It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia: Season 5 - Page 5

Is it just me or has this season so far not been the best and most consistently absolutely killer/hilarious season of the show? It seems like nearly every episode this year has been a classic.

I think there have been a couple complete stinkers and mediocre episodes, but the great episodes have been absolutely classic. There's really been no in between.
I thought World Series Defense and Mortgage Crisis were weaker ones with a couple of memorable bits (Franking hanging himself, Mac's letter), while every other episode has been fucking golden. Definitely a superior season, miles more consistent than last year (which was worryingly average).

Ok, saw a Very Sunny Christmas. It was worth the 15 bucks for the Mall scene alone and "It's like a Sauna up there"
That mall scene finally crosses the show over into a knowingly tragic mode for Charlie, in a joking way, of course, but his delivery in that scene is really creepy the second time you watch it.
The mall scene's awesome, but Kid Mac's reaction to his Xmas present killed me. Not only ridiculously funny, but did a really great job of casting with him.
I was partial to Dennis' parting words to Frank at the hospital.

Played by Dexter's son in... Dexter.
Should we start a separate thread for the Christmas special? I'd like to discuss it, but don't want to spoil it for people.

Oh, and finally caught up with "The D.E.N.N.I.S. System" last night (stupid Thursday night NFL games!). I think my favorite part was simply the pathetic emo voice Dennis faked during the "Inspire Hope" stage. So freakin' funny.

Also, "My grandmother slept with Susan B. Anthony."

I'm so in love with this season that I want to take it on a date and buy it dinner... nothing expensive. I'm thinking T.G.I.Friday's.

Also,

Dennis' anonymous phone calls had me on the floor. "Welcome to Hell!"

The creepy laugh and the fact he owns a voice changer made the calls that much more awesome.
Dennis' voice changer sounded a lot like Will Arnett
post #213 of 249
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAha
Frank + Pocket Sausages = Win. "Let me rub on your phone..."
I'm talking, full, graphic penetration.

And... beaten to my favorite quote of the night. So, I'll go with Dennis' plot synopsis for Crime Stinks: The Scent of Penetration:
Quote:
Then he smells crime again, he's out busting heads. Then he's back to the lab for some more full penetration. Smells crime, back to the lab, full penetration. Crime, penetration, crime, full penetration, crime, penetration -- And this goes on and on and back and forth for 90 or so minutes until the movie just sort of ends.
For what it's worth, the show is absolutely priceless anytime it allows Mac and Charlie to have a storyline together. The sheer enthusiasm of their idiocy is awesome sauce.

Oh, and next week's season finale ("The Gang Reignites Old Rivalries") is the one I saw sneak previewed. It may be my favorite of the season.
Mac and Charlie are my favourites, so pairing them always works for me.

And next week is the season finale? Fuck, this goes by too fast.
Some funny stuff. But overall it really just didn't do anything for me. And damn this season went quick. I can't believe it's the Finale already.
For some reason my favorite part is how disgusted Dennis (and even Frank! FRANK IS DISGUSTED) is by how sloppy Mac and Charlie's pitch papers are.
Awesome ep. Loved Charlie thinking that the twist in The Sixth Sense is that the guy in the toupee was Bruce Willis the whole time.
For added hilarity, carefully observe Mac's hand gestures when Charlie is explaining to Dennis and Frank that audiences might have hard time watching Dolph Lundgren's "naked penis fully penetrating some young girl on screen".

Also, I'm looking forward to tonight's "Flipadelphia".
I just downloaded the whole episode to see what you meant, then realised I noticed it at the time.

Still, got to see Dennis' pitch fucking perfect "...until the movie just sorta ends".
Flip...Flip...Flipadelphia.

Holy Crap that was an awesome episode.

Mac and Charlie's hug at the frat house was awesome.
"Yeah but then you read all that Gordon Wood"

Charlie butchering Good Will Hunting = brilliant.
The casualness of vandalizing the guys house and Charlie's hiding place of the poison...also awesome.
Can't believe there's not more quoting of this episode.

I'm glad you guys dug it, though.

Frank's skinny jeans had me on the floor.
It was good. Frank snorting the stuff I can't spell and cutting the shower curtain were highlights. As was the hug.
Dennis coming into the room high off the stuff with those wide eyes as Frank was doing the other Bar owners taxes was pretty great.

ETA...this maybe my second favorite episode next to The D.E.N.N.I.S System.

"I've created a Masterpiece..."

"Paddy's
Have Respect
Idiots.
I Am
Legend."
After a pretty disappointing season this episode restored my confidence in the show. Too many good moments to mention. "You just drank a cup of poison!"
The way Sweet Dee looks at the guys as she flips the last of the ten cups...Priceless.

ETA: "This guy, this guy."
Dee: "I have been practicing, I don't know what happened!"
Dennis: "You know it's her Bison-sized fingers!"
Dee: "I don't have Bison fingers!"
Frank: "Yes you do, your mother had to have a C-section because of those hands."

Holy Shit I forgot about Bison Fingers. Hilarious.

The Christmas Special is two huge thumbs up. Really great stuff.
I ignored the advice of friends and co-workers for a few years and just started watching this show recently...as in last week. Since then, Ive purchased all the seasons and have completed almost all of them. I hope God punishes me in some way for not watching this sooner.

"Look how loose his jeans are!"
*Frat guys tase Frank*

&

Frank doing Art's taxes to get him audited made me wet my pants.

ETA It is also now my dream to be a cast members on this show. I cant even begin to imagine how much fun these guys must have.
A very, very serious question I've been wrestling with for quite some time:

Is it funnier when Sweet Dee refers to the Gang as "boners" or when Mac refers to them as "bitches"?

I simply don't know.

Since bitches is in my daily repertoire, I go with boners.

i have yet to see the Christmas special. I need to rectify that stat!

You absolutely do. It's uneven, but, when it's up, it's insanely funny.

you realize thats a total contradiction, right?
Another site, I think it was the AV Club, also said something about this being the most consistent season. I'm kind of confused by these statements. Actually, I guess I can see how it's been fairly consistent, but I don't really care about that much since it's been consistently middle of the road. In my eyes it's the weakest season of the show.

I don't find this season particularly weak, but the highs have not reached the highs of previous seasons.

At the same time, it never reached the lows of other seasons. Lord knows I loved not having to sit through another "The Gang Cracks the Liberty Bell". Oddly, Howerton ranks that episode as one of his top 10.
This season didn't seem to have any clunkers. We'll see for sure when the DVD drops, but this could be the first season where there is no episode I never want to see again.
For me, th lows of previous seasons aren't that low anyway. There is no episode of this show I outright hate and never want to see again. There's always something to enjoy. So I'd rather have lows like that accompanied by the amazing highs the show can reach than a whole season that's just in the middle.

But don't get me wrong, this is all relative. I enjoyed this season a lot. This is just why I didn't like it quite as much as the last four.

So, we're doing a little gift exchange at my office today (very little, given the economy) and a couple of my staff teamed up to give me this t-shirt (as well as the Gremlins blu-ray):

Yeah, they're pretty awesome.
That shirt is a winner. Congrats to your coworkers.

Late to the party, but damn was the Christmas special hilarious. I had to immediately replay it. Naked Frank, charlie's mom getting trained by Santa's, Mac squealing and karate kicking over a Cabbage Patch doll, young Charlie huffing glue, the mall scene... just brilliant.
