And Patton Oswalt guest stars! I really do like this show.

Best episode of the run so far. It bordered on brilliant. I was laughing my ass off.

Absolutely. If they keep Danson and Galifinakis as his partners from now on this show will be right behind Sunny for laughs.
Danson and Galifianakis towered over this episode. I kind of feel bad thinking the show would be a lot better if Schwartzman got lost. I don't think that's a reflection on him so much as it is a reflection of his character. The other two are just so damn entertaining, especially together.

So, I finally caught up with all these through On Demand while house sitting.

This show is fucking awesome, and it's only getting better. This week's episode was one of the funniest and most brilliant things I've seen in a long while. The writing, timing, direction, acting... everything was top notch.

I'm so thankful this has been renewed for another season. It deserves it. It seems they're finding great, organic excuses to get Danson and Galifianakis in on the action.

side note: I kept wondering who the girl was in this week's, and it was really starting to nag at me. All of the sudden, it hit me. I'd hung out with her while she was down here shooting an indie-film for a friend of mine who's a director. I was frankly shocked to see her in a "legit" acting gig. She wasn't bad in my friend's film, but not all that great either. Still, so weird to have that "what show have I seen this actress in before" thing linger for so long, only to realize that you know them from personal interaction.

Great episode tonight. I hope Ray gets to fight somebody.

About time they name dropped Paul Austere since I feel his work has probably been the largest influence on this show.
"I am average build."

Hahaha, I really like this show. I hope Ray gets his revenge on the lesbian sperm thieves.
Yeah, this episode was a bunch of set ups for future story lines.
I started off liking this show, and i've grown to absolutely love it. they should get Paul Feig to direct as many episodes as possible. tonight was fantastic
post #61 of 132
Yeah, i struggled at first. But now that the 3 main characters spend more time with each other it's flowing a lot better. They have amazing chemistry.
First four episodes were interesting enough that I didn't forget this show, but I fell off catching it every Sunday. Watched the rest of the season this week, and things really picked up in that sixth episode, which I believe a bunch of you were praising above. Just a really hilarious, jam-packed episode -- as if they couldn't wait to get those three guys together.

Same thing ran through my mind as well....

Eh, I think its like seinfeld, hes the straight man and on paper it might seem that way, but it wouldnt really be so engaging without the straight man to give it some foundation or base from which the wackiness can spring

This was back!
And was pretty good.
Galifianakis was kinda terrible. But Danson and Schwartzman brought it big time.

Danson asking about the candle killed me.
This show is all kinds of great. Of all the shows I watched tonight I think this was my favorite. It just hits the spot for me.
Schwartzman in the bondage suit killed me. Especially the way he throws his hands up in the final shot. 'EUNUCH!'
very happy to see this back. it's the perfect buffer between boardwalk empire and eastbound and down. HBO has a hell of a sunday night again!
Yeah I thought this was a good episode too. I loved Jonathan going back to pick up the chair he accidentally knocked over while running in the gimp suit, and the mundane small talk that was going on amidst the absurdity of that final scene.
So 2.2 might have been the best episode of the series, even if the bedroom denouement was entirely predictable. I loved the Mamet/Bukowski exchange.
This might be my favorite show.
I'd have to agree that 2.2 was the best so far. We even had a Jonathan Ames cameo!

The dick sharing, the threesome, Danson wanting to switch the breakfasts. Danson is incredible here.
After the three-way in Jonathan's apartment, nearly every scene was cripplingly funny. Even Ray was firing on all cylinders. My favorite line:

"We're not going into an alley. I'm not falling for that again."
I honestly just laugh at everything Danson says. His delivery of a man child who is amazed by everything he discovers is simply amazing.
Bored to Death has so much love for all of its characters. It's so non-judgmental and kind, even to incidental characters like last season's thugs, the dungeon cop, or Antrem's assistant.
"i'm your friend, but i'm not going to look at your cock, i don't care what Hemingway wrote"
I thought that was a pretty good episode. This series has definitely improved. Plus Agnes DiPesto is Jonathan's mom!
I love how all the criminals in this show are basically the muggers from that one episode of 'Flight of the Conchords.'
"Stage Two"

Every time Danson said that, i just lost it. He's incredible here.
"I can't die... I haven't figured anything out yet!"

"Oh, you sell vaporizers?"
Not that they're really comparable besides both being TV-MA rated half-hour comedies on HBO, but I think this show blows Eastbound & Down (which I love) out of the water. I think this is the best thing on TV right now. I'm probably in the minority with that opinion though.

I completely agree.

It really does just keep getting better and better.

I love Danson so much in this role. He's perfect.

Another great episode. This might be my favorite series on TV so far this season, slightly edging out Supernatural.

Unfortunately it's continuing to get better and gain momentum...and there are only three episodes left.

This show badly needs a 12-13 episode season.
No. I love the small seasons. They make every episode great. This and East Bound and Down have made so much progress between seasons.
That was a good episode, but the whole "it's not even loaded" BANG! gun thing is so fucked out.
Not sure i loved the resolution to the cancer story line, but George calling Jonathan his son was surprisingly touching.

Yeah, that wasn't particularly satisfying...and honestly, it didn't make any sense either. Were they trying to say that George never had cancer? And throughout this entire ordeal and his relationship with his doctor they believed he was this Christenson dude?
Yes. That's exactly what happened.
Yeah, I thought it was going to end up that the doctor was just a nutcase and wanted to keep George around by telling him he had cancer. Certainly seemed at every turn that's how it was going. They must have changed their minds toward the end.

I got a little misty at that. So well-played by Danson and Schwartzman.

Finally caught up . . . And I think it has snuck up and ousted everything else as my favorite current TV show. Maybe it's a post-marathon elation, but I love this show more than anything else on TV right now, maybe even more than Community. It was episode three that really hit it home for me.

Danson is incredible. I can't really add much more to the praise that's already been (deservedly) heaped upon him, but he's perfect. His delivery of "You can bear it. That's just terrible. I'm never going to win this thing," had me and my friend laughing so hard we had to stop the episode. After rewinding and watching it again, of course.

The moment the woman at his office asked him if he'd gotten a second opinion it was obvious that he wouldn't actually have cancer. But I loved the "Is that appropriate?" capstone. And it gave Danson a lot of really vulnerable and moving work to slip in between the laugh lines. The aforementioned son scene especially.

I am the most invested in these characters of any other group on TV. I realized this as I watched Ray with Leah on her porch after rescuing the dog. I was so connected to the characters, and I relaized this show has really sucked me in mor ethan I had noticed.

Jason Schwartzman spanking Zoe Kazan was far sexier than it had any right to be.

Actually, when did Zoe Kazan get sexy?
I didn't even recognize that as Zoe Kazan. Wow. I saw her in A Behanding in Spokane and she was TERRIBLE.

Is Bored to Death trying to compete with Boardwalk Empire for most nudity on HBO? Whoever wins, Ted Danson wins, too.

ETA: We still have one more ep of this season, right?

I was thinking that too. A week where Boardwalk Empire has a surprisingly small amount of nudity and Bored to Death picks up the slack in a big (...) way. This was a relatively minor episode but I think the show has really found it's niche this season. Having Ted Danson and Galifinakis consistently in the same scenes was the the smartest (most obvious) thing they could have done.
Hahaha, George and his Klaus Kinski fetish.

Each episode this season (except the cancer scare one) could have been a reasonably good capper to the season. They all end so perfectly.
"I want to be insane"
"I was trying to be Tony Curtis"

Loved that Vikram is back.
Good finale. Seemed like they were going for the "this can be the series capper if we don't get renewed".
I thought it was the weakest element of an otherwise terrific season. The final shot of the penultimate episode would have been a better capper, I think.

Still pretty good, though. Not much happened to Jonathan's character this year - Season 2 was the season of George, which was for the better.
Indeed. Danson totally shone.

I liked the last shot well enough. "Let's get stoned and find something to eat in Brooklyn, indeed"
I was a little late to the party with this show but I just got through all of it and now I feel compelled to watch it again, holy shit it's so good. George is without question my new favourite character on television, he says some surprisingly profound things when he's high.

I've always had a weird love/hate thing with Jason Schwartzman, I really find him irritating and sexually repulsive but there are some roles he works for and Jonathan Ames PI is a great example. His insecure wishy washy little man character perfectly balances the insanity of George and Ray, if you replaced him with an equally zany character the show would collapse under its own weight like a dying star. And he does have his funny moments, his rivalry with Louis Greene was awesome.
