Doctor Voodoo!

An Ongoing (!) series.
I think I actually read the comic he first appeared in. I remember the Gene Colan art but not much else. But now he's back I guess!

I have a friend who has always been a big Brother Voodoo fan and he's absolutely giddy over this.

I pretty much don't know anything about this character.

So what happened to Dr. Strange, is he a civilian now?
I missed out on this arc, but Wikipedia reports that Strange had his hands broken in World War Hulk, resorted to dark magic to deal with a home invasion instigated by Dormammu, then decided to chill out for a while and detox to fight off an addiction to dark magic.

Supposedly Strange considered handing the mantle of Sorceror Supreme to one of a handful of other Marvel magic users. The Eye of Agamotto cast the deciding vote in favor of Voodoo.

Hopefully this picks up where that story leaves off. Voodoo hasn't made many appearances over the years, but those few appearances have always been within the context of the Doctor Strange mythos. I was a huge fan of the 90's incarnation of Strange Tales and the Doctor's subsequent solo series.

Being Wiccan, Magik, the Scarlet Witch and Dr. Doom. Scarlet Witch doesn't make sense, 'cause she's not really a magician, she just manipulates probability. Now Dr. Doom, THAT would have been interesting.

Scarlet Witch studied briefly under Strange in the 80's. Whether her hexes were more mutation or magical depended on who had retconned her last.

Dr. Doom would have been interesting ... kind of a missed opportunity. However, it would have made him "too powerful" I guess, or maybe they wanted to go with a more unexpected surprise.

Dormammu now resorts to hiring some street thugs to break into Strange's townhouse? And this traumatic event drives the master of sorcery to shoot up dark magic?
Actually Bob, that's a typo. It was a home invasion by Don Mammu. You know, from Jersey.
And he has dreadlocks. Which makes him the Dreaded Don Mammu.
Actually though, thinking about it, it's sort of genius. It's like all these years, Dormammu has tried to defeat Strange with sorcery and power, and finally, after decades of defeat after defeat, he just decides "Fuck it, you two go beat the shit out of him."

It's like the whole Captain America assassination. Hundreds of guys in The Raft or The Vault or whatever saw that shit on TV and immediately thought "OH FUCK! A GUN! Why didn't I think of that!?"
But doesn't his manservant Wong know kung-fu or something? He's Asian, you know.
He tried to shout a warning, but Dr. Strange didn't know what "LUN! BURGRARS!" meant.

It was a magic gun, Brad.
And it didn't kill him, it froze him!
IN TIME!

Oh.

Right.

Say didn't that same thing happen with Batm-THE REST OF THIS POST HAS BEEN REMOVED BY DISNEY/MARVEL, HAVE A MAGICAL DAY, TRUE BELIEVERS

Did Brother Voodoo complete his doctorate prior to becoming Sorceror Supreme or does that title automatically bestow an honorary degree upon the individual bearing it?
He's a psychologist. (Get it? Head shrinker? Fuckin' voodoo magic? It's 70's Marvel's idea of being cute.) But it would be awesome if the title was honorary, like Bill Cosby's Doctorate.
If it had passed to Doctor Doom, would he have then been Doctor Doctor Doom?
Fun villain trivia: Doom was expelled from Empire State University.

Doom's Doctorate: Honorary, otherwise likely from an unaccredited online university in Latveria.

Sorceror Supreme isn't a doctorate. Dr. Strange actually was a doctor before becoming Sorceror Supreme.

Dr. Doom, on the other hand, probably transferred to Evil Medical School.

He carries around a mystical staff with a bunch of shrunken heads attached to it. This is something I can get behind.

"The Gunner of God"??
That had me puzzled as well.

And damn, that was a short preview ...
It's a reference to Agau, one of the loa in Voodoo. It is said that a person mounted (no snickering) by Agau will keep repeating, "It is I who am the gunner of god; when I roar the earth trembles."

For shame people, for shame.
