It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia: Season 5

Starts tonight at 10 p.m. Gah! How did I not know this? I won't be home tonight to catch it, but will set the DVR bright and early in the morning to catch the rerun.

To tide me over, I just read Glenn Howerton's 10 favorite episodes. No "the Gang Gives Back" or "Gang Solves the Oil Crisis," but "The Gang Cracks the Liberty Bell" makes it. Hmmm.

Edit: I wish I could edit the subject line. I swear I know how to spell Philadelphia.
Reporting from The Nightman Cometh, they are exclusively playing Rick Astley during intermission. We're being collectively Rick-rolled.

Taken care of.

It's gonna kill me at work tomorrow to stay up late to watch the premier but damn it's gonna be worth it.

"I mean, we can go toe-to-toe on Bird Law..."

What is the covert screening of?
I will show your wife upstairs what a big house is...

I accept your duel. I will put a bullet through your teeth and have it come out your head.

Some show that looks/sounds exactly like 'Frisky Dingo' on Adult Swim.
Wow, I thought this was going to be an hour long, but it's some shitty preview. Great episode, though.
I hope FX doesn't think it needs to do Adult Swim business.

Vic Vinegar.
when does the louis ck show start? that cartoon was lame.

"how do you know those trannies are lawyers?" - i laughed. solid premiere. loved the honey and vinegar bit.
TiVo cut it off. Mother fuckers!
"Do yourself a favor and flush it out."

I can pretty much just delete this slop that came on after, right?
I made it about five minutes into that slop. Great voice cast. If you don't have anything nice to say...
It's gone now. Farewell, potty-mouthed animated show.

Wonderful use of battering ram humor on Sunny.
Loved Dennis and Mac arguing about who was the bottom in their relationship. I wish they would have spent more time on Dee's scam. Funny shit.
It was okay. Loved the battering ram.
Some funny stuff but overall meh.
I liked "I demand that he satisfy me." FX and Tivo really need to work this out, as I missed the end, and always do, usually only get it when there's an episode after.

Ok, so you guys would have loved "The Nightman Cometh: Live". It was a blast. There were Green Men roaming the Tower Theater. The bar had been set up to replicate Paddy's. Seeing the Gang perform an extended version of "The Nightman Cometh" episode was magic. As an added bonus, they showed us a sneak peek at "Very Sunny Christmas" wherein (I don't think this is a spoiler) Charlie pays a visit to Old Saint Nick, as well as an upcoming episode "The Gang Reignites Old Rivalries". Both were amazing. If they do any more dates, I can't recommend it enough to the Sunny fans out there.

So fucking jealous! I am so mad this came to NY this past Wednesday and I didn't know about it. I would have sooooo been there.

I won't say anything more about it until it airs, but--and it may have been the joy of the collective audience experience--it was absolutely hilarious. There's an ongoing gag with DeVito's fashion sense that kills. Can't wait for you guys to see it as it's also eminently quotable.

And I think that was the problem with last nights episode.

We were spoiled by the premier last season with "Wild Card Bitches" and there just wasn't anything memorable like that last night.
I loved Charlie's line about eating stickers on tonight's episode. Something along the lines of, "I eat stickers all the time, dude!"
Charlie's irrational fear of leaving Philly was great.

Sweet Dee telling the hitchhiker he'll end up in gay porn out in Hollywood killed me. Almost as much as her dousing Mac with pee.

Loved every second of this. Having organized numerous road trips, its amazing how accurate this show is on actually getting people in the car and on the road. Whatever time you set to leave, you won't actually get going until several hours later because people have to get food, pee, what-have-you.

And did I miss something? Why did they have an empty trailer (I mean, aside from the joy it gave us throughout the ep with the wicker chair and couch set up)?

The first ep hasn't reaired yet. Is it posted online?

Checked earlier, it's on Hulu.

Way better than the premier episode.

Yeah, I watched the second airing with that same question and it seemed empty until the gamg started filling it with shit from the Italian Market.

I guess they thought that a trailer of some kind was necessary for a cross country trip.
You're trying to apply logic to the gang's decisions? Fairly certain every argument they have goes like -

"we need a trailer"
"why dude?"
"BECAUSE YOU GOTTA HAVE A TRAILER!"

and that's all the deductive reasoning they need.
I absolutely lost it when Mac threw the beer bottle at the dude on the bike.

Also, Mac's bit about ocular security sweeps.
It's the throwaway lines in this show that always make me smile, like Mac with his "oh I'm calling everyone 'Bozo' now, it's great."
And Charlie's little look at Mac like "I don't think that's a good idea". Subtle, but golden

Not looking for a reason. I thought I missed this conversation.

I loved Dennis' smugness when he told Charlie that he had taped the door just high enough so the grill wouldn't slide out, followed by his look when the trailer hit a bump and it flew out of the truck.
That was a beautiful, glorious episode. Dee drunkenly singing "Runaway Train" to the hitchhiker was priceless.

Had to watch this again this morning.

Hitchhiker to Charlie: You're not going to sing to me, are you?
Charlie: I might.

Mac asking Charlie for the tape under the seat: Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!

The way Charlie's lying facing down in the back of the trailer from the smoke inhalation is one of the best moments in the series. That image alone was freaking brilliant.
Also, I've seen the first four episodes, and while I think they're all pretty great, this one was my favorite of the bunch.
Charlie and Dennis passed out in the charred trailer is easily my favorite part. "Poison Glaze" on the wicker chairs.

Mac getting hit in the face with urine, Dee's tape deck, the fact they never got more than 20 minutes from the bar. And Mac hitting the biker with a beer bottle. So much was so good in this episode.

Hey Matt, by chance is there something truly amazing that happens in the fourth episode of the season? I've heard rumors but I don't know how true they are.
Mac: "Jesus Christ Dee, I'm covered in piss!"
Dee: "Well, maybe you shouldn't have had your window down..."
Mac: "Well, maybe you shouldn't be throwing jars of PEE out the window!"
Dee: "Maybe I should, maybe I shouldn't...it's up for debate." (had me rolling)
Mac: "YOU SHOULDN'T!!!"
Danny Devito's exasperated "Jesus Christ" at the end of the episode, due to the volcanic levels of stupidity from The Gang regarding the names of the fifty states, also killed me. Delivered perfectly.
I wonder if Dave & Busters signed off on this episode in advance or not before they sponsored it? For some reason Charlies "we're crab people now" line got to me the most.
The revelation of the night man was hilarious and extremely uncomfortable. There was some great stuff in this episode.. when Dee opened the door and Frank was on the bathroom floor after trying to hang himself again, wow.

Over at slashfilm they have a post up on the "controversy" over Dave and Busters.. I mean really.. cmon.. they do what they gotta do.. I certainly don't give a shit.
Holy shit. I just watched the live version of The Nightman Cometh in the extras section of the season 4 dvd set. What a blast.

Almost peed myself laughing. Not ashamed to admit that.
My Brother was in this episode. He was directly behind Devito during the first Dave and Busters scene with a lady friend. I thought that was cool.
Charlies "Times are TOUGH" in the opening, with Frank still dangling from the noose was AWESOME.
Frank trying to kill himself, Charlie in the cardboard box, creepy unlce Jack. Best episode of the season so far.
