Venture Brothers Season 4 - Page 2

I just watched it again, and liked it even more. Those less than happy might want to give it a second shot.

Great opener, plus, Brendon Small is back in the cast. He was there for season 2, but disappeared in season 3. The surgeon is basically junior from "Home Movies".

Next week has a pretty cool guest star.

I love how the first season was essentially the status quo, and every season since then has been a struggle to get back to that status-quo. The second season was all about The Monarch trying to get back with Dr. Girlfriend, the third season was all about The Monarch trying to get back to arching Dr. Venture, and now this season looks like it's all about getting Brock back as their bodyguard.

This show is amazing. I can't think of a single time where they've dropped the ball in any significant way. I don't think I could say that about any other show on TV, animated or not.. save maybe The Wire.

I wonder if any decisions have been made regarding future seasons. Are they calling it quits after this one?

I love Hitler and Hitler loves me!
I think they've got one more season in them, then go out on a high note with a fantastic action packed balls to the wall insane MOVIE.

Speaking of a movie, I realized that both Urbaniak and Warburton could pull off playing their characters in a live action setting. Too bad that won't happen.

This is why we should have rooted for the Aqua Teen movie at the box office, despite quality. I'm assuming Adult Swim can barely afford to pay for the series, let alone a movie. Though I suppose an STV flick could be in the mix...
Just give me two hours of an epic Venture Brothers adventure (something to top their last two finales, which would be quite a feat) incorporating The Order of the Triad, J.J., The Monarch, Phantom Limb, Molotov, Dr. Quaymn, Myra Brandish, etc... and I'll be happy as a clam. Much happier, actually.

I think there's actually a second Aqua Teen movie in the works.

It's extremely doubtful that a Venture Bros. movie in any capacity will ever get made.
Wow, that was kind of creepy.

But it did have a character named Ghost Robot so I guess its a win.
I wonder if they wrote this episode after they found out they could get Kevin Conroy. Hearing the voice I knew and loved as calm, cool collected Batman say those things was just magical.
Nothing wrong with the quality of this ep but if there's one thing a sitcom with a regular pedophile character doesn't need more of, it's pedophiles.
It walked a fine line, the jokes were more misdirection than the obvious ones with Sgt. Hatred.
Creepy pedo jokes were well worth it for The Monarch's monologue while wearing the sidekick outfit and making fuckhole gestures all over his body.
A very small bit but my favorite part was when Captain Sunshine was on the video call with his old team and when the black guy see's Hank he says "really captain...another one"

So small...yet so funny.
The joke about Batman had he wetting my pants
post #69 of 384
This show is so goddamn good.

The only character I'm just not wild about is Hatred. I miss Brock.
good episode. Loved getting back to the Monarch. Also loved Dr. Girlfriend's half-sun burn. Little things like that are just awesome.
21 trying to be all badass with the arm spikes...then just paying the cabbie was great.

The Superman: The Movie reference with Captain Sunshine just tossing the Monarch into the prison yard was awesome as well. "Apparently he has never heard of due process"
Now this was a weak episode. Lots of one-note jokes about man/boy love that we've been getting since season two (Dean almost marrying Underbheit, and then Sgt. Hatred last time). The way the show twists your expectations has almost become...predictable. There was no way that the Alfred-stand in handing him a case of ass glide was going to be used for butt-sex, so I just sat there waiting for the reason it was introduced. Once it happened, I just kind of shrugged.

The best joke was the Newsteam shit, but even that felt slightly recycled from the Anchorman school of humor. An OK episode, but not up to the shows standards.

If you liked this more then last weeks debut, I question your taste. Period.

I thought the same thing until they kept cranking up the creepy jokes about man/boy sex; I was somewhat relieved when that costume bit came up.

This episode was just as funny as last week's. Maybe moreso (Kevin Conroy makes the difference).

And the newsteam bit was greatness. I wonder if they're all aware of who they work with?
In the end, I have to agree that last week was better, but this one was in no way shitty. It's just that last week was greatness. Kevin Conroy alone makes this funny. So does the butler's hair.
Funnier episode than the premiere, but the pedophile/Boy Wonder stuff goes nowhere and it's such a rehash of Hatred. This show doesn't usually repeat itself. The newsteam stuff and Ghost Robot were amazing.
SGT Hatred is a flat tire. They need to get rid of him. Nevertheless, this episode was better than the last one.
Hatred is just there to make us miss Brock. It works.

Wasn't the whole news team (I keep reading the way you guys type it as "new steam") the superhero team?
Yeah, they were.

Really liked the episode, but I wish they hadn't gotten back to the Monarch so soon in the season. I'd kind of like them to leave him be for a while.

Also fuck there should be a Ghost Robot spinoff.
I could go for a Barbie-Que spinoff.

I liked how her newscaster last name was Qantas.

The newsteam/superteam were definitely one of my favorite parts (the fact that I just watched WAKE UP, RON BURGUNDY this afternoon may have had something to do with this). The fact that Capt. Sunshine takes extra special care to buckle up his ward was funny to me as a reference to the old Batman show, where they often had a specific shot of them buckling up, but maybe it's a hint of what happened to a previous ward?

Anyway, pretty fun ep. Conroy must have had a great time.

Loved the VO at the end that explained the deus ex machina, SuperFriends-style.

A deformed Dean-clone in the attic and a whole civilization of creepy 80's music video brainwashed freaks in their basement.

Welcome to the Venture Compound.

Did anyone else expect that black guy to just rush in and get killed by the Dean clone?
Venture does Shining homage the best. Every season there's three or so episodes where a bunch of shit happens at the compound and it's generally one of the weaker eps. This was probably the best of them, and I kind of marvel at the complexity of the story arcs in a 22 minute episode.
I think I always knew somewhere deep inside that my love of Yes, King Crimson, and Pink Floyd eventually led me to science.
"He's in a Floyd hole!"

Loved this one. The creepy Dean clone, the Shining homage, and just the way Dean and Hank are taking after their parents in different ways. Nice stuff.
last night's didn't do it for me. It wasn't bad though, I think I'm just tired of all the clone stuff.
"Hank stop staring, just because he's black doesn't mean he has the Shining"

Great episode. Starting to like Hatred as the bodyguard.

And am I the only one starting to think Dermott is Rusty's son and not Brocks.
Not my favorite episode, but still an entertaining one. Oddly enough, I find the title characters (Dean and Hank) are the least interesting on the show. If an episode is going to focus on them, I'd prefer at least a small dose of Brock, The Monarch or Orpheus to spice things up a bit.
I like Dean and Hank now that they're actually growing up and becoming characters. I think that's an interesting direction for the show to go in.
Dean's little mustache was adorable.
I liked the Hank stuff in the episode, but overall it was a bit of a trifle. The subplot with the UPS guy and the cops just felt kind of like a waste of time.
....this whole thread is starting to sound like a lot of impending backlash. Have expectations been raised too high? It seems there's a building division of people that want jokes and people that want more plot. I'm really enjoying myself personally, and a second viewing of each episode has proven even more enjoyable.
I thought the pacing in this episode was among the best the show's ever done.
Oh, I meant to mention this-- we got a new VBs billboard over the Zesto on Ponce a couple of weeks ago (it's always some [as] show).

Huge Hank & Dean faces on each side, the title at the top, and a note about Season 4 starting, then, at the bottom, "Let the shark-jumping begin!"
On the backlash; I think we got a little bit of that last season. People made the argument that the show had peaked in season 2. I don't think that's really fair. The show changes and matures each season, which is more than you can say about any comedy series let alone an animated series. Some of these changes have been at the benefit of more comedic moments to focus on character. Personally, that delights me to no end...but I can understand why it turns off others. I think the show as is does a brilliant job of blending the surreal pop-culture comedy with the strong character work. I feel the same way about the season opener. Last week, I thought we got more of the former less of the later, which is why that episode didn't click for me
post #97 of 384
I was lukewarm on the premiere. But I've loved the episodes since. The show just keeps getting better.
Forum posts always tend towards the bitchy. I've been having a blast, I just don't have many deeper thoughts to share each week. But VB is easily my most anticipated show every week.

I will say that, "Not every black man has the Shining" followed by the him actually having the Shining was great.

And the Hunchback of Notre Dean finally finding his father's love and acceptance immediately before exploding was brutally hilarious.

"Who was that?!?"
I'm not calling anyone bitchy, because I genuinely like most of the people in this thread, but I feel the storm a'brewin'.
The show is still as good as ever, IMHO. Sure, I didn't think last weeks show was their best, but I say that with the opinion that the worst VB episode is still better than 99% of anything else on TV.

For me, a lot of it is the great characters. They do such a tremendous job with so many of the characters that you develop real attachments, so they are sorely missed when absent for a length of time. Monarch, Orpheus and Brock never fail to get me as excited as a little schoolgirl, so I'll always be disappointed in episodes without them.
