Survivor: Samoa - Page 4

Russell was able to advance himself to the end of the game, but I agree with Jaison, Natalie played the better game. I would change my mind if the jury situation was different, but there was no way in hell that all the people that Russell backstabbed would end up voting for him in the end.

Also, except for the coconut challenge, and the very last immunity challenge, Natalie did just as good as Russell in the challenges. IMO she deserved the reward.

I'll still root for Russell in Heroes vs Villians (because he is entertaining). But I'm hoping Coach will outlast him and have more screen time.

I just have to wonder how much of "I saw strong women getting kicked out" was strategy and how much of it was justification for her not doing much.
It definitely sounds like justification to me. But she did initiate Eric getting voted out, which was the point in the game that gave the Foa Foa members a shot to stay in the game.

Natalie should thank Erik because he swung the vote. Russell was right when he said his chances were slightly above average, but it swayed big time when Erik gave his speech. Jury's are always swayed by passion (it goes all the way back to Season 1 where Kelly had it in the bag until Sue's "snake and rat" speech) and the pure emotion coming from Erik - it almost seemed like he was going to cry - carried the day IMHO.

Until tonight, Rob C. was the greatest player to never have won. Now he's #2. I may not like Russell personally, but he played a good game. This isn't "moral" Survivor. I really hate that argument. The worst part about Natalie winning is that she's going to think its because she is a "God Warrior".

And Russell gets the cash!
Let's make it official though, Russel IS the best survivor player thus far.
Any idea if this coming season will be the last?
But unfortunately he is not the "Soul Survivor." I'm wondering if he didn't do too hot in Heroes vs. Villians if he was this passionate about his loss tonight.

MAJOR SPOILER FOR HEROES VS. VILLAINS:

All indications are that Russell makes it to the final three.

I bet it will depend on how well the season does.

I posted this previously in the thread, but Heroes vs. Villains will be great because no one will see Russell coming. Survivor shot the two seasons back to back, so everyone playing the game will not have seen Somoa before leaving for the shoot. Russell knows all about the previous players tricks, but they won't have know his. I bet he makes it far. He should think about being less abrasive, but he wouldn't be Russell if he did.

ETA: Stop posting spoilers. I'm too weak not to look. Must hold out!!!
Considering how great the ratings have been this season, I can't imagine the show not being renewed for seasons 21 and beyond.
Yeah they filmed Heroes vs. Villains a lot sooner than they usually do for Spring seasons. They tend to shoot during November-December. Apparently this was done around September-October. So Russell got next to no downtime and jumped immediately into this.
Probst said Feb. 11 is when the next one started.

Nor was he the "Sole Survivor" but win or not Natalie was all but a non entity gameplay wise. Russel losing because "he was mean" is stupid. If anyone says they'll remember Natalie over Russel in ten years they're lying.
Juries have always tended to be sore-losing asswipes. Yet another example.
Russell couldn't read the emotional vibe from the jury. His over-the-top arrogance and preening about his gameplay (justified, of course) wouldn't play with this group, and they punished him for it. A more rational and less high-strung jury (like, say, last season) might have gone his way.

I don't really have anything to add except that Laura is a grandmother. I'll say that again: Laura is a grandmother. What the what?

She could be in her 40s and be a grandmother.
According to the Survivor website, she's 39 so, of course, it's entirely possible.

What a ripoff. People are so jealous. This is like if Mike V. didn't win Top Chef.

Some of you may know that my college friend Bob was on Survivor Panama: Exile Island. Anyway, he posted some photos on Facebook of a Survivor reunion party held two weekends ago. I just had to share a few.

Here's BobDawg with Bruce and Russell; not sure who the chick is. (It's Jodi Wincheski from the Amazing Race 14)

Russell with what seems to be a replica of the hidden immunity idol necklace

James showing off some skin his his tight v-neck tee. (The girl is Kendra Guffey from a show called Pirate Master)

I really hate survivor jury's but it's not like they would change their system now. Mick seemed to not be thrilled with natalies win either. Or I could be projecting.
Juries tend to talk outta their asses as to why they voted. This shouldn't have come as a surprise knowing past seasons.
Having a jury does seem to go against the idea of being the sole survivor. It's like having the beaten playoff teams vote on who should win the Super Bowl. But that's the game, and you have to be aware of it.

It also didn't help Russell that the jury was made entirely out of Galu, save for Jaison. Usually the finalists have some allies on the jury.
Yeah, and he made the mistake of not underlining what Jeff said at the beginning -- the final three voted for every single person on the jury. At least Russell was up front about it, but Natalie played the "oh I just stayed under the radar" card when she wrote down the name of every jury member too.
I maintain that if Russell had shown an ounce of remorse, fake or genuine, then he would have won. He could have just said, "I'm sorry, but this is how the game is played." Instead, he said "Suck it, whiners, this is how the game is played!" and alienated an already emotionally volatile jury.

For those of us who've followed the various seasons, Russell should have taken a tip from of Chris Daugherty, winner from Survivor: Vanuatu. Chris also manipulated a bunch of folks and made many false promises/alliances, screwed a bunch of folks over and caused more than one Jury member to cry at Final Tribal. However, instead of just owning his deceptive ways, Chris put on a show of "I'm so sorry!" He won $1,000,000.
Chris was so clearly faking it to the jury. Wasn't even funny how phoney it was. But he told them exactly what they wanted to hear. Twila kept digging her hole deeper and deeper I remember.

Twila basically told a couple of the female jury members to get bent. It was weirdly admirable, in a way.

Yup, Russell thought that the jury would "respect" his game play. He seriously underestimated people's feelings. Gotta give him props for sticking to his guns. I loved at the finale when Jaison was still whining about his socks and Russell pulls out a pair from his pants and drops it in the fire. One of the best moments of the night.

The fact that Russell KNEW Jaison would cry about those socks speaks volumes. Natalie probably didn't even remember Jaison much less his socks.

So, do Survivors get together and have parties? Wild.

Nothing much to add, other than damn. But again, there have been about four times the best player actually won. Russell looked pissed off all night, which is a shame, as the last damn thing he needed was the title of Sole Survivor. He didn't need the money, and in fact made 200 grand off this venture anyway, and I've never heard a 'villain' get cheered like that at a reunion before. All he misses out on is joining the august company of names like Vecepia, Chris, and Danni. Instead, he can be named alongside Richard Hatch, Coach, or Cirie, aka the greats.

Oh yeah and a lot of charity events. That's why Lex took it so personal during All-Stars because he spent all his downtime re-affirming alliances with players from his season and others...including Boston Rob. Hell him and Amber had already been dating for awhile.

The Onion picked Russell playing the second hidden immunity idol as one of its TV moments of the year, and when he plays it and as his invalid votes are read out, there's Erik grinning and pumping his fists. Kinda of hypocritical the way he pounced on him at the final council.

Yeah, like every weekend. They make up holidays and charities just so they have an excuse to get together. If I lived in LA, I would make Bob take me to every one of them.

Erik was a douche to everyone. His blindside was my fave moment of the season along with Russell playing the 2nd idol.
Aside from the final vote it was a great season. I only wish that Natalie and Brett had tried to 'cure' Shambo. And the idea that Mick and Natalie played a more honest game than Russell is pretty laughable; they were more than happy to let him do their dirty work. Russell is definitely my favorite player ever.
