Ok, feel free to laugh, point fingers, etc.

I've never put together a stand-alone receiver with separate speakers before, and despite the hours of reading I've been trying to do, I just can't find any good, clearly spoken resources to help me out.

I've been looking at the Yamaha RX-V665 receiver (I have a fairly limited budget for my audio set up), and can't seem to work out what some good, slightly economic speakers/sub would be to pair with it.

I chose that receiver because of it's price, coupled with my need to have HDMI upconverting as well as handling all those fancy, new fangled HD audio modes (TrueHD, DTS HD, etc.).

I've heard good things about Yamaha products, both in person and through word of mouth.

I just can't seem to wrap my head around the whole Ohms/Wattage thing. I (obviously) don't want to buy something and have it a) sound like shit, or b) blow up/get damaged.

Help? Please?

Here's the main specs for the receiver in question:

Channels7
RMS Output Power (20Hz - 20kHz)
RMS Output Power (1kHz)90W x 7
Total Power (20Hz - 20kHz)630W (1kHz)

The receiver is about $500, and I don't want to spend much more than that for my speakers. Ditto that for the sub.

ETA: Also, in re: to the whole upconverting thing... once I actually go "HD" (i.e. get a PS3), that will be the ONLY DVD player I have. From what I'm reading, the upconverting thing applies mainly to analog signals? If it's coming through an HDMI cable from the PS3, do I even need upconverting my old DVDs? Or will that sort itself out through the PS3 and HDMI signal?
