I don't mean safe because it's not edgy, I mean safe because you know exactly what to expect every week. Baldwin's going to say something chauvinistic, Morgan's going to be dumb and wacky, Fey's going to be bad in relationships and Maroney's going to be dumb and annoying. Nothing changes, ever, and when you figure out the formula it's hard not to get tired of it.

Count me among those who thing Season 3 of 30 Rock was a major drop in quality. Too many pointless, unfunny guest stars and lame plots. The "Kidney Now!" season finale was the worst of all of them.

Since we're all comparing it to The Office, I'll say that I thought Season 5 was probably the best comedy to be found on television at the time (although I have not seen Season 3 and 4, so I can't compare it to earlier seasons of The Office).

Sounds like you're accusing it of being a sitcom. Which it is, and a damn good one. It's only competition for "best on tv" is Sunny, imo. And I could list off what each character's going to do each week there too, but I don't care because it's funny anyway.
