HIMYM season 5 - Page 4

For the entire episode I wondering why TED is suing the creators of the film for massive dollars...

also the episode started without any sound, so I missed the first couple of jokes. DAMN CBS.
Presume you mean to ask why he wasn't suing? He was ashamed and hoping it would all just go away. That was the point of the episode-- that he didn't want to reveal the connection, and thus reveal his "LEFT AT ALTAR" baggage.

Anybody have good screencaps of the baggage in the final shot? I spotted "SLEPT WITH BARNEY" and "MOM STILL DOES LAUNDRY".

First joke was: Girl with Ted answers her cel. "It's... my ex. Sorry, we're trying to remain friends. Hi pumpkin! Did you get our tickets to Maui?"

I saw both of those and STILL THINKS HIS SKA BAND IS GOING TO TAKE OFF.

Well they probably had that "any resemblence to anyone living or dead ..." disclaimer. Also I got a feeling that we aren't done with this plotline quite yet.

It funny the thing that bothered me most was that I was suppose to believe that some silly romatic comedy is going to beat most effect films in gross earnings (5th best box office ever?)

That and there really wasn't any payoff for the "Marshal is nice" plotline.

Alyson Hannigan's doppelgangers were spectacular tonight.

Also, "Not looking for gray areas here, Monty."

Agreed. Have they always been so bountiful?

"This just in ... is what Marshall Erickson is about to say to his wife as he attempts to impregnate her" made me giggle

Man has this season been a disaster. Such little focus most of the time (at least it seemed to me), and the finale was weak as hell.

I hate to say it but this season has kinda sucked. Some funny stuff, but overall a stinker of a season.

Alysson does indeed have big boobs.

Don't know what you guys didn't like. Examples?

I mean, this year we got doppelgangers, "But Um", Drunk or Kid, the Suit Song, the Superdate Song, the Cat Funeral Song, Jennifer Lopez not ruining anything, amazing post-pregnancy breasts, banana on a string, "I hate Barney Stinson! (Me too!)", advanced blown-out brains pantomime, Pharma girls, Sleepy Tombstone Maze, the Window, free buffalo wings, and TANTRUM!

6 posts in and you're already saying poor things. The season was pretty ok compared to all the others. Not spectacular, but it's still the best sitcom on TV.

EDIT: And the finale, like the season, moved things forward.

Ha! Just reading that had me cracking up, it's like the sentence version of a clip show.

I had my fingers crossed that Ted and Robin would get back together in the finale even though I knew something would stop them. I think the second season when they were a couple was the best. Some characters on a show lose chemistry together when they get into a relationship, like Robin and Barney did. But it worked when Robin and Ted were together.

They never should have ruled it out when Ted told his kids she was Aunt Robin. It took away the will-they or won't they dynamic forever.

I don't know how you couldn't love that season. It had great character moments balanced nicely with some seriously funny shit.

This kind of proves that you can't please everyone all the time.

People holler and scream about the 'will they/won't they' stuff on Chuck and Community, without realising that sometimes that kind of tension 'works'. I think Ted and Robin were a fantastic couple to structure the season around and I don't think Marshall and Lily have ever been strong enough a couple to adequately provide a bedrock for the show.

Loved this season, not an episode I can think of that wasn't terrible.

That was terrific.

Sometimes that dynamic can go overboard like Ross and Rachel in Friends, but if not overused it is great.

I just think that the finale's storyline about Robin finally choosing love over career would have been the perfect point for Ted and Robin to have another go at it.

There was more heat in that "almost kiss" than in all their other relationships since their breakup combined. Maybe the writers don't want them together, but the actors have perfect chemistry with each other.

Apparently, as a new user I am only allowed to say positive things or nothing at all. When someone has a contrary opinion, do the users here usually rush to the profile to see how "experienced" the poster is?

Anyway - I admit this season has had some truly funny moments. Unfortunately, I feel like the story did not advance much. (A leg running into a bedroom, and tacking on the decision to have kids at the end is not enough for me.) Nor was there much focus on Ted. Personally, I like Ted, and since he is supposed to be the main character it would be nice to see him a little more.

It just felt like a filler season. And in my opinion, so did season 4. As a viewer, it seems like they are spinning their wheels right now and I want better story progression. Example: The Robin and Barney thing was a desperate and lame attempt to shake things up, and took up way too much time.

Additionally, I found far too many episodes this season to be extremely slapstick. That's not the show I watched the first three seasons. The writing was sharper and it was much less silly. Marshall is practically a cartoon character anymore. Regardless, I am losing interest quickly, so I hope they can revive my desire to keep watching next season. This one didn't do it for me, so going out with a whimper didn't help. Just my worthless two cents.
Of course they're spinning their wheels. As soon as Ted meets the kids mother the show is pretty much done.
If they wanted to, the writers could take advantage of the show's nonlinear structure to show us who the mother is and still hold back on how she met Ted.

specifically I can look back at most posts this seasons and say that episodes
Robin 101
Rough Patch
Last Cigarette Ever
Zoo or False (weird)
Robots vs Wreslers

were not very funny. That's 5 episodes of suckin out of a 24 episode season.

Now to be fair, there were some very funny episodes. But you can't say its the funniest sitcom on Tv anymore because Community takes that crown easily.
The beauty of it is, I can look back and say that they were very funny.

Okay, you thought 'Zoo or False' was weird-- what didn't you like about the others?
I was also a bit disappointed this season. Yes the episodes were generally funny, but the one thing I like about this show that different is that it typically has a seasonal arc.

It seemed missing this year, to be fair its probably the writers taking a break before the big "how Ted actually meets the mother season".

I agree Robots vs Wreslers wasn't that great, but um it did have the line,"Is that all you got: bitch," spoken in robot voice. I thought the rest of your examples were really funny. I really liked Lilly's smoker voice. She can call me doll face anytime. Sadly, she never will.
