just the best episode of the year, but one of their better episodes at all. Like Raspberry Leper said, showing us the glimpses of the sweet boat trip while everything was going on at the wedding absolutely worked. It was funny, it wasn't sappy and unlike a lot of their 60 minute episodes it filled the entire hour easily. I absolutely loved it.
Perfect way to handle the wedding. Fantastic episode.
Oh, forgot to shout out Andy's emotional reaction to Jim's speech. And when they pan over to reveal Dwight looking bored? Priceless.
Michael's "You'll sleep alone for the rest of the your life, so start getting used to it" to Toby was amazing. Kevin's shoes, the dance, the real life joy they seemed to be having with the episode.

Really liked it.

I'm calling it, Michael starts dating Pam's mom.

then comes the eventual MICHAEL SCOTT IS JIMS FATHER storyline.
Also, Michael falling asleep on the drive up. I don't even know why but that just killed me.
That was absolutely fantastic. Sweet and still really funny.

"Plan A was marrying her years ago."

Michael's talk about how sex with condoms on feeling different killed me.
Poor Toby. "I guess that's means the end of those two . . ."

I think I might have a crush on Erin. So adorable.

Great episode.
I'm really digging Dwight this season.

"She's a dental hygenist from Carbondale, and she makes love like one. Pass."

But then I'm always digging Dwight.
best episode ever and I second the love for Dwight.

Isn't this her?

Yep, that's her.
Okay, I've never heard of this apparently legendary Youtube video they were dancing to. I'm guessing it's a couple of years old (like Parkour). Anyone got a link?
What sold the vomit scene was the absolutely calculating look on Pam's face when she did it. And Creed still chowing down on his lo mein through all of it.
I think Angela doing it through her hands got me

Also, I've seen that video several times and it never ceases to amaze me how uncoordinated those people are. Flapping your elbows like chicken wings a dance does not make..

re

Outstanding episode - from what I've noticed pretty much any "Office" episode featuring a musical montage is golden. Was anyone else crushed that part II of the Andy/Kelly dance-off was cut short? Oh, hello everyone *waves*
