I was so hoping internet superstar Danny Choo was going to be dancing in the street.

Oh well...

This was a LOT better than last week's episode. Barney being Barney is so much better than relationship Barney.
Best episode of the season by far, even though you could call most of the jokes from a mile away, NPH still makes them work.

I hope the introduction of the board game commercial shows that Lilly's dad finally got his one big hit.

also: one of the board games in the background was entitled "Landline Lunge."

I had to rewind and watch the final slap in slo-mo. On one hand, it ruins the fun a little, because you can clearly see Marshall miss Barney by a country mile, on the other hand, it's worth it to watch both of their reactions in slow motion, particularly how hard Jason Segal was throwing his body into that slap, to the point where his hair was flying around his face. I'm so glad they gave him the slap instead of Ted or Robin.

So was Chris Elliot actually reprising his role from Get a Life? Crossover!

My favorite was "Sleepy Tombstone Maze."

"The Window".

That was no sitcom-- that was my life.

while every guy can relate to "the window" man, that episode sucked hard.

Worst of the year?
It wasn't the funniest, but it was still funny by moments, and not bad at all story-wise. Far from sucking.
That episode was great.
Don't know what you didn't get, neaux. I liked everything about this one, romantic trauma aside. I hope we see more of Ted's class-as-therapy-group. And the coda was sweet.

Don't get me wrong, I liked Ted's story last night.

That being said, the Barney overalls bit was not funny and Marshall's side story was completely unnecessary.

So For a comedy, there wasn't much to laugh at.

I only laughed once. Ted says running down the street: I hate Barney Stinsen and someone else yells out.."So Do I! or something to that effect. Now THAT was funny. The rest of the episode. Not so much.
Yeah, the Girl Next Door + Boy Next Door and how that worked out was actually pretty touching.

I also liked how Ted referred to it as the second greatest love story he's ever heard.
Is it ominous that Old Lily didn't make the trip back in time with Old Marshall? Maybe she had business elsewhere...

Yet another example of this show setting stuff up sometimes seasons in advance...

as much as I'd like this to apply, too... I wouldn't overanalyze it haha

Thing is, HIMYM works (for me at least) even when it's not funny. The characters, dialogue, great continuity, call-backs, etc. make for an entertaining twenty minutes even during a comedically dry episode (which I'm not conceding this was).
I'm just going to add, the girl next door type perfectly cast.

I'd have to rewatch some of the older seasons, but I swear there was an episode of Marshall as an old man in the future and it had mentioned he'd outlive lily.

or I'm totally off-base.

but yea I dug the episode.

Ted running down the street yelling I hate barney and getting the "so do I" reply off the street was great.

"You've got ten minutes before the window closes"

And yeah, 2nd greatest love story...hmmmm wonder what the first is...

I believe your thinking of the episode where Lily write a will that Marshall opens. At the end she writes another one and we see about 40 years later old Marshall opens the will. The will states something like "I knew you couldn't wait" and lo and behold Lily was still alive.
There's also the ep from this season where Marshall can't fantasize about other women unless he first imagines that Lily is dead.
There is one where they're at their college reunion (forget the year) and eating some sandwiches and he goes "Wait... where's my wife??"

That's one of my favorite gags they've done.

The hell? New episode is airing at 1:30am tonight after Ferguson, at least in my market.

ETA: Worth staying up for.

Unreliable narrator!

Time-traveling Marshall!

Boobage!

Fierstein!

I laughed more this week. Although the idea of all of them smoking was a little gross.

Seems like Time-traveling Marshall might be appearing more often than we think.

Indeed.

ETA: Holy crap. I just IMDBd her. I worked on a show with her.
I thought it was Isla Fisher at first...

The lazy slob co-anchor's coffee cup bursting into flame when Robin tossed her cigarette in it was an outstanding sight gag.
It'll be interesting to see how his character turns around.

Yep I don't remember this at all... I definitely fell asleep during this ep.

well I thought the whole episode was going to be a musical. Guess I was a little disappointed. Thought I liked the Ted stuff again as we get a little closer to meeting Mom.

The Suit song was indeed fun.

Best part of the episode was Robin behind the bar.
The Ted stuff was a bit of a cocktease. But I'm glad it wasn't Bilson since I kind of can't stand her.

Always good to see NPH singing and dancing.
That whole Pulp Fiction scene with Barney and the suit in the bathroom almost made me wet my pants.
Great ep and I do love how we're finally getting closer to the mother at last. Most of this season has really been spinning it's wheels and focused so much on the supporting cast, that it kind of forgot the point.

But hey, here's hoping the quality sticks thru the rest of the season.

The tragic music that played during the drinking game and subsequent hangover is a famous piece of music that I can't recall, little help?

Platoon.
Specifically Adagio for Strings by Samuel Barber.
The Taken reference SLAYED me. Holy shit.

Great episode.
I loved Marshall's reaction to the kiss. I know it was sooooo obvious, but I also had a good chuckle over Lilly nodding and smiling while taking off her scarf and her earrings. And now I have a hankering to play ski-ball.

This:

"Is this a trap? Are you a Packers fan? My wife knows I'm here. She doesn't have money, but what she does have is a very special set of skills."

Thank you, tip of my damn tongue.

I enjoyed Lilly's casual beat-down prep immensely.
Excellent use of the music from Major League during the "meeting at the mound" sequence.
Great episode last week, the highlight was definitely Ted's visit to the mound. Not gonna lie I stood up and applauded when Barney closed the final night.
I lost it when Nance kicked the chair over.
"Respect!"

Anyone else put off by the subplot with the Asian student? I guess it's in character for Ted to see the situation only as an embarrassment to himself (and not because he humiliated her but because she dropped his class), but having the whole gang riff on the poor girl's name came across as cruel.

Maybe the writers intended it to be an uncomfortable, unresolvable moment, but best to leave that stuff to Larry David.

I gotta agree. But this show is pretty much like Seinfield. If you take a close look at each character, they are all assholes.
I did like:

"Yeah, some day I'm totally going to sit my kids down and tell them the story about the time Uncle Barney slept with seven women in one week."

FLASHFORWARD

"Am I a bad dad?"
